Is this feminism?

I've just read about a 23 year old who comes from a wealthy background and plans to sleep with 1,000 men in 24 hrs.

In the article*, she calls herself a feminist and says she feels empowered.

I don't understand why this woman wants to do this. I can obviously understand the financial aspect but she talks about the event taking place in a warehouse with men coming in one door and leaving out the other.

I'm obviously behind the times because when I was that age, women didn't aspire to live stream themselves having sex with countless men.

I'm wondering what the hell has happened for women to choose to do this and think it's empowering. These women have the support of their families which I also don't understand.

How crap in bed are the guys? The time alone for 1000 guys in 24 hours is 1m.44 secs each. Allow a bit time for...well...getting it in, even as a young man not sure I could get there quite as quick as that. 😂

Nolegusta · 07/12/2024 04:44

I feel like she has mental health issues tbh. Choosing who you sleep with, or what kinks you enjoy, may well be empowering, but choosing to sleep with so many people that there will be very little enjoyment and possibly pain/injury really isn't healthy. I also feel slightly nauseous at the motivation of the men involved in this.

JoshLymanSwagger · 07/12/2024 04:51

That's going to chafe.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 07/12/2024 04:51

I mean its not my idea of a Sunday well spent but I assume this is her job and shes found a gimmick thats getting her promoted accross social media.

Can you be a sex worker and also a feminist? Yes absolutely.

I think there's more to it than that and she's gone down a slippery slope. It says in the article that she's graduated from a few saucy pictures on Only fans to porn and her motivation is money.

Over the years I've read about female students turning to sex work to pay their fees and stripping became an acceptable side hustle.

Girls and young women pose on social media wearing very little. I've heard their mum's encouraging it saying it's feminist. What I find most disturbing is the way their parents seem to go along with it.

It seems as though girls are being groomed by society into sex work.

How is sex work feminist?

It's her choice and body so is that supporting women's choices. But knowing every man there has no respect for her is so degrading. I have no idea whether this is feminist empowering or just disgusting.

Iwanttoliveonamountain · 07/12/2024 05:06

It’s all about the money.

Its a job, how is any job feminist? You can work in the sex industry and believe men and women should have equal rights.

Feminism is about equality, dignity and respect for women.

What's so dignified about a thousand men using your body as a fleshlight? Do you believe these men see her as an equal and respect her?

Feminism is not about the sexual objectification of women, it's the opposite. It's not about catering to men and their desires, it's the opposite.

She's not telling other women what to do so no, it's not feminism

MissTrip82 · 07/12/2024 05:37

Maybe not but the last thread about someone doing something similar was absolutely filled with misogyny directed at the woman involved. It was desperately unpleasant.

"Your body, your choice " is a fucking con. Women and girls have been fed this line for decades now in the pretence that's it's empowering them. It's a systemic con job that these people have utterly fallen for and men are fucking delighted.

It's the same degradation of our bodies though, the same usage, the same misogyny, the same disrespect of women as old as time, only this time, they've been conned into thinking it's fucking empowering.

These men are just fucking an orifice. Not one will take this girl home to meet their families, or would want her as a life partner.

1,000 men? Fills me with disgust and bile and fear. Someone's father, son, brother. 😞

Yes it was appalling. I'm more interested in how we've got here as a society and the way people view feminism than badmouthing her.

TTPDTS · 07/12/2024 05:42

I'm not sure that it is feminism - how is shagging 1000 men in 24 hours achieving equality for women? How is it promoting women's rights? Fighting against stereotypes? Improving life for other women?

It's definitely not in my book. I can't see a single feminist thing about it, the whole "my body my choice" thing is a great phrase, but does that trip back up what's happening here - selling yourself for money to be used by men? Is that a true choice? Or is it a tool by men 🤷🏻‍♀️

Iwanttoliveonamountain · 07/12/2024 05:44

Feminism is not one way of being a woman. ‘True choice’ ?

Itsacoldcoldwinter · 07/12/2024 05:44

I agree with you OP.

To me it's just playing into the view point, sadly held by vast numbers of men, that women are merely objects to be used.

Is everything a woman does feminist because she's a woman?

Well, in response to your question: The freedom to choose when and with whom to have sex is feminist, yes. The freedom to enjoy the sex you choose definitely is, and so is the freedom to choose not to have sex you won't enjoy.

Doing sexual activities for the gratification of men rather than your own enjoyment is anti-feminist. It perpetuates male objectification of women as nothing but fuckable bodies.

Getting money for the above does not count as sexual enjoyment. Being paid for sexual activities is the epitome of anti-feminism: it reduces the female self to a product for sexual consumption by men. That is not how feminism sees the female self.

Iwanttoliveonamountain · 07/12/2024 05:55

So a prostitute cannot be a feminist?

im not convinced

Goodnight

Happyinarcon · 07/12/2024 06:06

Feminism is whatever they tell us it is. In the barbie movie getting kidnapped and brainwashed by a global toy corporation was apparently feminist.

khaitai · 07/12/2024 06:09

It's very popular among younger generations to think feminism is just about supporting women to do whatever they want. That sex work is work and empowering. I've seen these types of "feminists" talking about this particular woman online and the cognitive dissonance is quite amazing to watch.

Anyone with a deeper reading of feminism knows that no this is obviously not feminist. Feminism is about liberating women, all women, from oppression. In a world where Dominique Pelicots exist, this kind of behaviour is dangerous and degrading not only to this particular woman but to all women.

Selling your body for sex is not feminism.

Supporting sex workers and helping them to get out of sex work is feminism. Many feminists believe in the decriminalisation of sex work because it makes sex work safer.

madametav · 07/12/2024 06:16

No one who has any sense of self worth or self esteem whatsoever could do this. She is allowing herself to be degraded and treated as an object.

Louise Perry has writes about something called sexual disenchantment in her book "the case against the sexual revolution" and I can't think of a better example of it than this.
