Apologies if there is already a thread on this?

See attached screenshots

Looks like people have really been waiting on his downfall 🤭🤭

(Obviously, I know it's a serious matter for those who've been victimised by the guy, not being dismissive of them)

Just seems like he's really pissed off his fellow celebs

Thanks. I hadn’t seen he’d been accused of physical stuff too. Initially it was all about comments. That’s a sexual assault allegation so hopefully the police will investigate.

First of many? One wonders 🤔

IAm16StoneHalloween2024 · 02/12/2024 09:20

I think there's something potentially physically threatening about Greg that I don't sense at all with Paul and Noel, and certainly not Pru! They seem (in a good way) completely bland and non threatening whilst Greg does not.

I'm not accusing him of being physical (I've not actually read the link just posted) but just a 'sense' of it.

GW certainly appears v arrogant and lacking in empathy, sensitivity and humility.

But there have been examples of Noel’s “humour” over the years crossing a line.

HarrietBond · 02/12/2024 09:43

I think it’s really hard to define a difference, especially when it’s just words on a page. Because if both people are in the game then the same thing can be offensive or not. That’s probably obvious but at times like this when everyone is talking about it and citing other things they saw that everyone was fine about, that subtlety massively matters. Greg’s comments have obviously way too often been one-sided, unwelcome and not felt like a joke either.

I find Noel a challenging watch sometimes.

Twonewcats · 02/12/2024 10:01

One of the other differences is that the GBBO has a different atmosphere than MasterChef. It's fluffier, more lighthearted, has always been a bit oo-er missus.
Additionally, the contestants are in on the joke.
In Katy Brand's case, she's a comedian and won't be shocked by much. She has said she viewed it as banter, but it was still inappropriate and misplaced at best.

MC is presented in a much more serious/highbrow type of way, and sexual innuendos are not expected or welcomed.

If Paul H walked out of his dressing gown wearing a sock on his cock, or if Noel stared at a contestant and said he'd much the living daylight out of her tart, then we'd all be shocked.

HarrietBond · 02/12/2024 10:07

We would re the sock for sure. I think the eating out comment does fall into the ‘on paper, what’s the difference’ place that makes it so tricky though.

I also think it’s really telling that even now, the complaints we’re hearing about are overwhelmingly from the celebrity contestants. Still very little from production crew or, tellingly, the non-celebrity contestants who presumably still feel the power issue if they speak out.

IAm16StoneHalloween2024 · 02/12/2024 10:22

@EdithBond Actually scrap Noel from that comment. The last time I saw GBBO was before it moved, and before Noel.

Greg W has now apologised for his middle class women video!

murasaki · 02/12/2024 14:14

Too little too late, Greg.

You ggurning misogynist, we see you.

Also the atmosphere on GBBO was created by a team with equal status M/F judge team and two women presenters both with a "friend at the table" style.

I may be misremembering but innuendo was more "joking with" than "joking at " or if there was a target it was one of the judges (as in the soggy bottom example). That seems to be mostly still the case although I would agree with PP saying they need to watch that line carefully. It would be depressing if its has been tainted by the same on set behaviours.

Baffling that he didn't realise people would be offended before he made it.

fucking hell, what next? Finding god-a la Russell brand?

HarrietBond · 02/12/2024 14:29

He didn't care. Someone, somewhere, has pointed out how damaging it was so self-interest now swings in favour of apologising.

Absolutely!!

I was imagining the call or meeting where his PR peeps must have been desperately trying to make him see sense.

I think it ended something along this lines of, "I know Greg, these women are a nightmare but you need to say it to shut them up!" 😂

Haha that ended Bear Grylls Scouting Career ...

SidewaysOtter · 02/12/2024 15:21

Translation: the lawyers/crisis PR team have now wrestled his Instagram password from him and are going for the "acted under pressure while the balance of his mind was disturbed" angle (because he's a victim here Hmm ), along with a desperate apology.

Nope, Greg. We still all recognise that, when backed into a corner, you came out swinging at "middle-aged middle-class women" in a truly nasty fashion. You've very effectively shown the real you and torpedoed your claims that the allegations aren't true.

You're still a misogynistic dick and you can still fuck right off.

I definitely want one of those 'middle class woman of a certain age' t shirts for Xmas. I shall start hint dropping to DP this evening.

Hmmm.. I have just relistened to The Rest is Entertainment podcast episode where they talk about Gregg Wallace's Saturday.. Richard Osman says he was lovely on House of Games and all the crew etc loved him... can this be true? I am so so so hoping that RO is not part of the crew turning blind eyes to this type of behaviour 😮🙏

bluegreygreen · 02/12/2024 16:36

Oh no - would be really unhappy if RO was just one of that crowd 😟

Me too... I flipping love him, he normally calls out bad behaviour though so maybe he was just genuinely unaware 😭

Interestingly I saw a clip from Great British Bake Off yesterday and Pru Leith was asking a contestant "can we talk about your Beaver". Now they had made beaver cakes but it was said very much in the way of a double entrendre, Paul and the other 2 were pissing themselves. It carried on with a "oh I think you beaver is quite dry, I don't like dry beaver" type comments.

Nobody is hanging Pru Leith or Noel out to dry.

It's hard to put a finger on Why Greggggg's stuff feels worse (but I think it does). Maybe because some reports of it are off camera comments where there's no need to have those sort of conversations? It's not gags for TV? But I do think all TV shows need to be careful......even if the contestant on GBBO was OK with it (and she might have been too scared to say she wasn't) it sets a poor tone about what is and what isn't acceptable.

I think if you make a cake that looks like a beaver you can expect beaver jokes

This is it, everyone is part of the joke on bake off whereas with greg he's forcing it on people whether they want to partake or not

The Instagram story has gone now, but the Matt Hampton Foundation put out a message to say they while GW was wearing a Matt Hampton branded sweatshirt, they don’t agree with his opinions and do not condone his behaviour.

Matt was a rugby player who suffered a spinal injury. His foundation helps people who have also suffered spinal injuries ie George Robinson from Sex Education. They live locally to each other.

Richard Osman used to be Creative Director at Endemol Shine, now Banijay, who make MasterChef. I have no way of knowing if he was ever aware of any of the reports but if it the higher ups did know then his was the kind of higher up job that people are now looking at.

@snapdragontoadflax i'm
not sure pop bitch an be relied upon any more. they recently published a totally untrue story about paddy mcguiness and then massively backtracked and issued an apology. the story had been total fiction

Hmm. I think their response was worded very carefully...
