All the business with Lily Philips - how many men queued up to do what they did to her

And Gisele Pelicot

Are men really that obsessed with sex that they are so desperate to rape and queue up and be solely concerned with their own depraved satisfaction.

I know it's not all men but I'm feeling so disillusioned with men in general and it seems to be getting worse and not better.

Does anyone else feel like this? Also the only people I see posting about Gisele are female.

Where are all the men??

I'm raising boys and to be honest it's terrifying to look at my innocent children and the world they are growing up in.

@Startinganew32 again, she's not mentally of sound mind. And I think of her as less disgusting than the men that took part. Would you not consider someone's mental health before taking part in something like that

I totally agree that's what I am struggling with! Not in terms of these individual men, but as a "all men are like tgat'

I'd kinda hope a lot of men would also struggle with it too though? I think my husband would.

Are really all men just not bothered about the safety, wellbeing of somone just thier own pleasure.

You'll never know for sure about your husband because if he has been raised properly he will never admit to having antisocial thoughts. Society tells men how to behave, but it doesn't mean that is what they think and feel. You only need to look at the men who don't abide by society's rules to get a glimpse at what men think and feel. And you only need to look at other societies in the world that have different rules to ours and see how they treat their women. You will see in countries where women have fewer rights that they are subjected to more abuse. This is because men will obey social rules so if society allows them to abuse women they will. Remember how men happily raped or beat their wives before the law said they couldn't do that anymore? Men haven't become better humans over the centuries with only a few bad eggs remaining. It's just that society restricts what they can do to women now.

In general, men centre themselves. Women are just side characters in their lives. They are only concerned about what they can get from women they want in their lives. Hence why they don't care about the issues other women face. And why so many charming men drop the act once they have secured a partner. Or why so many men don't hold back their aggression when said partner is trapped with a pregnancy/baby. Or why so many men lie and cheat on their partners. Men really only care about themselves.

I work in a mens prison, and most of the men I talk to or see about the wing are perfectly reasonable and nice to my face. I get on with the majority I deal with. However, I KNOW what they have done. Some of the outwardly nicest men I have met inside, have done HORRIFIC things to women, and I am telling you, you would not know it if you met them in a pub or on a bus or at work.
It has put me off men and I am very distrustful of men.

Edited

I had to meet an inmate once, when I was working as a Special. He was lovely. Really handsome, very polite, if you met him in the pub you'd see absolutely no red flags at all. If I was single, I would have gone on a date with him. Except I knew why he was inside - he had kidnapped a nurse and kept her in his car boot for 9 days, She was almost dead when she was found. He could not have been nicer. It's worrying how it's not obvious at all sometimes who the monsters are.

I can well believe that ejaculating inside a woman, perhaps a much better- looking one than he could normally hope to attract, would be highly pleasurable for almost any straight man. That’s literally how human males are wired, which is why we’ve been so wildly successful as a species. That’s not to say that almost any straight man would consider such an arrangement.

I find your way of thinking very bizarre and indeed very troubling . The implication that this is normal behaviour for most men is surely a travesty of the moral compass that is usual

Newbutoldfather · 20/12/2024 17:30

Men aren’t a race.

If you look for bad examples of men, you won’t struggle to find them, but it is just confirmation bias.

Would you feel the same about those who rescued the Thai boys stranded in a cave for no material reward? Or the coastguard who are 88% male?

Deadringer · 20/12/2024 17:32

I dont understand why people are saying that Lily Philips is raking it in so it's not a problem, the whole reason that she is making lots of money is because so many men are pretty disgusting when it comes to their sexual habits. Men being willing to pay to get their kicks has created the sex industry, and by default her career, but I suppose it's better than the alternative, men just taking what they want by force.

ImJustFineTYVM · 20/12/2024 17:37

Foul what they’ll do with permission or if they think there will be no consequences

This. And I think it has always been like this, we just weren't as aware of it before.

I'm so glad people are starting to talk about how awful men can be. And I know it's not all men, and I know there are some very depraved women out there too.

But hey, look at what has been elected President in the US, and look at Boris Johnson's record with women.. Blatant and utter disrespect of women and they still get to the top jobs.

MarkWithaC · 20/12/2024 17:38

Jennyathemall · 20/12/2024 17:28

Yes men are in obsessed with sex - they are literally biologically programmed to be. It is the most fundamental reason for their existence, the same as any male animal, to procreate and continue the species. Anything else is environmental and societal window dressing on top of that.

This is such a depressing view and smacks of Andrew Tate et al.

This would indeed be the behaviour of most man - and in fact has been throughout history across all cultures - without any societal constraints (ie your ‘moral compass’) which are pretty much the only thing making them think twice.

There was a male nurse and at least one fireman in the Pelicot case. You can be a coastguard AND be an abuser.

The fireman used the fact he had saved dozens of lives as defence for his crime. That's just BS.

lifeonmars100 · 20/12/2024 17:40

He will more than likely die in jail but that is due to his age, imagine if he was younger, 20 years is nothing, if he was in his 40's he'd be coming out in his 60's and have a fair few years ahead of him. His crimes are horrific and he should have been given much longer but I do not know what the sentencing guidelines are in France

NetZeroZealot · 20/12/2024 17:41

TY78910 · 20/12/2024 14:24

I don't understand how Gisele's husband got only 20 years? For 10 years of consistently drugging his wife, then running a rape brothel? Seems a bit low for me

It was the maximum sentence in France for the crime.

Other than the fact that people don’t agree with her choices, there is nothing indicating that Lily Philips is mentally ill. I bet if a man was wanting to do a challenge of having sex with as many women as he could in a day, nobody would label him mentally ill or a victim.

ConversingWithStrangers · 20/12/2024 17:19

I said something similar to my colleague this morning. She replied, "women are just as bad".

I don't think they are.

I'm willing to bet my life there will never ever be a case involving females to compare to what happened to GP.

Justgorgeous · 20/12/2024 17:43

MemorableTrenchcoat · 20/12/2024 14:07

The men didn’t do anything to Lily Phillips, they accepted an invitation to indulge in a highly pleasurable and consensual activity with a willing participant.

Blimey - if you think that’s highly pleasurable you need to set the bar higher. It’s grim and the men that participated are grim.

Newbutoldfather · 20/12/2024 17:44

@ImJustFineTYVM ,

And you can be a female nurse and a serial killer! But most aren’t.

If you look for bad men, you can find plenty but, as I said, that is confirmation bias. People don’t find hard working moral men much of a story.

I don’t think men are getting any worse either. It is curated media that makes people despair. If you are interested in stories on bad men, your social media will keep serving them up to you.

It is the same reason that reading the Daily Mail will lead you to think your Labour Party are a bunch of corrupt incompetents.

Mummadeze · 20/12/2024 17:44

Over 30 years I was raped by several men at a party whilst I was semi-conscious. I will never be sure how many men slept with me but I know there were at least 4, plus a room full of people (all male) watching and encouraging. I came to and managed to get away but actually what hurt me the most was when I saw young men who I thought were my friends and who I previously thought were really nice in the jeering crowd. I just couldn’t believe none of them tried to stop what was happening or at the very least removed themselves from the room. Even after I came to terms with what happened, it made me very cynical and really made me feel like it is all men deep down. As I say, this was a long time ago and nothing to do with the internet, just horrible human nature.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 20/12/2024 17:44

It's depressing beyond words that with the context of this thread the NAMALT brigade are out in full force

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 20/12/2024 17:47

@Mummadeze Flowers I'm so sorry that happened to you

MemorableTrenchcoat · 20/12/2024 17:48

Yes, the whole concept, and the men involved are grim. Those men were motivated by the sexual pleasure they would derive from the act.

MounjaroOnMyMind · 20/12/2024 17:48

@Mummadeze I had to read that so quickly, it was too horrific to read and absorb fully. That is so terrible - what awful men. I'm so sorry. I agree with you - the internet's provided a way of these bastards getting in touch with each other, but they were always amongst us.

like gisele, i think this is the most disturbing part. That other people knew
and did nothing

BourbonsAreOverated · 20/12/2024 17:52

MarkWithaC · 20/12/2024 17:23

No, absolutely. And also, many women have sad and troubled backgrounds and lives and yet their offending rate and profile is not at all similar.

Cry me a fucking river, basically.

Is there something in the wiring of men that cause them to repeat what happened to them?

if we protect children better, it protects future children.

Riceball · 20/12/2024 17:53

The biggest parallel between the two cases is the entitlement of the men. They felt they could take their pleasure knowing that the other person wasn’t enjoying it or even conscious in the case of Giselle. What does this say about the way we are raising men and boys? Something is badly wrong IMO.

lifeonmars100 · 20/12/2024 17:54

whatistheworld · 20/12/2024 17:04

I completely agree with you! I am happily married with an adult son but they both know my view. ITS NOT ALL MEN, BUT ITS ALWAYS MEN!

the number of middle aged, white, far right men is alarming!
The number of teenage boys that idoliose Andrew Tate is terrifying

The sexism is real and growing in this country and we seem to be going backwards.

and when we read about horrendous things happening to men it is almost always another man who has killed/stabbed/raped/assaulted the male victim. Not all men, but almost always a man and often until they get caught doing something terrible that we know how dangerous they are.
