Apologies if there is already a thread on this?

See attached screenshots

Looks like people have really been waiting on his downfall 🤭🤭

(Obviously, I know it's a serious matter for those who've been victimised by the guy, not being dismissive of them)

Just seems like he's really pissed off his fellow celebs

I think we're really stretching the definition of "handful" now aren't we Gregg?

Just office bantz! 🤢

It’s years and years since I watched Masterchef, but can the BBC just edit out his scenes or is that not possible?

No, no, no. We have to stop with the autism = no concept of emotion. Speaking about sex or comments of anything about that nature when it’s not warranted or uncalled for in the WORKPLACE is not autism it’s misogynist, rude and entitled.

Being autistic doesn’t mean you can’t learn either, if you’ve gotten something wrong once innocently and have to be told hey this isn’t appropriate, as a functioning respectful person in society you just wouldn’t at all try to do it again.

Its far from a misunderstanding, it’s making women feel uncomfortable, it’s a feeling that he’s superior, it’s so blatant.

The video he has just done says it all, but it should never have been questioned anyway. He thinks of women and their feeling as lower than him. But that’s nothing to do with autism!

I'm very very empathetic. Hate it, because if someone is in a bad mood I get really tense, and if they're upset I get upset too. DS had to have some blood tests the other day. Never heard him cry like that, because I usually sort out whatever is making him cry before he really starts, and I ended up crying too because my baby was upset and I couldn't do anything about it. (Well I could have told the HCPs to bugger off, but like with his jabs I'm doing this for his own good.) He got a teddy bear out of it though. 😊

CocoapuffPuff · 04/12/2024 11:12

Me too. Nobody cries alone in my presence. Emotions from others are overwhelming. GW is the total opposite. Other people's emotions don't even register I suspect. Different autism presentation or is he just a knob?

SapphireSeptember · 04/12/2024 17:32

I'd go with 'just a nob'. There's making people feel uncomfortable then there's indecent assault.

EmotionalSupportPotato · 04/12/2024 19:56

It's quite upsetting people keep dragging autism into this discussion

CocoapuffPuff · 04/12/2024 19:58

GW claimed it himself, didn't he? You might note that most posters think he's full of doodoo....

I think it's different as a man can physically hurt a woman in a completely different way to a woman hurting a man.

it's that phrase : "Men are afraid women will laugh at them, women are afraid men will kill them". It is is so true, sit any group of women down from any age and any background and every single one of them will have a story to tell ranging from cat calling and so called banter through to the worst of crimes. Horrible things happen to men too but usually at the hands of other men.

billysboy · 05/12/2024 07:05

His ghost writer has come out with some more claims about his vile behaviour and assault
lets hope that’s the nail in the coffin for him and his vile ego

Totally agree. It's not an acceptable justification or excuse for sexual harassment and assault (and I say that as someone with autism and a husband and children with autism)

Those last two paragraphes:

I did, in fact, meet Gregg Wallace the once. It was back in 2010, when I interviewed him and John Torode prior to a new series of MasterChef. I remember it not because it serves as an excellent example of my craft but because of the kerfuffle it caused when it came out and I was accused of making a quote up. (I had not.)

The quote in question came when we were talking about what we could never eat. Could you eat dog, I asked them. “If I were somewhere that ate dog and I was served it, I would give it a go,” Torode said. Wallace, I then asked, have you ever eaten dog? “Never,” he said, “but I’ve been out with a few.” When this came out in print, his people contacted my people to say he’d never said it. I still wonder what he thought my tape recorder was all about. An affectation? For decoration? A fake, to make me look good? The message my people then got back from his people, once the truth had been established, was that his girlfriend at the time had read it and was not best pleased. What a gent, trying to make me carry the can.

Wow.

So he tried to deny he'd done something which was on tape because he got caught out by his girlfriend.

I do wonder where the decision to issue an apology over middle class women of a certain age came from in that context.

It also speaks volumes about how much he thought he could get away with even with recording devices around.

Interesting.

What a disgusting weasel. The thing about these men and their cheeky chapppie ways, is that they never the oppressed ones they claim to be.

you, a grown man, established his career, tried to force a female journalist to jeopardise her own integrity so that you don’t look bad ‘didn’t piss off your girlfriend’? He’s a bully.

He did get away with it! That was 14 years ago.

The bosses, or whoever, kept making excuses for him and letting him get away with it.

That Newsnight interview with his ghost writer last night! 😳 I'm sure that's the final nail. She was physically uncomfortable talking about it, especially when quoting his exact words, but her notes were contemporaneous because she wrote an email to her friend at the time, because she was just so shocked by his words and his behaviour. Victoria Derbyshire was suitably disgusted.

ExitPursuedByABare · 05/12/2024 18:02

Truly shocking but not surprising. It basically confirmed everything else that has been reported.

WeavingShed · 05/12/2024 18:29

I can't see him working again in this country after that Newsnight interview. There was no doubt the ghostwriter was telling the truth. There's the contemporaneous email to support it and corroborating evidence from her brother who witnessed GW touching her bum.
It was notable that Helena Kennedy KC was interviewed after the piece who said the ghostwriter was an utterly convincing witness and she had no doubt that she was telling the truth.

WhatterySquash · 05/12/2024 19:30

Ewwww the gory details are absolutely gross. I wonder what his poor wife thinks / is going to do?

EvilRingahBitch · 05/12/2024 19:53

It's an absolute textbook example of how not to handle a crisis.

He had three choices
a) Deny (only works if there isn't loads of evidence and really convincing witnesses)
b) Minimise and play the "anti-woke" card (only works if your target audience are that way inclined and you don't do it by slagging off your target audience)
c) apologise, say it was a long time ago, you regret it, you now understand what you've done wrong, you're sorry for any hurt and upset caused, and you're suffering from psychological condition X for which you're seeking treatment.

He's managed to combined a and b in the worst possible way when the right answer for the situation was clearly c.

Even before all these stomach churning revelations came out I could never fathom what this man's appeal was in terms of entertainment let alone as a self proclaimed "ladies man". His presence and "cheeky chappie" persona always put me off watching anything he was in, I always found him self-reverential and conceited with a grating screen presence. I know that wealth and a level of fame can make some women find men like him alluring or at least make some women ignore the crass and ego driven crap that they come out with, but double G Gregg always seemed singularly unappealing prior to the lid being lifted on bin of his true self .

Dimpliy · 05/12/2024 21:57

I feel like I’ve been living under a rock because I had no idea of the rumours about him. I don’t watch MasterChef or Strictly or much BBC stuff at all really so I’ve seen very little of him. From what glimpses I did get when channel flicking, I didn’t get the creepy vibe, but I like to think
I’d have spotted it if I’d watched full episodes.

We'd stopped watching Masterchef because we found him too irritating. Apart from anything else, he brought nothing of value to it through his judging, and I think a PP mentioned how galling it was to see him sitting there at the 3 star restaurants chowing down. Watching, say, Ed Gamble on GBM (or the guest judges each week), you get a sense that he has a palate, is really thinking about what he's tasting, and brings some insight to the process, without claiming any professional cooking knowledge at all. Whereas Greg just shouts 'YUMMY' and rewords whatever the chef judge has said.
