Apologies if there is already a thread on this?

See attached screenshots

Looks like people have really been waiting on his downfall 🤭🤭

(Obviously, I know it's a serious matter for those who've been victimised by the guy, not being dismissive of them)

Just seems like he's really pissed off his fellow celebs

So Greg's strategy is to go full anti woke, reform voter against these accusations?? Let's see how that works for him.

What’s really bizarre is that he was given an MBE in 2022 when these accusations were circulating. Can only assume nobody at the bbc thought to warn the Palace.

The same palace which spent millions protecting their own nonce? And which historically has spent heavily on protecting and concealing the men's sexual shenanigans?

TonTonMacoute · 01/12/2024 10:27

The comedian Helen Lederer, 70, who appeared on Celebrity MasterChef in 2006 and 2009, said: “Gregg’s behaviour had been normalised on the show. The TV culture at the time allowed for him to be this sort of larger-than-life figure and I’m not condoning it, but I know some people think that sort of ‘banter’ is funny … It’s us who’ve changed and evolved — rightly so — but perhaps he’s baffled by the backlash, as I never saw producers on the show challenging language when I was there.”

This comment from Helen Lederer is very interesting I think - it's from The Sunday Times piece today.

He's got away with his vile, sexist caveman shit for decades, but now the tide has turned.

I would like to think that JT at least tried (and would think a lot more of him if he did) but if that was the case you'd think he'd have publicly stated it by now.

That's very fishy about the sources and Lisa Faulkner. Don't they already do cooking shows together on ITV.
Personally I liked the low key Lloyd Grossman MasterChef version but I think the BBC would view it as being outdated now.

Edited

Would you continue to work with and enable a predator, not just in a one off but over many, many years?

That is what everyone does when they look the other way whilst predatory bullies pick their victims. I can see someone persuading themselves on a single occasion or two - self protection is a powerful instinct.

However this has been going on for so long with complaints over such a prolonged period that everyone with any power in the scenario is culpable - be they the production company, the BBC or the other star talents.

I’m convinced they’re in different rooms in this discussions! They’re always filmed separately. Not that they’re shouting at each as a result of course!

Yeah it looks like they don't film together

For me it's clear john has been distancing himself from greg for a while

I also think, his (deserved) downfall is because people just don't like him, rather than his disgusting behaviour

I reckon he’s got a whole new career now though. Depressingly.

Give him a few months he'll be a presenter on GB news

And he's clearly directing some of his ire close to home . Lisa Faulkner is 52 for a start

He's about 24 hours away from turning on john and lisa

Buckingham Palace is as bad the BBC for turning a blind eye to these men (Andrew/Mountbatten/Saville/Peter Ball/Van der Post)

NotMeForBakeoff · 01/12/2024 10:32

'Middle class women of a certain age' my arse! 🤬

He's really limited in his thinking, isn't he, if he can't work out why that is?

Notthisapple · 01/12/2024 10:33

He's got away with his vile, sexist caveman shit for decades, but now the tide has turned

Exactly. Saying it's 'banter' has enabled him to get away with it.

At best, he genuinely thinks he's hilarious and flirty 🤢

At worst, he gets a kick out of making shocking, disgusting comments to women and there's an element of control/enjoying reactions as a sort of compulsive fetish.

Either way, he's not learned boundaries or doesn't care about them and he definitely doesn't care that he's made a lot of women feel uncomfortable.

His PR should be 'oh my god, I'm mortified, I realise my humour is now not appropriate and I apologise'

Not 'middle aged women are pathetic!'

C8H10N4O2 · 01/12/2024 10:34

I find it interesting that pretty much every broadsheet/tabloid and other source is leading on new or different complainants. The BBC is leading on the whiny shit's instagram claim that its "all the nasty wimmin out to get me".

Elvisgotitrightaboutchristmas · 01/12/2024 10:36

The feedback in general seems to be "John Torode is a lovely, professional, knowledgeable man" and "Greg Wallace is a complete cunt" I think it speaks for itself and doesn't really need John Torode to speak out.

WhatterySquash · 01/12/2024 10:49

Re Torode, it’s a bit unfair to expect him to have walked from his own high-profile job just because the Greggggg was a misogynist arse. It should have been GW that lost his job and as PPs say, we don’t know if JT did complain or point out the issue. Publicly stating he didn’t get on with him or words to that effect suggests he was frustrated and pissed off.

We wouldn’t expect a woman to leave her job in the same situation or to be tarred by association for not changing the situation. It wasnt like his bosses didn’t know - they clearly did and it’s on them.

RedToothBrush · 01/12/2024 11:14

This isn't actually about wokeness and political correctness in the media.

This is actually about legal obligations in the workplace by an employer to employees.

Hence why a legal team have been brought in to look at this.

So I guess Gregg is intending to go self employed and full incel. Cos he won't be employable.

It needed him and the other senior talent/execs in both the production company and the BBC to speak out and deal with it years ago. Its plain there have been many complaints over a prolonged period of time both from contestants and staff represented by BECTU.

I would imagine Torode's PR are in overdrive telling him to keep silent and let other people say "it wasn't him" to get a pass on enabling the behaviour for a couple of decades.

Blimeyitscold · 01/12/2024 11:33

Gregggggggg’s new career will be as one of those talking heads on C5 documentaries when they want a military expert and Greggggggggg has been playing Call of Duty again.

Uricon2 · 01/12/2024 11:55

At the heart of most of these scandals seems to be a toxic culture of protecting the "talent" (pushing the term rather in Gregggs case) and until that changes and until there is an effective, joined up system where reports are taken seriously it won't stop.

As he seems to have declared class war, I have no problem calling him, to paraphrase S. Morrissey

"..a jumped up (barrow) boy
Who never knew his place"

Not charming, though.

lonelywater · 01/12/2024 13:19

being a combative arse its not surprising Wallace is not going down without a fight. Even so....Pulling the Shipman defence (proportionally, I only killed a few of my patients) does nothing to address the substance of the complaints and just confirms he aint all that bright.

Absolutely. Good article on this topic here.

Do you not think assuming someone is autistic because they act like a fucking major creep might be doing a disservice to people who are autistic? If I see one more person excusing vile behaviour because of autism I'm going to scream (quietly because I don't want to wake my baby DS up.)

Does anyone remember the thread with the OP with an autistic brother and autistic husband? Her DH hated her DB because he'd been violent towards her, and she was sick of it herself, and she had a new baby. She still got people telling her she was horrible! Including someone who flounced from the thread. Men are excused anything and everything enough as it is. Throw in autism and you're terribly mean for being upset you got pushed down the stairs. Drives me potty. (Yes I'm autistic, I'm well aware of my limitations. Funnily enough I've managed not to sexually assault anyone or push them down the stairs.)

To sum up:

2011 Kirsty Walk incident (not clear if she made a complaint at the time)
2012 Emma Kennedy complaint about groping
2013 Katy Brand on MasterChef - awkward moment broadcast (she didn't put in a complaint)
2014 Gregg Wallace on Strictly Come Dancing - awkward inappropriate moment broadcast. Aliona Vilani seems to have made it clear just how much she dislikes him.
2014/5 Georgia Harding complaint about behaviour on Eat Well for Less
2017 Aasmah Mir complaint
2018 Wallace officially warned about his conduct on Impossible Celebrities.
2022 Dawn Elrick complaint on behalf of a number of production staff who were told they had to waive their anonymity and report individually
2023 Nestlé bans Inside The Factory from their premises due to Wallace's behaviour
2023 Wallace does controversial C4 hoax programme about 'genetically engineered human meat'
2024 Everything comes out publicly.
Today Wallace posts a picture of a gingerbreadman in cream... (Doesn't suggest he feels remorse) He's also like a comment which reads:
"Isn't it a double standard to drool over Nigella Lawson, who has built a career on licking a spoon seductively, while flinching at Gregg's 'sexist' banter."
He really doesn't get it does he?

There's also various popbitch articles that I don't have dates for, but which actually name him, suggesting they were happy for him to go legal on them...

This looks like ANOTHER car crash for the BBC.

Missed this one off the list. From 2008

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14144249/I-warned-TV-bosses-disgusting-Gregg-Wallace-16-years-ago-ignored-claims-ex-MasterChef-hopeful.html

Former contestant Dr Kate Tomas, 42, said she complained about Wallace's treatment of her on the BBC show in 2008, claiming he 'sexually harassed' and 'bullied' her, but 'nothing was done'.

And

Dr Tomas revealed on TikTok that Wallace allegedly 'commented inappropriately' after she 'got a flush of red' across her chest during judging of dishes.

She said: 'He was like 'what's that?' motioning to my chest, and I look down and I can see I've got a flush of red across my chest.

'I feel so self-conscious and want to cover myself up because he's staring at my f t* – all of which is being filmed.'

She accused Wallace of being a 'racist piece of s*' after he allegedly imitated an Asian accent in front of an Indian cameraman.

Dr Tomas, who was married to an Indian at the time, said Wallace also 'bullied' her for wearing sindoor, a red dye on the hair parting signifying her married status.

The article also says
while a lesbian ex-worker on Channel 5 show Gregg Wallace's Big Weekends said he pressed her on the logistics of dating women.

That's another two to add to the list.

I warned TV bosses about Gregg 16 years ago but they ignored me

Fortunately his ego is big enough it won’t get dented by the fact that nearly every thread there has ever been about him is negative.

@RafaistheKingofClay Also Mumsnet is predominantly full of women (middle aged and otherwise) and now thanks to him we all know what nasty meanies they are!
