XL bully shot

Local XL bully shot today. The owner is saying on social media that the dog was harmless but I've seen it go for a a small child before. Why are these dogs 'harmless" until they injure or kill

Do they take volunteers for shooting these dogs?

I'd happily sign up!

I'm sure the Texans are going to abide by those laws just as XL bully owners do here. Especially since they don't want to make the big profits available from the sale of cubs

Have you always been so naïve?

How do you know? Do you live in Texas?

Kokomjolk · 07/12/2024 21:32

Of course dogs can be bred for certain behaviors!

Herding breeds very often show herding instincts without any training - little collie pups from working lines will start to herd things 100% on instinct.

We used to have pointers and pointer puppies who have never been trained at all will point at birds.

Dogs that have been bred to fight and be 'game' will be more aggressive, more likely to 'snap' and attack, and less likely to give up once they start attacking. Many dogs of fighting breeds have been raised with love in good homes and later attacked another animal or a person out of the blue. They're mentally unstable animals because that suited dog fighters.

No fighting breeds should exist anymore. They are obsolete in a society that has quite rightly agreed that blood sports and dog fighting are immoral.

I've met tiny terriers that have scared me more than most of the XL bullies I've met.

It's not the breed it's the owners. XLBs are popular with roadmen for defensive purposes.

Not an XL, but the best dogs I've ever met were staffies.

You sound absolutely ridiculous. Of course smaller dogs can bite - but they rarely attack and kill people (if ever). It is a KNOWN FACT (and yes, I am shouting) that these dogs have an issue which causes them to go crazy. But there always has to be one, and I guess (in this instance), it's you.

I know things about people's behaviour even if they don't live near me.

This thread is absolutely packed with bullies. I hope you all wear muzzles in public as per the law 😂

LigamentBandy · 07/12/2024 21:36

Because you sound utterly ridiculous ? Because you keep making silly wind up comments? Oh and the punch in the mouth comment. @ScorpioRising83 made me wonder, that's why.

Lighteningstrikes · 07/12/2024 21:36

@IveGotToGoToMeDads
It doesn’t surprise me, it’s yet another demonstration of the low level mentality of XL Bully owners.

Of course you're shouting, you're a bully.

And we demonise a dog breed 🙄

LuckySantangelo35 · 07/12/2024 21:38

@ScorpioRising83

XL bullies should not be in existence. End of.

Oh the irony when you asked the same of another poster. Well you certainly don't leave much doubt as to what your behaviour is with personal insults and quips that seem to sound amusing only to you. But carry on. My point was about your view on tigers going on walks.

renoleno · 07/12/2024 21:39

There's a lot of very stupid people who don't understand that XL bullies can never be trained to exist peacefully as family pets They are unstable and have a much stronger instinct to attack and kill, and unlike german shepherds etc they don't have the temperament or intelligence to decipher a real threat from a non-threat.

Sure, an XL Bully might seem friendly, approachable, loving but it's like living with a pet bear or tiger - the slightest thing can set it off and it will also turn on its owner. Because it's hardwired to react in this way. And the reality is the owners who voluntarily choose a Bully are the issue because they don't have an appropriate amount of fear and respect for the animal which means they'd never bring it home. Anyone who deals with dangerous animal needs to have this; along with the ability to be an alpha.

I hope more of them are shot, and there's more public warnings and restrictions in place, just like there are with bears in the US. Except no one is turning bears into pets and they're still more predictable than an artificially bred animal.

Saschka · 07/12/2024 21:39

Well if nothing else this thread is comedy gold for the people describing something that looks like this as a “sweet little pupster” Confused

We had a black Labrador who would instinctly would stalk birds from being a puppy. She had been bred from gun dogs.

The tinu terriers don't have the jaw size or the bite pressure or the weight etc. to do the damage a bully (or any bull breed) can do.

It's the breed.

Dunnoburt · 07/12/2024 21:42

You've only got to look at nature and things like migration etc. to not dismiss "instinct"

Did you miss my post about the Texan pet tigers?
I've not looking into it, but I'm guessing some people do keep bears.

What's an artificially bred animal Vs a natural one? Can you name a popular dog breed that's natural?

Nobody has actually provided any evidence that XL bullies are inherently dangerous by their birth. Except a wiki link and some references to news reports.

I'd be interested in seeing some actual evidence as some people have made comments pertaining to their breeding history.

What personal insults? Accusing posters of being bullies? If the shoe fits...

renoleno · 07/12/2024 21:45

@ScorpioRising83 I think you're the perfect example of person I referred to in my post. Won't be engaging with you.

ScorpioRising83 · 07/12/2024 21:37

Of course you're shouting, you're a bully.

And we demonise a dog breed 🙄

I am a bully? Is that meant to be some sort of joke or play on words? And yes - there are countless articles proving that these dogs have something in their brain that flips a switch which leads to attacks.

Kokomjolk · 07/12/2024 21:46

Guarding breeds are the other main kind that are more likely to exhibit human aggression, but they are much less dangerous as they are driven to show lots of warning signs and leave you alone if you back off.

A guarding breed might bark, growl, raise hackles at an intruder. And then bite if the intruder doesn't retreat.

A fighting type breed is not trying to make you back down, it is driven to attack without warning (they literally bounce up to people/dogs wagging their tails and then lunge for them) and keep on attacking relentlessly without any care for its own safety.

Once a fighting dog bites down, it often needs to be literally killed to make it release.

StrawberryDream24 · 07/12/2024 21:46

By that logic we have to ban all dogs that are not really small.

France has rules re. muzzling dogs over a certain weight.

IveGotToGoToMeDads · 07/12/2024 21:47

@ScorpioRising83 time & time again these xl bullys are fatally attacking people all over the country. These dogs are extremely dangerous.

Both.

News articles are only evidence of what the news wants to report. There's lots it doesn't report.

Evidence is science, peer reviewed studies ect

StrawberryDream24 · 07/12/2024 21:48

Nobody has actually provided any evidence that XL bullies are inherently dangerous by their birth.

When certain dog breeds or types are responsible for the vast vast majority of attacks and deaths ..... That is the evidence, get it?
