A large hotel local-ish to us (around 10 miles away) is currently closed for bookings as it is being occupied by just under 400 asylum seekers.

Recently, in our village and a couple of neighbouring ones, there has been a spate of parcels being stolen from doorsteps. I’m sure you can all work out who has taken the blame for this….! Even though one of the perpetrators is known to be a local lad, born and bred in our village, some people are still blaming others..

The comments on Facebook community groups are disgusting.

Since when has it been acceptable to so readily stick the blame upon those literally fleeing their countries?

I honestly feel that as a human race, we are devolving.

Did I say that? I'm saying politicians will use anything to take away from their own failings..go back to reading the daily mail and happy Christmas.

Politicians always have someone to blame for the countries ills.
Hitler managed to convince a country that everything wrong in Germany was down to the Jewish population and anyone else that didn't align to National Socialist values.

Was there statistical data that showed Jews were 6X over represented in sexual crimes? Was this data given by the government?

Can you please explain why you think adult men (whose identity we are unaware of, whose crimes background we are not informed about) should be housed in foster homes and put into classrooms alongside vulnerable children? And can you fully explain why I’m a nazi for thinking this poses a serious problem?

Ok

so this is actually nothing like the persecution of the Jewish community? You just used them as a convenient tool to attempt to silence concerns about women and children’s safety?

You’ve yet to explain how statistical data about the risk of groups of undocumented men relate to the persecution of the Jewish community.

Immigration policy has been a problem for years but some posts on here are dripping in racism and I'm definitely not an open the doors and let all in and of course I want all UK residents to be safe but the frothing at the mouth posts don't help as was witnessed in the summer.
I will reiterate politicians use these negatives for their own end's.

Your reply was to PP who provided data from Germany. So what do you suggest, that politicians don’t use that data?
I mean, the crime stats are what they are, whether politicians use them or not.

Thevelvelletes · 25/12/2024 11:25

Stats can be manipulated and well politicians can lie and do so on a regular basis.

How might these stats have been manipulated and if so, why were the German government actually avoiding releasing them?

If our politicians want to use them for their gain, why will ours not even document these crime statistics for comparison?

So we should just ignore current crime statistics because “Hitler”?

We don't have the relevant crime statistics. People are talking about Germany regarding issues in the UK. There are other countries in Europe. Italy and Greece are more comparable because they also have boat arrivals.

I keep hearing how asylum seekers are committing all this crime and have asked three times for evidence to back that up. No one has provided any evidence.

Evidence would include reports from areas with a high concentration of asylum seekers. There would be articles on the rise in crime in those areas.

What people are doing is making assumptions and casting aspersions, largely gathered from right wing media. Repeating over and over again that these people are a danger.

Again @username299 could you please explain the process by which Germany have the undocumented males with a higher propensity for sexual violence but we have got the nice ones?

Why would means of transportation be more meaningful than demographic similarities?

TENSsion · 25/12/2024 11:47

Also @username299

“Evidence would include reports from areas with a high concentration of asylum seekers.”

The statistics are calculated per capita.
High concentration is irrelevant.

Do you understand that? Or is it just you trying to avoid engaging with the facts again?

TENSsion · 25/12/2024 11:48

And thirdly @username299

Could you please explain how putting undocumented adult males into foster homes and classrooms with vulnerable children because they claim to be minors is not a risk?

We are talking about 'boat people' arriving here. Italy and Greece also have boat arrivals and like us are legally obliged to help those in their water.

What does the fact they’re arriving in boats have to do with the likelihood of them committing crimes?

They’re held in detention camps in Greece and Italy.

People have a right to be pissed off OP. There is a hotel in our town centre housing god knows how many asylum seekers - it was once a nice hotel and accommodated the queen on her visit to the city. Now it’s full of young men from god knows where - all warm and fed whilst British born homeless are hungry and cold in doorways being told there is nowhere for them to go.

If the hotel can be used for these asylum seekers why couldn’t it be used for our own homeless? We had a homeless shelter nearby - they closed it down.

Yes its unjust. But SERCO are making billions.

The situation is more comparable to what we're dealing with rather than Germany. There are many countries in Europe dealing with asylum seekers and Italy and Greece have boat arrivals.

Starmer was talking to Italy regarding how they got their boat arrivals down and about their processing centre in Albania. It was a colossal waste of money, I believe it cost 1bn.

Perhaps we should move the conversation on from hyperbole and look at practical solutions.

Again, the situation is more comparable in regard to how people arrive, but PP who mentioned Germany was talking about crime statistics.

Yes, crime statistics for Germany. You can't just pluck a country out of the air and apply its crime statistics to every other country in Europe because it suits your narrative.

So Starmer was talking to Italy about their processing centre in Albania that didn’t quite work out in the end. How is that particularly helpful?

Crime statistics in Germany, but in regard to the same/ very similar demographic. Crime statistics for the UK are not available for that demographic.

What do you think happens in Germany that leads to increased numbers of sexual assaults committed by undocumented male migrants?
