Help me like coffee

Welcometothezoo · 20/11/2024 18:31

I really like the smell of coffee.

I am 24. I tried drinking it when I was a bit younger and hated it, too strong

I've got a more 'adult' taste 😂so was wondering how to like it as I bought a flat white with no sugar from Star Bucks - loved how frothy it tasted but the coffee was a bit too strong

What type of coffee might I like?! There are so many - Mocha, flat white, Americans, etc etc I'm confused by

Sincerely, a very tired carer who does need caffeine

latte?
They are quite milky

But if you don't like coffee, you don't like coffee, surely there are other drinks with caffeine in that are more palatable to you?

CombatBarbie · 20/11/2024 18:36

I'd say latte....that's what I started on and now can pretty much drink anything.

It's a bit like wine....we start in our teens with lambrini and then before we know it you're a Pinot Gricio, Chardonnay or sauvingon blanc kinda girl 🤣

Nevergotdivorced · 20/11/2024 18:36

I don’t drink coffee only tea which I love.
I love the smell too though.
Just enjoy the smell and give it a swerve.

MissHollyGolightly · 20/11/2024 18:37

Just keep drinking it! Soon you will be addicted and love the taste. Maybe add a little sugar or sweetener to start with.

Laffydaffy · 20/11/2024 18:38

I second a latte. With sugar and/or a shot of syrup if that doesn't work (vanilla, caramel etc). I used to have sugar with my latte, which is still my preferred coffee, and then weaned myself off it.

Chemenger · 20/11/2024 18:38

A latte, maybe with a flavoured syrup? Vanilla latte is nice (if you like milk).

I tried a latte the other week as well and that tasted a bit too strong like the Flat White tasted a bit too strong as well.

Really? Friends have said this too but I just can’t stand the taste, is it true then that eventually I’ll love the taste if I just keep drink it?! Friends have said this too but I’ve always thought they were just joking but maybe not then?

Try a Mocha. Like coffee and hot chocolate had a baby. 👶

BarbaraHoward · 20/11/2024 18:40

A mocha. The sweetness helps.

I liked coffee sweets but not coffee until I went to Vietnam and tried their ridiculously strong coffee with condensed milk. Turns out milky coffee is just two mild a taste for me. I wouldn't drink a latte or cappuccino but have mochas all the time as well as black coffee, espresso and the occasional caramel latte.

coxesorangepippin · 20/11/2024 18:41

Honestly if you need convincing then don't even bother trying

You are clearly Not One Of Us

😆

Maybe a nice weak cappuccino?

Welcometothezoo · 20/11/2024 18:42

I’ve tried mochas too, good suggestion but I also found the coffee a bit strong too, definitely stronger than the chocolate taste. Only tried a mocha once though.

I much prefer iced coffee than hot coffee!

They vary hugely depending on how strong the coffee is as well as the chocolate used (and how much). Keep trying!

TheShellBeach · 20/11/2024 18:43

Ask them to make you a one-shot latte.

It was a Costa one that I tried.

Start with a Mocha which has chocolate in it. Then try a latte or a cappuccino, both of which are basically frothy hot milk with the merest hint of coffee.

If it's the caffeine you want, those of us who have to avoid caffeine for medical reasons are told also to avoid coke and tea.

And you can buy caffeine tablets still, I think. (Even though they aren't a patch on the ones that got me through Saturday morning university lectures).

oopsupsideyourheadisayoopsupsideypurhead · 20/11/2024 18:44

@Welcometothezoo ask for one shot when you are in a coffee shop or explain you want it weak and if you're buying instant and can get hold of it mellow birds is very mild. If you find it bitter half a teaspoon of sugar can help or flavoured syrups.

mynameiscalypso · 20/11/2024 18:44

I just stick to eating tiramisu. I've never been able to drink coffee despite liking the taste.

So true 🤣 if you think latte are too strong then you're really not going to like any as latte are the weakest

Googlyboox · 20/11/2024 18:47

Promise I'm not a coffee snob, but Starbucks might be your issue here - their espresso tastes burned and acidic to me.

Download Best Coffee app and find a "proper" barista. Order a half shot oat flat white, which should taste sweeter and frothier than what you had before. Use this as your gateway drug!

bebanjo · 20/11/2024 18:48

Some people drink unbelievably weak coffee. If you’re drinking coffee in a cafe ask for a 1/2 shot. If at home start with the tip of a spoon full and work up. Add suger. But if you really don’t like it, drink tea instead.

Welcometothezoo · 20/11/2024 18:49

I’ve only tried a Starbucks once and that was a flat white, the other times it has been Costa that I’ve been trying but it’s always tasted too strong and I’ve never liked the taste.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 20/11/2024 18:51

Just give up.

Tea has caffeine.

I'm 60 and I still can't abide coffee although like you I love the smell.

(Coffee snobbery amuses me.)

Edited

Coffee Snob is back: I would rather go without a coffee than drink Costa. A poncey aeropress or drip coffee usually has a sweeter taste, maybe that could be a go-er.
