DH wouldn't dance to our special song

Last night, at a bday party, our special song comes on. We are standing in a group, I look at DH with my most alluring face, say "our special song, let's dance", but he didn't respond. It was humiliating.

Has anyone else ever experienced such rejection and what do you think should do now?

OP posts:
TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 23/11/2024 18:06

That was a real anti-climax for me, OP - I've never even heard of that song.

Hitherto, I was trying to think of the most poignant romantic songs that I could and had narrowed it down to only three realistic contenders: Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep, Hev Yew Gotta Loight Boy or The Marrow Song.

Westofeasttoday · 23/11/2024 18:20

Having a ‘special song’ doesn’t make it mandatory to dance to. Your over sentimentality and potentially embarrassing approach and action are the point here not your partwrs reaction. Rejection? Man you have lived a sheltered life.

RetroTotty · 23/11/2024 18:20

I find 'I've got a brand new combine harvester' quite alluring. Have you seen the price of those things?

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 23/11/2024 18:22

It's gotta be A Wombling Merry Christmas. Both alluring and festive.

Vitriolinsanity · 23/11/2024 18:24

I've got you as Pheobe coming on to Chandler OP.

Are you bendy?

GonnaBeASuperSaver · 23/11/2024 18:29

As I say to my infant age children , use your words!

Dh let's dance
Ah dh it's our song come on

turbonerd · 23/11/2024 18:34

Oh god, I would have LOVED it if you had burst out on to the dancefloor to Misirlou, full Pulp Fiction style! 😂😂😂

Would have laughed almost as much as from this thread 😅

It’s a cracking song! Will Get a whirl at the next party I’m on

januaryjan · 23/11/2024 18:34

Have you asked your DH - Why he didn't succumb to your obvious allure and dance with you?

JayJayEl · 23/11/2024 18:34

marmitesarnies · 23/11/2024 16:50

Song was Misirlou - the face, well, 💋just full of allure 😍

Hahaha. I was already laughing, but the song choice is the cherry on top! Coupled with your (what sounds like an incredibly sexually charged) allure, how on earth could your husband not chomp at the bit to engage?! Absolutely the most crimson of flags, and you deserve better.

clickclack8 · 23/11/2024 18:35

marmitesarnies · 23/11/2024 16:24

Ha ha thanks for your engagement - I have had proper laugh reading replies in my hungover state on sofa! 😂

Was just a light-hearted post, the legend that is Sarah Hadland / Stevie was indeed my inspiration for the "allure"!

Sure OP, sure!

LaMarschallin · 23/11/2024 18:59

Sure OP, sure!

I don't think it matters if the OP was really light hearted about it originally or not.
She's taken all the teasing really well and styled it out beautifully - I'm not sure many would have coped as well with some of the things said here.
I know I wouldn't.

autienotnoughty · 23/11/2024 19:10

Did he literally ignore you? Because I find that pretty rude.

He should have said something like I'm sorry I don't feel like dancing and given you a hug instead

maras2 · 23/11/2024 19:11

My DH recently put on his 'alluring face' when he was a bit pissed at a party. and they played 'our special song'.
Special song was 'Black Dog' by Led Zeppelin that we used to cut a rug to in 1971.
As we're now in our 70's his dribbly, drunken allure face didn't really have the effect that he was hoping for as I looked lovingly back at him with my best Death Stare.
Other party goers, much younger, must have thought that there was something wrong with our facial muscles/motor skills as they bought us more drinks and offered to get us stuff from the buffet.
When we got home, we asked Alexa to stream Led Zeppelin 2 and held hands while arse dancing, sitting together on the settee. Smile

Artistbythewater · 23/11/2024 19:18

I hope his stuff is sitting in bin liners in the rain outside and you have kicked this dreadful man to the kerb op. The fact he didn’t grab you by the scruff and spin you senseless on the dance floor is utterly unforgivable! An absolute deal breaker. LTB!!

Artistbythewater · 23/11/2024 19:20

I have seen more than one of these special moments end up in a back of an ambulance! So maybe he did you a favour. Who knew spilt wine turns a dance floor into a death trap 💀

Pickandmixmood · 23/11/2024 19:24

Kudos to you OP, you’ve taken these responses in good spirit.

You’re a good sport OP! Hope your DH dances with you next time

Was he aware that you were making an alluring face? Maybe he thought it was just a bit of trapped wind.

Love this.

@LaMarschallin

What on earth do you keep trying to post?* * And why, since it keeps failing?* * If it's Disco Duck you were successful with your post at 17:09 and, if that's all it was, it's really not amusing enough to keep making all that effort.

For some reason you seem unable to see @Amarige 's posts. It's not one post that has failed but different clips of 'supposedly' cringy songs - I say 'supposedly' because I actually like most of them!

You're right - I can't.
Don't know why Disco Duck got through.
Sorry, @Amarige , I really couldn't see them. And I like a cheesey song or 6 too.

BeatsAntique · 23/11/2024 23:51

In the part of the US where I live, the guys who know how to dance (partner dance, mostly two-stepping) are always the most popular with the ladies. It’s definitely not something for the older generations.

Iamgettingolderandgrumpier · 24/11/2024 17:43

My partner is just the same and in the 40+ years we’ve been together, I can count on 1 hand number of times we’ve danced together.
Remember 1 occasion when we’d been married about 3 mths and were at a party when my favourite song came on. He refused and what was more embarrassing was some woman (who had just started going out with our friend) started making comments about dancing with me, ‘make her day’ type stuff. Really Pi**ed me off, so after that don’t even bother asking. Some men just don’t dance!!
