I'm in now way defending these men because they are fucking disgusting pathetic excuses for human beings, and I hope after they did it they imagined how they'd feel if it was their mother.
However I will say that I think men are very sexually programmed through no fault of their own, a huge part of their purpose is to impregnate women and so they have a drive to do this. I think this drive and an obsession with porn can make these pathetic characters participate in activities willingly like that.

This is a really good point. Giselle's experience is like a mini version of what happens when an entire society's norms break down/the attitude towards women shifts. In this case, the social norms of one small town were broken down in this one household led by this one man, and it turns out, many otherwise "normal" men became rapists happy to fall in with him.

The other mini society all of its own rules is the establishment upper classes and what goes on in their public schools. I'm talking about the abuse. These privileged background, abused boys become our legislators, our politicians and our judges. Maybe not so much today with safeguarding, but the boys abused in the 60s/70s/80s are the ones in charge now.
