I would love to join in but I've now got a 4hr stint on checkout and shops closed when I finish

Mrsttcno1 · 24/12/2024 14:16

Good luck! I had a last minute parcel to pick up this morning and there’s a M&S in the retail park, the queue to get in was literally wrapped half way around the car park! We were chatting to people in the queue who had already been waiting 45 mins and were nowhere near the front, if there’s anything left in that one by 6pm I’ll be amazed😂

But dh just texted, he's nabbed a goose for £12 (for next Sunday so I'll freeze)

How much originally?

Avoid forming part of a rampaging mob desperate to get cheap food by simply not stuffing yourself with excessive amounts over Christmas.

Overthebow · 24/12/2024 14:18

Already been to M&S today, so much reduced 50% or more including loads of smoked salmon and seafood. I’ve bought loads of buffet food for Christmas tea and Boxing Day tea.

Toastandjam16 · 24/12/2024 14:19

Loads of meat and seafood discounted in mine. Got a ripe avocado for 23p In Aldi though so that's my Christmas Eve bargain 😁

BeTwinklyKhakiPanda · 24/12/2024 14:20

Not quite the same, but was very pleased to see the jeans I had in my basket on the m&s app reduced from £65 to £38, glad i didn't buy them yesterday

There never is.

People give up by about midday Christmas eve.

I do my shopping early so I have very very little to get (and it tends to be bonus rather than necessary).

But I love the Christmas eve late supermarket run.

P00hsticks · 24/12/2024 14:21

Round here I think some of the supermarkets are signed up to the local community fridge and other food charities / soup kitchens and the like to offload items.
So although I saw some reductions in our local LIDL earlier, I'm not sure there will be much more.

That made me think of Viz magazine ‘top tips’ (in a good way)

Peachy2005 · 24/12/2024 14:23

I got good bargains in M&S last night at 7.40pm (closing at 10pm). Sprout & leek gratin £10 was £2, Berry panacotta dessert was £16 down to £4, individual apple crumble 2-packs £3.20ish down to £1.20 or so. Could have got loads more as they had just started reducing stuff dated 25th. Off-duty staff were filling their trolleys so I was sneaking a peek at what they had. Presumably this evening they’ll be reducing stuff dated 26th (and maybe 27th?) as they are closed till 27th. Not sure I have enough freezer space to go back in later, will see if DS is bored enough to come as he was enjoying finding the bargains 😂

Aworldofmyown · 24/12/2024 14:24

If you do, be nice to the staff. Last christmas eve the customers at my store were vile.

Stepfordian · 24/12/2024 14:26

I’ve already been and filled my freezer with yellow sticker items! I’m going to Waitrose before it shuts to see if I can get any bargains there too!

There was a brilliant Reddit post a while ago about a lad who got a Christmas temp job at M&S. All the staff told him to hang on until closing on Xmas Eve and he would pick up real bargains. He waited and then ran round the store after closing and got the entire family Christmas dinner for about 5 quid.

It's on Twitter too. Amazing storytelling. Well worth a read.

Ooh, lucky you. Our goose was 4 times that Blush

Peachy2005 · 24/12/2024 14:27

There were some incredibly expensive lobster dishes for £45, wonder what they will be reduced to… We did pay full price for our starters but they were the last on shelf and DH had specially requested them 😊

KingscoteStaff · 24/12/2024 14:29

9 foot tree from the stall at Brockwell park for £20!

biscuitsandbooks · 24/12/2024 14:30

I can't believe you can all be arsed, frankly. I won't be leaving the sofa, let alone the house!

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 24/12/2024 14:32

This used to be me and my dad's christmas thing. So as a memory to him I'm do a variation of it by buying 2 toogoodtogo bags in different places.

Bigboysmademedoit · 24/12/2024 14:34

DC working today in M&S - told the discounts would go on at 12!!’ You may be too late.

AlexisP90 · 24/12/2024 14:35

Just been in morrisons for nappies and toilet roll (because literally remembered normal life exists and we need them 🙃)

Was dead. Little cheese boards were 1.50. I actually got the same one last week for £5!

I would probably start sooner than 6pm. Last time I went that late on Xmas eve it was moldy bread and grumpy staff waiting to get home.

Oioisavaloy27 · 24/12/2024 14:36

There will be nothing left at that time.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 24/12/2024 14:36

I went to Waitrose at about 2pm to pick up some stuff for our Boxing Day "graze". Loads of stuff with yellow labels, especially good as it was stuff I actually wanted. Hurrah!

Ah. Perhaps it was Twitter where I read it.

AInightingale · 24/12/2024 14:37

Tescos had prepacked salad items and bread/cakes etc with very big discounts when I was in at lunchtime. But staff also busy stripping the shelves of anything non perishable that was remotely Christmassy. Bad news for all those men shoppers leaving everything to the last minute this afternoon.
