I thought boomers were up to 1964, BBC news had an article about "Alphas". In which boomers were designated as born between 1940 and 1960, so I am an "X" now. Given the resentments that exist towards "Boomers", maybe it is for the best.

1946 - 1964 are the baby boomers (post war generation)
gen x is 1965 until 1979/80bbc are talking shit.

smooththecat · 06/12/2024 23:23

Millennial is 1980+ that’s why we have geriatric millennials now

EmeraldRoulette · 06/12/2024 23:24

that can't be right? I mean the BBC have got the dates or names wrong?

LaurieFairyCake · 06/12/2024 23:24

Huh? The oldest millennial is only 45 Confused

Willowkins · 06/12/2024 23:26

I think in the UK it's up to 1960 and in the US it's up to 1964 - might explain the confusion. I'm a boomer either way.

Angrymum22 · 06/12/2024 23:28

Me too always felt more like an X due to the fact I was caught in the negative equity in the 1990s. It wasn’t all boom time for the tail end boomers and we have been caught out with pension age changing.

Printedword · 06/12/2024 23:28

I never thought of my generation as boomers, it was a struggle even to apply it to my late bro born in the 50s.

As for those of us in our 60s we have nothing in common with classic boomer. Most of us didn’t benefit from very cheap house prices etc.

KimberleyClark · 06/12/2024 23:35

I’ve been deboomerised too. Born in 1961.

Gingernaut · 06/12/2024 23:39

I thought this was it?

1968, so Gen X here

BBC have deboomerised me.
SwedishEdith · 06/12/2024 23:41

I've never felt I fitted into the same generation as my "in-laws" so feels natural to me to be X instead.

Lets's find the oldest millenial!! 1 Jan 1980, anyone? One minute past midnight 😆
And the youngest Gen X, only a few minutes older

Welcome to the coolest generation.

Not that we ever tried to be. We just are 😁

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/12/2024 00:02

First rule of GenX, don't talk about GenX.

Everyone ignores us, we don't care.

Err, maybe it depends where you live.

I was born in 1962, so 62 now, my first house cost £18,250. Just saying. My salary was £9,000, which was pretty good at the time.

Not sure what classic boomer things you mean. I did just miss out on a final salary pension. However, I got full maintenance grant at University and nobody paid tuition fees in those days.

Waves - Not quite 1 Jan but not far off. (Don't think I'm quite at geriatric yet though 🤣).

Strangely all my fellow classmates bar 2 were Gen X.

Ursulla · 07/12/2024 00:10

Whatever...

Not that we ever tried to be. We just are 😁

We grew up with the best fucking music. We went outside and played and learned how to do stuff by messing about with it until it worked. We did all sorts of stuff a lot of kids now would be terrified of, and we're still alive! I some of us are a bit weird (me) but we are COOL.

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/12/2024 00:12

I saw a great quote. GenX the only generation to be 30 at 10 and still 30 at 50. Grin

MrsSkylerWhite · 07/12/2024 00:12

I am definitely a BOOM 🤣

damebarbaracartlandsbiggestfan · 07/12/2024 00:17

'Meh,' said one of the gen Xers with a shrug. 'I could look up the dates but... actually, I can't be bothered.'

Yes! Proper raves, Cool Britannia, grunge, metal rock. The 90’s was such a good era for music.
And who can forget inflatable everything (bags, chairs etc) ahhh 😁
