AIBU - bin lorry nightmare

Fedupwithteenagers24 · 23/12/2024 08:21

Usually our bins are collected in the afternoon, today they turned up at 7am to collect! We hadn't put them out yet and it was too late to catch them.
Husband is beside himself, had not stopped going in about it. He is considering calling council to complain. It is now being referred to as the great bin disaster of xmas 2024.

I think I may have to ltb - AIBU?

Bins should be out by 7am as that is when collections can start. He needs to get a grip. It is a pain, one of our collections started coming really early after being much later. We sucked up a missed collection. Obviously not ideal before Christmas, but you would not BU to ltb.

WillowTit · 23/12/2024 08:23

you can email the council that you havent had a collection, a missed bin
afternoon collection sounds odd

mnahmnah · 23/12/2024 08:23

Well, they do go rogue on timings sometimes. Especially around Christmas, bank holidays etc when days are out of sync. We are advised to put them out the night before. HOWEVER, ours is usually lunchtime too, so I would never expect them to turn up that early either! Do you have a tip handy to take the rubbish to?

PianoPiarno · 23/12/2024 08:23

Let him huff and puff and crack on, I'm sure he'll get over it soon. And if not, as you say, it will become a scintillating story he can tell for Christmases to come!

Sirzy · 23/12/2024 08:24

Complaining will be pointless. They will have a “have your bins out by x time” rule. Ours are nearly always picked up later in the day but they have to be out by 7am.

cant change what has happened! Just do a few tip runs.

YoNoLoSe · 23/12/2024 08:24

No advice but if it helps, I just missed mine too. Although it did say in the leaflet that they need to be out before 6, but I forgot because it's not the usual day 😭

BoobyDazzler · 23/12/2024 08:24

We totally forgot to put our bins out last week… woke up at half 6 to the sound of the lorry rattling down the hill 😫

No idea where we’re going to put all our Christmas rubbish 😆

A couple of days ago there was a poster who asked why bin lorries were so "flashy and shouty"...
You DH and she should set up a support group!

😃

WonderingWanda · 23/12/2024 08:25

Oh dear, poor man. Give him a Baileys and put him in a corner to cool off!

Londonrach1 · 23/12/2024 08:26

Phone the council and say you've had a missed bin collection. You might get lucky

Nc546888 · 23/12/2024 08:27

Silly Billy. Put them out the night before surely???

also I wouldn’t bother calling the council to recollect. They did their job. You didn’t.
take it all to the tip

DollopOfFun · 23/12/2024 08:28

You've missed a bin collection in Xmas week?

I'm with him, PANIC!!

My favourite day of the Xmas period is the bin day after the big day.

Fedupwithteenagers24 · 23/12/2024 08:28

He is particularly peeved as they had turned off the reversing noise - presumably as so early- I think I will suggest early drink to calm him.

Sinkintotheswamp · 23/12/2024 08:28

They won't come back as it's your fault I'm afraid.

I "missed" a collection once and dashed it out to the binmen who were tipping their wheelie bins into the lorry, I was very apologetic. The supervisor bit my head off and refused to take mine and made me cry. Asshole.

pinksheetss · 23/12/2024 08:28

Always put them out the night before, rookie mistake.

RedRiverShore5 · 23/12/2024 08:28

Our council has a time that they must be out by, I think it's about 6:30am, they can change the route at any time for bin collection. I would take it to the tip if your bin is quite full

doodleschnoodle · 23/12/2024 08:28

You'll have to sell the house. You will never recover from this. Move and start afresh somewhere else.

shellyleppard · 23/12/2024 08:29

Our bin collection starts from 6 am but normally gets emptied around 1 pm. This week......7.30am !!! Lot of people running round lol

custardpyjamas · 23/12/2024 08:31

Ours is a day early this week and a day late at New Year (just to keep me confused!), and they sometimes come spot on 7am. We put the bin out the night before to be sure not to miss them.

Ginmonkeyagain · 23/12/2024 08:31

Gosh bins are super early here - ours generally get done at 6am. That said we have those massive communal bins so we don't have to put them out - the bin men go to them.

But they could have had a collection. They just hadn’t put their bins out. Not the council’s fault.

FeegleFrenzy · 23/12/2024 08:33

They’re probably trying to fit in two days of bins in one day. Somewhere else someone who’s normal collection day is Weds will be having theirs done today. So an early start! Tell him to take some bin bags worth of rubbish to the tip!

whenemmafallsinlove · 23/12/2024 08:34

I feel your pain. My dh would have to be sedated if that happened. He also loves going to the tip. He's taking some cardboard today. His little face is so excited. It's such a special time of year!
