Is this just one person you know? Because I've never met anyone who's mentioned their dislike of turkey unless they had to, like if you were hosting them for Christmas dinner.

Tagyoureit · 17/12/2024 14:41

🤣🤣🤣
I know the type you mean!

Gertrudesinthegutter · 17/12/2024 14:41

What?

PurpleNebula84 · 17/12/2024 14:42

I don't dislike turkey, but no way am I having it for Christmas dinner... My parents were caterers and I the run up to Christmas nearly every meal would feature turkey in some capacity... I have eaten enough for a lifetime. I'll take beef or lamb please.

Interesting, I think it's become quite a "thing" to turn your nose up at having turkey at Christmas and people who do it are very vocal about it.

Yes I know what you mean 😂

Shatandfattered · 17/12/2024 16:21

"Oh you're not having turkey are you 🤢, we certainly won't be, we don't eat the dry tasteless stuff any other time and fail to see the appeal, we're much more specific in our tastes" those guys? 😂😂

LoobyDoop2 · 17/12/2024 16:23

It’s so tedious! And what they’re actually saying is they don’t know how to cook turkey. Mine isn’t dry and horrible. It must actually take some effort to get something covered in bacon to be dry.

All my parents and in-laws are vocal turkey haters. I have been presented with every kind of greasy game bird turkey alternative in existence (and yes, that could well be bad cooking as well). Goose was a particular low.

user23124 · 17/12/2024 16:25

I always think "oh ok, you are a poor cook who can't handle a turkey" and smile and move on. More for me.

Goose isn't "game bird". Takes some effort to get it wrong 🤣🤣

LoobyDoop2 · 17/12/2024 16:31

It tastes gamey to me. Horrible.

mondaytosunday · 17/12/2024 17:08

Exactly @user23124 ! My turkey is not dry and tasteless! It's not my favourite meat for sure but I wouldn't consider anything else. I've had goose once which was an interesting alternative but I love turkey.

AgnesX · 17/12/2024 17:12

I'm not keen on turkey and we do something else but I don't kick up a fuss about it and will eat it if given.

I think people think it's trendy to be anti turkey. It's like a couple of years go when it was eating out on Christmas day v not eating out and views were very polarised and vocal.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 17/12/2024 17:26

🤣

Yes. Going going on about it's dry. That's what gravy, cranberry sauce and bread sauce are for.

Then it's onto the lack of flavour - see above.

Price - it's once a year.

It really is entire personality thing 😂

Me too. My immediate thought of people that “don’t like turkey” is that they’re rubbish cooks.

Justmuddlingalong · 17/12/2024 17:36

I know a family who have turkey for Christmas dinner, even though none of them like it.
When asked why thay had it then, I was told it's traditional innit!

It's meeeeeee! Lol

FeelingSad2024 · 17/12/2024 17:40

I've always disliked turkey but I hosted and did my own turkey last year for the first time and it was actually nice! Turns out it was just my parents cooking of it all these years that made me hate it

Petergriffinschins · 17/12/2024 17:41

I feel personally attacked.

(I prefer beef).

TheMAFSfan · 17/12/2024 17:41

I thought you meant the country!

Crispynoodle · 17/12/2024 17:43

The people who think Turkey is dry are not cooking it properly. Phil Vickary's method never fails

BoobyDazzler · 17/12/2024 17:43

It’s quite normal to talk about turkey being the most boring meat in the week before every is planning to eat it and hail it as the pinnacle of the whole years cooking.

Unless you’re talking about people who talk about it on the other 51 weeks of the year, yabu.

(Turkey is only worth cooking for the turkey & stuffing sandwiches… and tbh you may as well do a chicken)

Autumn1990 · 17/12/2024 17:44

Yes you soon know the turkey dislikers. It’s dry tasteless etc. they then eat a goose. Which can be unpleasant if badly cooked. Goose can also be gamey depending on breed.
I might be turning into a no turkey for Christmas dinner because I’ve got some as pets. They are lovely birds and I’m not sure I can eat one of their brethren
