I thought boomers were up to 1964, BBC news had an article about "Alphas". In which boomers were designated as born between 1940 and 1960, so I am an "X" now. Given the resentments that exist towards "Boomers", maybe it is for the best.

I’m a xennial! Born 1981, analogue childhood, digital adulthood. Met my husband at a chance meeting at a gig and exchanged email addresses!
We lived a couple of hundred miles away and so “courted” (boomer term there) via email! We both used to go to internet cafes to rendezvous. Very “you’ve got mail” 😂

I can't remember anyone I knew having a mobile phone until 1997 (which were little relation to today's phones)

Everyone I knew had that Nokia with the changing covers before 97.

According to Google, the first express covers were 1998.

Me too.

Colourblinds · 07/12/2024 05:00

@libertineagain I must be mixing up my models then as I definitely had a phone whilst still in secondary school.

Colourblinds · 07/12/2024 05:03

My first phone was probably a parental cast off that I’ve banished from my memory!

Angrymum22 · 06/12/2024 23:28

Me too always felt more like an X due to the fact I was caught in the negative equity in the 1990s. It wasn’t all boom time for the tail end boomers and we have been caught out with pension age changing.

The 'boomer" was about the boom in births after the war, not any financial booms.

BeatrizBoniface · 07/12/2024 05:05

You'll just have to work out what the younger generations can blame you for now.

This is a result ! 🤣🙌

FYI I don’t resent boomers !

I love the word ‘deboomerised!’

So she'll need to work out what she'll be blamed for.

1946 - 1964 are the baby boomers (post war generation)
gen x is 1965 until 1979/80bbc are talking shit.

Boo hoo - from 1964 here and was hoping for Generation X as that does sound cooler than Boomer.

Ohnonotrain · 07/12/2024 05:08

I’d never heard of it until recently, did it suddenly become popularised to talk about?

I worked in computers as they started to be cheap enough for small business to have them in 1980’s in my first jobs. At the time it was a job, a fun job, looking back I realise I was right in the middle of the biggest thing that’s hit the planet probably since electricity and aviation.

Interestingly, all members of the ridiculously good looking pop/punk group ‘Generation X’ are Boomers ! 🙌

Frauds! Fancy being able to get on the housing ladder and masquerading as younger people. Outrageous 🤣

Nothing to blame her for - just being cool, drinking Pimms, watching the world go by and not getting involved in pointless drama ! 🤣🙌

Sounds like a plan to me.
Were they the generation that introduced curly perms and white stilletos? Someone needs to take responsibility for those.

Jumell · 07/12/2024 05:14

Ok I went to a Barron Knights concert some years ago (one for the teenagers…) and before going guessed that the demographic would be predominantly Boomers

They were excellent btw

Awful! Especially as at least 2 of them are now living in LA (I think)

VaddaABeetch · 07/12/2024 05:28

I’m Gen X, I stole all the houses & had an easy ride at work to earn lots. Apparently

I have 6 boomer siblings, another Gen X & 1 millennial. The boomers aren’t rich, maybe they’re booming wrong?
