gives you the ick?

It seems very popular on Mumsnet. Do you stay in the ones you slept in or shower and put on fresh ones?

I’m fine with it. There’s context to it for people. We do Christmas Day just me, DH and 2 x DC. What’s the point in getting all dressed up and prissy for no reason? We treat it as a relaxed family day of fun and being together. I don’t need to get dressed up for that.

Needmorelego · 22/11/2024 10:55

@Parker231 the darker ones will be better - any accidental gravy drips won't show up 🙂

Thankfully no cooking involved. No one particularly likes the traditional turkey dinner so we have a cold buffet.

Rhaenys · 22/11/2024 11:02

I would love to do this but I would be too embarrassed.

TheMauveBeaker · 22/11/2024 12:11

Absolutely not. On any day of the year.

RabbitsRock · 22/11/2024 12:12

I never wear pjs & only bought some when I was going into hospital.

nightmarepickle2025 · 22/11/2024 12:16

I'd hate to spend a whole day without getting dressed and leaving the house for a walk, would make me depressed.

Needmorelego · 22/11/2024 12:29

@Parker231 although will there be Christmas chocolate......get the dark 😁

Needmorelego · 22/11/2024 12:31

@nightmarepickle2025 why? I love my flat.....all my stuff is there 😂
If I want fresh air I can open the door to the Juliet balcony.

Just as a matter of interest, where does the awful term "ick" come from?

Never heard it anywhere apart from MN>

I think it's the noise a cat makes when it's about to throw up.

It's not. It's from icky aka gross or disgusting.

icky

1. unpleasant, especially to look at: 2. unpleasant, especially to look at…

Terminally offended people give me more ick than 3 days in a row pj's could ever do. 😁

rantaroo · 22/11/2024 14:32

I have had a couple Christmases in jammies all day and come the afternoon, I felt icky. But I also couldn't see the point in getting ready and changing if we weren't going anywhere. That's why I used to love getting dressed up to go out for Christmas dinner.

I dressed up a few times being in my own home and it felt a bit wasted 😕 especially when it seems like no one else makes the effort!
This year we're at home as a family again so be nice to find something in between comfort and occasion. Like a previous poster, I'm not sure I want to sit around in sequins when I have a 4yr old & spending a lot of time sat on the floor haha

Hoping to restart some traditions even going for a walk so we have a bit more reason to get ready. I found it pretty stuffy being in all day last year.

rayofsunshine86 · 22/11/2024 14:38

Christmas is a time to get dressed up to the nines and use all the very best plates, cutlery and glassware.

Pyjamas are only for sleeping ✅

Dressed up to stay at home?

OneTC · 22/11/2024 15:26

People that wear pajamas round the home are all just shy or nascent diaper fetishists. Suspect behaviour imo

I’d better let my parents and in-laws know!🤣

Perish the thought of getting all dressed up

catmum44 · 22/11/2024 17:53

Depends on individual circumstances. My mum and FIL ran a grocers/off licence in a very busy area, open 364 days per year. Xmas day was their chill and do nothing eat rubbish (buffet bits), watch TV and wear comfies day. No visitors. Different for people that have a dinner/expect visitors.

VioletSpeedwell · 22/11/2024 19:21

Ever time someone writes jammies, I die a little inside.
