Just that really.

What kind of things do they like in general? Have they got good stamina ? I suppose it depends how they live their lives. Would love some feedback on things like -

kind of things they’d like to receive for birthdays /Xmas

music they like?

in case someone’s asking - I’ve got a little crush 🤣

They're probably planning on seducing him with a Greggs pasty and a bacon bap.

Surely a pizza slice would be both nutritionally better and cheaper?!

OP, you seem to have little experience of the world. Have you been sent from a galaxy far, far away to learn our ways ahead of the invasion?

Jumell · 05/12/2024 08:46

I could get him a compilation take of hits by :

Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich
Tremeloes
Manfred Man
Amen Corner
The Move
Herman’s Hernits
Small Faces

What fabulous music there was back then !

I thought you said 56?

The music you list is what my parents (early 80s) grew up on.

At 56 hes more likely to like grunge, hip hop... or Oasis.

MiddleClassWomanOfACertainAge · 05/12/2024 11:08

Not all men of that age are identical, but a fair few of them will be profoundly grateful to any woman willing to shag them.

Fair enough! I’m closer to your parents on musical tastes !

Are you in your 80s OP?
Is that why you need help to understand men in their 50s?

Patterncarmen · 05/12/2024 11:12

Deathraystare · 05/12/2024 09:38

@Patterncarmen
I like the sound of your husband! Obvs you do too! Fellow punk music lover.

Thank you. He is one cool guy. I’m happy I met him.

Ggmores · 05/12/2024 11:14

are you trying to snag a younger man? This is a very odd post!

ItGhoul · 05/12/2024 11:15

Jumell · 05/12/2024 09:55

Fair enough

But I love these bands 🙌

But just because you love them, why would you expect him to? Most of those bands date from before he was born.

My DP is 56, coincidentally. If you presented him with a CD of those bands he'd think you were mad.

My DP likes running, football, modern art, books, arthouse cinema, travel, posh restaurants, going to gigs, theatre etc. He mostly wears jeans, t-shirts and Converse or Timberland boots. His music tastes include some punk and New Wave but mostly indie and electronic music. Currently he's working downstairs and I can hear him listening to a Spotify playlist that includes Fontaines DC, Wet Leg, Janelle Monae, Bob Vilan and some random 80s hip-hop.

I've got one and he's nothing like some on here - they really aren't all the same!

Mine likes decent clothes, indie music, new tech, cars, dogs and cake

Yes but this isn't about you, is it @Jumell ? You asked what a 56 year old might like as you, age 34 or thereabouts, have a crush.

It's the same as looking at what was in the charts when you were born and basing your tastes on back then. In fact, do this for your crush (who would have been early twenties then) and you won't be far wrong!

Alondra · 05/12/2024 11:32

It's not about men and age, it's about friendship, similar values and financial resources at this age.

Is he financially independent?

Has he lived alone for a few years and able to take care of himself without a woman to make it easier for him?

Are his kids grown up, independent but having a good close relationship with him?

Is he emotionally available? Can you talk and make decisions about your everyday life without him blowing out in anger or having to walk on eggshells from fear?

Are you compatible? Do you want similar things in present life and in the future?

His age is immaterial, OP. You've said little about yourself except you fancy him and "fancy" is not a term to look for in a good partner, specially in mature age when they come with baggage.

Nothatgingerpirate · 05/12/2024 11:34

The answer is NO.
😂

Fairyliz · 05/12/2024 11:39

I’m in my 60’s but having seen DH and friends husbands in their 50’s I would say they are generally grumpy; running to seed and very set in their ways.
They like to think that they are wild and free and can attract gorgeous young women, but actually get stressed if they have to wait 30 minutes for dinner.
Yours of course may be different but statistically it is unlikely.

What kind of things do they like in general?
Watching sports, bird watching, DIY, fast cars and gardening.

Have they got good stamina ?
They can walk up a flight of stairs without pausing.

birthdays /Xmas
4 cans of premium lager and some pork scratchings.

music they like
Oasis, The Jam, Chemical Brothers, The Orb and Blondie.

My 56 year old husband would begin divorce proceedings if I suggested any of those hobbies or gave him those gifts.

He quite likes The Jam though.

mrlistersgelfbride · 05/12/2024 11:41

Can't imagine being arsed with men when I'm in my 50s...you do you though.

TheTecknician · 05/12/2024 11:41

I'm 54 soon so close enough to qualify for comment. I like the countryside, airports, aeroplanes, old technology, nice food, alcoholic drinks generally (not cider or lager), 1950s to early 1980s music, piano music (can't play very well), jazz and some classical music. I hardly watch television and I am not a sports fan. Not keen on children - I never learned how to get on with them. HTH.

And yet there’s many of them who think they’re doing women their own age a huge favour by even glancing in their direction

HollyKnight · 05/12/2024 11:43

My dad is a couple of years older than that. He likes whiskey, Metallica, and Man United. The same things he has always liked. Why don't you ask the 56 year old what he likes?

Jumell · 05/12/2024 11:49

Hiiteex · 05/12/2024 11:40

My 60 year old does martial arts training and has turned the garage into a gym. He doesn't drink and hates football. He likes cooking and rugby. He also likes going to the ballet and opera. He's learning Italian.

Dagnabit · 05/12/2024 11:54

My 57yo DH loves music, goes to lot of gigs, is an avid gym goer/weightlifter, enjoys time with his family and loves watching the telly! Also partial to IPAs and whisky. Hates technology, has a smart phone and tablet though but moans about it All. The. Time. 😂
