Is this a reasonable response to the Darlington Nurses issue? (males in female changing spaces)

Wes Streeting requested the Darlington Nurses drafter the guidance.

An interesting examination of the article from another thread:

https://hysteretic.substack.com/p/transgender-activists-should-also

It's a very good article well worth a read

"The fact is, no one is “threatened by trans people’s very existence.” People are humans. They exist. They deserve basic rights. What we’re objecting to are the precepts of their ideology and the harm it causes."

I see it's time to bring out this handy visual aid to explain why transwomen should never be given entree female spaces

About 500% more likely yes?

The biological male in question is a transwomen not a transman who are biologically female

Apologies - because he still has a penis and has a girlfriend I assumed he was a "transforming male"

It always seems logical that way to me too. I wish it were that way as at it keeps the person's correct sex in the label, so everyone is clear the person is part of a subset of men, not of women.
Which I guess is the reason why its not that way round.

MyrtleStrumpet · 04/12/2024 15:58

Disabled people's toilets are internally lockable, sealed floor to ceiling and contain washing facilities. Access is separate to male and female facilities. Mixed sex facilities that are individual lockable rooms containing washing facilities may be used, but where washing facilities are separated from the rooms, even if they are sealed, this poses a danger to women meeting men at the sinks. It can also be embarrassing if your having to wash a period cup or stained hands.

It's almost as if the Health and Safety Executive thought about it when they drew up the regulations.

Building regs aren’t written by H&S execs
Amendments are made whilst chasing their tails.

I’ve spent years just trying to get adequate provision for women in public buildings….and yet nothing has improved

MyrtleStrumpet · 04/12/2024 16:10

My point was that "gender neutral " toilets for disabled people have been designed with safety and dignity in mind. Stonewall has persuaded schools and public organisations that they can ignore law and the regulations and this is the mess we're in.

Absolutely agree
What a mess
Can I be a bit picky and say the gender neutral toilets you are referring to are for anyone with access issues.
They are accessible toilets for anyone, not just the disabled.

Yes, of course. I hate using "disabled toilets" as if the toilet has a disability or people with disabilities are toilets... Accessible toilets is probably a better phrase.

I have to use them myself.

I haven’t scrolled down that.
Thats truly frightening and utter disgusting
Why hasn’t that been taken down

even easier, just google "terf" and switch to picture/ photo results. It won't be good. That's how mellow, considerate, "just wanting to live their lives", "T does not have anything to do with you", "it doesn't affect anyone else", liberal and and relaxed, "live and let live", tolerant and peaceful some people are.

Yep and that's just the ones who were sent to jail, we all know that most sex offenders never see the inside of a prison

And this...

"Trans people should not be allowed to use women’s showers and changing rooms, proposed NHS guidance says" - Darlington Nurses draft new guidance.
DisappearingGirl · 04/12/2024 19:23

The UK Supreme Court is currently deciding whether it is lawful to exclude all males from a space or service as suggested in the Equality Act 2010 ... or whether trans women (biological males) with a Gender Recognition Certificate must legally be treated as female "for all purposes" as suggested in the Gender Recognition Act 2004.

BBC summary of the issues here:
www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/clyvdd671e6o

The judgement is due in Spring 2025. If the Supreme Court decides that males with a GRC are legally female for all purposes, then I don't think good old Wes Streeting would be able to enact this guidance. In fact, it would never again be legally possible to have a space or service only for biological females.

And this...

How can a single sane person look at those mug shots and still declare TWAW?

Because none of them actually believe it.

It's more like a declaration of their faith.

That's not correct there are exemptions in the equality act that specifically deals with excluding people with a grc from certain single sex exemptions (which includes toilets, changing rooms and sports) that are not under question in the sc case. The matter in question is whether men with a grc are women under the act outside of the specific limited exemptions

I listened to the entire court case and it was utterly hilarious. Even the barrister for the trans movement struggled to answer questions and constantly declared she couldn’t answer and needed a lunch break to draw up a flow chart. On one day lunch was declared as she needed a stapler.

If FWS don’t win this one there’s no hope for women at all.

Sadly I'm not sure that's correct, though I wish it was! I think the Equality Act is woolly on this. In fact even the Equalities and Human Rights Commission said in the court case that the Equality Act is unclear and needs to be amended.

Hoardasurass · 04/12/2024 20:03

There are specific single sex exemption written into the act that say it is legal to exclude anyone with a grc from certain spaces but they are very limited and there is confusion over whether they are blanket as 1 single assessment for all transwomen wanting to join a women's rape counselling group or if you need an assessment for each individual transwomen thanks to stonewall.
The case is about whether a man with a grc is a woman when it comes to sex in the equality act barring the specific exemptions.
