@Apolloneuro my son is 10. We've got the Educational Psychologist due out today to discuss his school avoidance and while I'm not holding out any hope, I will continue to engage and keep trying to get him back in if only for a few hours a day.
@RaspberryBeretxx I don't often sleep in but what I don't like so much is everyone else in the house being up with me! My son has a friend a few doors away, there's 2 weeks between them in age and he is also getting the same scooter so they will probably be doing laps of the road by 6.15am!

Good luck with the educational psychologist, I really hope they are some help for him.

That sounds so fun on Christmas morning with your son's friend getting an escooter too 😍. I got my DS one of these a few years ago and he absolutely loved it and it got so much use (which reminds me I should charge it up and see if he wants to use it again!).

@RaspberryBeretxx Oh that looks really cool. My niece got a hoverboard a few years back and I never mastered getting anywhere on it. I mean nowhere! I've decent balance through yoga but these were beyond me 😅

Malbecfan · 18/12/2024 11:09

To answer a few questions:
@Apolloneuro I will wear my bright pink raincoat that I got from Dingles closing down sale. Not sure which spoon to bring as I am a bit boring that way.

@Imbluedalale a thought. Can you re-frame the flashbacks in some way as steps on the road? A bit like in labour, each contraction is a step closer to meeting your baby, each flashback is a step further away from the monster ex, but something you have to go through to achieve freedom and serenity.

Sorry if this doesn't make much sense. I walked the 2 miles to and from the shop to get mu dad's paper. There are no pavements, it's quite muddy and there were so many idiots trying to mow me down, and I'm still shattered. I need to clean my flea pit of a house too.

Enjoy your day everyone!

MsJinks · 18/12/2024 11:11

Hi again - glad other posters remembered teens are horrific and can be horrible - I’d forgotten what a terror I was and even my nicest most compliant child was - so much so that I dreaded the return of the teens with my younger 2 much, much more than the return of nappies! It is however very clear your kids also recognise that it’s you who loves, cares and is there for them - it will all be good as they return to being human beings Laura.
I do indeed live in Sheff - proud of being a Yorkshire lass (mostly!) I grew up and married here but went to a Derbyshire village after first marriage broke down - this was temporary exile in my head but lasted 28 years partly due to another ridiculous marriage- least I have my 4 daughters and now 4 grandchildren and though all bar one child stayed there when I returned it’s still close enough for cuddles - and babysitting!
I never know why Xmas sneaks up on me - one week is not enough time left - rewatching or watching missed Brookside is helping wrap the presents - I still like Barry 🙈🤣🤣

AdmittowearingCrocs · 18/12/2024 11:22

Morning Laura and all Spoonies, I’m a bit of a night owl so up later this morning. When I was working I had to make myself go to bed at 10 pm as I had to get up at 5.45 am in order to get ready and drive to work to start at 8.00am. I have now reverted back to my natural rhythm of late nights and mornings and I don’t feel guilty at all. Does take me a while to get moving though 🤭
Laura, glad your daughter stayed last night. Getting eye rolls from her is the privilege of being her mum and the person she has chosen to spend time with. Just remember that the phone calls from her gran (ex’s mother) are because she is jealous your daughter is with you so enjoy being a thorn in her side as there is nothing she can do.
The text from your son is lovely , such a change from how he was before.
Enjoy your M&S lunch, it will be so good for you to get out. Hope your leg is feeling better?
@RaspberryBeretxx the pendant your son has bought for his girlfriend is beautiful.
@Apolloneuro hoping you you are feeling better and looking forward to Christmas?
@MsJinks make the most of cuddles with your new grandchild, they grow so quickly.
@nornironlady it’s lovely that your son is so excited for his scooter, he will have fun with his friend. My lot used to wake me up really early and because I was on my own I had to get up. But I loved seeing their little faces full of excitement. Hope it goes well with the education psychologist.
@PeggyMitchellsCameo glad you are feeling better and got it out of the way before Christmas.

TealPoet · 18/12/2024 19:15

Sorry I’ve been absent again everyone. I’m really struggling with my health, and like @Apolloneuro I’m finding MN really stressful and not somewhere I want to be apart from this thread. And again I never get alerts for some reason even though they’re switched on!

Laura @Imbluedalale I’m so sorry you’ve been through so much these past few days and I didn’t know 😰 You’re amazing for supporting your DS so well and still making clear to his GF that you don’t condone what he did - that’s such a hard line to tread! And like others, I think it’s huge that the older two keep coming to you for help. You’re obviously handling them just right. Now what can we do to help you fight for the youngest?

I can’t imagine how traumatic the flashback must have been. Of course ex blamed you for everything - he had a pattern that whatever you did was wrong. But actually he was the one behind it all! What a vile thing - he doesn’t deserve to be called a man!

Imbluedalale · 17/12/2024 21:18

Well I’m more than happy to do a wattsapp.
Well my afternoon took a rather funny turn. My eldest rang me really upset as he cheated on his gf back in May and she’s just found out and dumped him which I really don’t blame her for tbh. But my eldest asked me to help him show he’s sorry and he’s never really opened up to me before so I said I’d try. He knows she might never forgive him but he wanted to say he’s sorry. So I asked my daughter to meet me in town and I got her a gift bag of gifts . He’s working away in Liverpool so couldn’t do it himself. I got her a jellycat which is a bunch of roses, a bracelet with her name on, fluffy socks, candle, chocolates and a bunch of flowers because I remember her saying a few weeks ago that he had never bought her flowers. And she was coming to see my daughter at mine for an hour this evening so I gave her them and she started crying. Felt so heartbroken for her. I told her I don’t condone what my son’s done but I hope she stays in contact with me and daughter . I asked my son why he did it and he says he really doesn’t know and that he’s an idiot . I hope he can learn from this and realise you can’t treat people like that xx

awwww how lovely of you to go out and do that for your sons girlfriend. It’s a tricky position for you to be in as you’re obviously upset at what he’s done and don’t condone it but you clearly like her too!

lovely that they both came back to yours and I bet it was nice to have some company.

I’ve been off work this afternoon so my friend came for coffee. My DD still isn’t very well so she’s not been herself all day again. Xx

MsJinks · 18/12/2024 07:24

Hi Laura and all - it's going to take a long time to process the awful years with despicable ex and gruesome gran. My first marriage broke up over 35 years ago and I still wonder if my clothes aren't a bit tarty for example - very, very rarely though and it's like a different life altogether mostly that's like a (bad) TV show. The horrible memories will fade, and already it's suggested you are good to help others in your situation- which is amazing. Even on this thread your experience gives insight and helps others - this 'experience' being passed on for me is a great thing, it's how we make sense of what happened and use it for some good. It's so super raw for you still though you must be kind to yourself. You'd never have pleased the ex - some guys, maybe people, just relish finding anything and everything to beat another person with even when it's beyond irrational.
You've shown your kids you are better than to accept shite behaviour and also you can do amazing stuff solo. Sadly your son may learn more if his g/f refuses to try again - but you have handled it really well - you're so empathetic and kind.
Anyway I've been absent partly as I'm carp at keeping up with stuff but also Santa came early with a new grandchild - so that's been keeping us busy and happy.
I didn't get them a spoon stupidly - but I have got one of kids a cake slice which says 'happiness is cake' so that's my poor attempt at being a bit of a spoonie 🙈
I believe that I was born where you live Laura though moved early on, or was moved as I was a few weeks old, to the Weston Park city - not so far from you - it's a small world on here but mostly we never realise.
Wishing you and all of you a lovely and peaceful day full of nice things - and cake!

Are you still in the Weston park city now? As that’s where I live xx

Morning. I was just thinking yesterday we hadn’t seen you for a while @PeggyMitchellsCameo. I hope you’re feeling better. Good to get it over with before Xmas. I guess we all gather together a bit more at this time of year and share bugs.

@MsJinks a new grandchild! That’s about the best present anyone could wish for. Are they near you, so you can have lots of cuddles. How’s the new mum? Is it your daughter or DiL?

@nornironlady i bet you can’t wait to see his little face when he sees that scooter! I’m not I know how old he is?

Hi to spoonies not seen yet today @AdmittowearingCrocs @BeNavyCrab @RaspberryBeretxx @Giraffe888 @Munchyseeds2 @TealPoet et all.

Have we seen @ChoccieCornflake recently?

Go on and make the workers a drink, @Imbluedalale 😀 Bloody love the M&S cafe and food hall. Have fun. Reminds me I’ve got some M&S mince pies in the cupboard. Must have one today.

Can I just say, you including me in the list of people not seen but saying hello to really has touched me ❤️ I’m not prolific on here like many of you but I’m always here in spirit!

Giraffe888 · 18/12/2024 19:39

Apolloneuro · 18/12/2024 20:03

Oh bless you @Giraffe888. I can’t believe what a lovely group of people @Imbluedalale has gathered.

@TealPoet would you be to up for moving to a WhatsApp group? I don’t think we’ll ever forget the incredible kindness you showed to Laura all those months ago xx

Giraffe888 · 18/12/2024 20:24

She certainly has brought together some incredible individuals. Makes you truly appreciate the good people in life!

hope you’ve enjoyed your trip to M&S today @Imbluedalale xxx

RaspberryBeretxx · 18/12/2024 10:20

Oh dear. No Mr Grey?! No cookies for them today until they can bring some eye candy 😂.

What a lovely text from your son. I'm so glad you got to see your daughter as well despite the huffing (which sounds totally normal for a 17 yo! I'm sure I was the same...). I hope that when your younger son gets home, your older 2 will help him back to you. It must be hard for him to know what to think just now when he's isolated by his Dad.

Enjoy your M&S lunch, is your daughter at college today or is she coming with you? That sounds good to get out.

My DS got this for his gf: https://prya.co.uk/products/juliet-rose-necklace?_pos=1&_sid=bbb05f3e0&_ss=r&variant=20715961679926 It has pretty good reviews so hopefully it's a good choice (and arrives in time!). I then had a look around that site and now want a necklace with my initial and birth stone!

Morning all the spoonies. Hope you're all well. It's so windy out there!

Hope you're feeling a bit better today @Apolloneuro .

@MsJinks many congrats on your new grandchild. What a lovely early Christmas present 😍.

@nornironlady I love how excited your son is about his scooter and getting up early! Sounds like you won't get much of a lie in on Christmas day 😄.

Glad you're on the mend, @PeggyMitchellsCameo . I love the sound of the fortnum and masons tea caddy decoration.

Evening @RaspberryBeretxx , how’s your day been? Good I hope.
Unfortunately there was no Mr Grey today but I couldn’t not offer them a drink although they didn’t want one today. But they are lovely they always wave at me through window now.
My eldest has been messaging me loads lately and opening up to me which has been nice. He’s been so lovely with me and telling me he loves me every day. I’ve been reading all the spoonies posts about being 17 and it has changed my perspective on how I feel that my daughter gets like that and has made me more understanding because I too once was an awkward at times selfish 17 year old. So I’m going to try and not take it to heart. ❤️
My daughter left early this morning to go to college , I made her some Nutella on toast for her breakfast and tried not being as chatty and she was ok.
I’ve had a lovely afternoon with my mum and dad and it felt so nice to get out for a few hours, I didn’t realise how much I needed it.
We went to M&S and went to the cafe and I was really looking forward to having some banana bread but they had sold out so I had a s’mores hot chocolate and some little posh sandwiches which were lovely. We then went to get a few bits for me in M&S. I got some lovely treats for Christmas, I got some pretzels, nuts, a cheese platter with different cheeses on and some cookie dough. We then went to home bargains and got a few bits. My mum and dad were howling at me as we went down the healthcare aisle and I was shocked to find a huge insemination syringe on the shelf. I was astonished as to how big the thing was and said to my mum and dad that I didn’t realise insemination kits were that big. Anyway it turned out that somebody had put it there from another section. It wasn’t an insemination syringe it was a turkey Baster. Never heard of them before but there you go.
We then came back home and my dad completed my cabinet for me in my room. It’s looking more homely each and every day. I’ll add pics but it still looks quite bare as needs pictures and a clock on wall but I’m getting there and I love it . We all got abit emotional when we stood in my living room and my mum and dad said look how far I’ve come when all I had a few weeks ago was a little suitcase.
Im even starting to like my ozempic tree. 🌲
Omg I absolutely love Prya and that necklace is gorgeous they have a gorgeous bracelet on there with pearls on . It’s becoming very popular especially on tik tok. Your son’s girlfriend is very lucky.
It’s been windy here all day and now it’s pouring it down and it’s that horrible wet rain.
Sending big hugs xxxx

It all looks so lovely - the touches of yellow are so sunny and make you forget the rain, and I love the slim tree and those little trees too. I envy you your flat garden - mine is a slope and I can hardly get to the bottom of it any more.

I just realised that I think I was on your previous threads under a different name - I think it was kittylion, I changed name for something, can't remember.

Spoon on spoonies!

I hope you managed to rest when you got home after your walk. There’s so many idiots driving about lately . I’m like you and love having a lay in although the digging into hell has put a stop to that this week.
I didn’t let exs mum ruin my time with my daughter and was blasé about it . Oh isn’t that a good word ‘blasé’ .
My leg is feeling a lot better thank you , still hobbling on crutches but it looks like it’s healing well. I get my stitches taken out on Monday .
I’ve had a lovely afternoon with my mum and dad . Also I got an Eton mess cream doughnut . Well I’ll have to have it now with it being fresh cream so it’s not my fault that I have 2 cakes in a day is it?

I’m definitely up for WA as long as you don’t all expect me to keep up with everything - I’m just not able to! Please know that it doesn’t mean I don’t care; I do truly. I have really low social energy though and get overwhelmed really easily.

Laura that donut/cake looks fabulous! Of course you had to eat it while it was fresh!

And oh yes, 17! I think I’m still a bit of a brat now, to be honest; I think I must have been awful as a teenager! I can’t actually really compute that I’m nearly 38 not 18 - somehow everything seemed to stop then and I don’t feel like I’ve grown up at all! Can anyone relate or is that just another way I’m weird? There are plenty of them!

Laura I will get those pictures I had made to you; I’m so slow I know! They are literally here in my room; they just need boxing and sending. But oh boy am I slow! I’m sorry 😔
