Apologies if there is already a thread on this?

See attached screenshots

Looks like people have really been waiting on his downfall 🤭🤭

(Obviously, I know it's a serious matter for those who've been victimised by the guy, not being dismissive of them)

Just seems like he's really pissed off his fellow celebs

The fact is that among even quite decent men sexist, unwanted bollocks directed at women won't register or it will be easily dismissed as "banter". Because it doesn't bother them much they won't see that to women it is patronising, misogynist and at times threatening. It's a sort of blindness and it is dying hard.

HarrietBond · 02/12/2024 19:58

I'm not sure it's even dying. My teenage son is very alive to prejudice in most forms (many would call him woke) but he rarely spots misogyny. It just doesn't register in the same way.

MumOfOneAllAlone · 02/12/2024 20:08

Not to derrail the thread, just something I saw today

Dean Mccullough made listening to radio one in the afternoons impossible for me. Surprised the BBC acted tbh.

I think that the previous few comments ring true - people don't notice a misogynist until he's pissing off other people

I'm A Celebrity's Dean McCullough faced 'bullying claims at Radio 1

I'm A Celebrity star Dean McCullogh faced allegations of 'bullying' from production staff on his afternoon Radio 1 show earlier this year - before being shifted to a graveyard 5am slot.

Never even heard of him before I’m A Celeb but I’ve found him to be quite selfish and spoilt/entitled on that - sleeping late, conveniently disappearing when it’s time to do his chores, playing the victim when he gets called out on it. Alan Halsall comes across as lovely (which a dickhead could interpret as weak/pushover) and I wonder if Dean would have reacted the same if it had been someone like Barry who’d said what Alan said to him.

100%, alan is just mature and decent and dean thought he could take the piss

Which is the mark of the dickhead. When Danny told him flat out that he couldn't have his bed (or something like that) i was so happy. Dean definitely wouldn't have tried that with him or Barry

He's also like a comment which reads:
"Isn't it a double standard to drool over Nigella Lawson, who has built a career on licking a spoon seductively, while flinching at Gregg's 'sexist' banter."
He really doesn't get it does he?

What a prat.

The difference between people drooling over Nigella is that THEY are drooling over her, she isn’t drooling over them. He doesn’t get it because I think he genuinely thinks he’s a stud lothario.

When he was being interviewed about the women he met on Twitter (like his current wife and a previous wife) his coy embarrassment at being told he shagged his way through Twitter was beyond cringeworthy. He thinks he’s a sex symbol.

Strange that Richard Osman has come out in support of GW, recording podcasts on how great he is!? There doesn’t appear to be many other people in TV supporting him.

LunaNorth · 02/12/2024 21:29

I liked Richard Osman a lot more before I started listening to his podcast. He comes across as a bloviating contrarian, who loves the sound of his own voice and is actually a bit boring. And he says ‘by and large’ too often.

I can imagine him taking Gregggggg Wallace’s side, just because.

Blimeyitscold · 02/12/2024 21:31

He’s on Masterchef: The Professionals right now. He said he loves the breast (of the chicken).

Osman hasn't "come out in support of GW" in the sense you mean.

The podcast mentioned upthread was released several weeks ago, just talking about a ludicrous lifestyle article about "My Saturday". RO said something along the line of "he was on House of Games and he was lovely".

There hasn't been an episode of The Rest Is Entertainment recorded since the GW story broke - I'll be fascinated to see what they say when the new one is released tomorrow morning.

Interestingly I saw a clip from Great British Bake Off yesterday and Pru Leith was asking a contestant "can we talk about your Beaver". Now they had made beaver cakes but it was said very much in the way of a double entrendre, Paul and the other 2 were pissing themselves. It carried on with a "oh I think you beaver is quite dry, I don't like dry beaver" type comments.

Nobody is hanging Pru Leith or Noel out to dry.

It's hard to put a finger on Why Greggggg's stuff feels worse (but I think it does). Maybe because some reports of it are off camera comments where there's no need to have those sort of conversations? It's not gags for TV? But I do think all TV shows need to be careful......even if the contestant on GBBO was OK with it (and she might have been too scared to say she wasn't) it sets a poor tone about what is and what isn't acceptable.

I’ve just seen the clip. I think you’re right it feels very different. It’s more camaraderie and no one is the butt of the joke.

Compare it to the way Gregggg told Katy Brand ‘I’ll munch the living daylights out of your little tart.’ It felt aggressive and KB was shocked and incredulous and said that could have gone very badly.

Hmm. I think their response was worded very carefully...

Where can I find the story re Paddy McGuinness and the apology from Popbitch? I’m obviously not googling the right things.

Putmorewoodontfirelad · 02/12/2024 21:47

What was the story about Paddy?

Thanks for clarifying that, I don’t listen to RO’s podcast so just assumed he was talking about the recent events when it was mentioned upthread.

IAm16StoneHalloween2024 · 02/12/2024 22:01

Thanks @LunaNorth

Do you know where I can find the ‘carefully worded’ apology?

HarrietBond · 02/12/2024 22:41

Here:

You may have seen news reports that Paddy McGuinness was suing Popbitch. As Carter Ruck since confirmed, that's not true. Popbitch is not being sued, but we also fully accept what we've been told by Paddy's team - that he made no appearance at L'Enclume while on his Children In Need bike ride, and that we got this one more than a bit wrong.

I have never worked in tv but I know people who have. I'm not talking about known names of people in front of the camera.

Many (not all) of them have been more or less loud, extrovert, arrogant, hyperactive and quite a few of them really like stirring things up - in a sense of spotting someone getting a bit too pissed at a party and encouraging them to do something really stupid embarrassing.

I guess GWs behaviour wouldn't stand out so much in this type of full-on working environment, which could be why it it was allowed to go on for so long.

I have been thinking about this too, but I think on GBBO it gives the impression that the joke is being told as an inclusive thing so they can all have a laugh together - in other words, the way most people use humour, with no under tones or veiled threat. Whereas with Egg Wallace he is speaking AT people and his so-called humour is not designed to be as way to bond and join with others, it is something he does TO other people. And whenever I have been around men like this, there is always that thought of what they might do to you if they got a chance.

LunaNorth · 03/12/2024 04:27

I think genuine jokes are intended to amuse everyone. Greggggg’s comments are intended to amuse only himself.

Sorry if I caused any confusion with my original post - the episode I was referring to was issued in Feb this year.. I half-remembered that RO said GW was nice so went back to re-listen to it yesterday

Can I just ask, in the long list/timeline of complaints which has been reposted a few times the first person mentioned is Kirsty Wark? And she was mentioned again by someone else. Is that actually correct? Or should it have said Kirsty Allsop? Would appreciate if someone could clarify.

So, now previous staff members are mentioning inappropriate touching, eg the cliche brushing past someone and touching them with his groin. In GW's case, he then allegedly said "oh, you liked that, didn't you?" 🤢
And another who helped him with an item of clothing, only to notice that his trousers weren't fully pulled up and his public hair was visible...
