I hate it!

He has lots of lovely clothes, new coat this winter, but always pulls this horror out. A hillbilly, scruffy, donkey jacket.
I realise it’s up to him what he wants to wear and he’s a grown man and it would be wrong for it to mysteriously‘Disappear’

But…would you make this coat mysteriously disappear?

My dh had a jacket he'd bought about 10 years ago and insisted on wearing it every winter....until this year. He got it out of the wardrobe and I said " don't you think your better than that now your 60?"
He put it in the bin himself lol. A lesson to be learned and a bit of kidology goes a long was lol

PeachyPlums · 21/11/2024 19:49

My (now) ex husband had a vile jumper (this is the early 90’s) It had grey and cream loopy wool and a pvc collar with a wooden toggle button 🤣 I tried to throw it out in a bin bag but he found it so I pushed it up an open fireplace (not in use) and “disappeared” it)
I still giggle about it now

Justrestingmyeyes1 · 21/11/2024 20:15

That monstrosity would be the first thing on the bonfire I’m about to have 🤣

MevBrown · 21/11/2024 20:24

Can I have it?!?

Bowies · 21/11/2024 20:36

I expected it to be terrible and also quite like it, but depends on his overall style. Personal taste unless it smells bad or something…

PorridgeEater · 21/11/2024 20:42

It would be wrong to just dispose of his stuff - you probably wouldn't like it if he did that to you. Have you told him how you feel about it?
Could you buy him a new coat for Christmas?

RestlessMillennial · 21/11/2024 20:52

I quite like it but it would help if the husband looks like Robert Redford!

Scotland32 · 21/11/2024 21:23

Is his name Delboy?!

LIJ · 21/11/2024 21:25

I've just seen the new Ebay advert and thought of this thread.

@BillyDavey take a look. Couples can have a joke without it be controlling.

Grammarnut · 21/11/2024 21:56

No. If he wants to wear it that's his choice. Tell him how nice he looks in it and leave it at that. Making it 'disappear' is hurtful and deceitful, so don't.

You shouldn't lie to your DP. That is deceitful.

Ugh! Ghastly apparel I agree, but I don't think quietly 'losing' it would be a decent thing to do. Just hope that he tires of it, encourage him gently to wear clothes you prefer, but try to accept his decisions with grace when he chooses to wear his preference over yours. You could perhaps find something to wear that he can't abide on you and then suggestan agreement whereby if he ditches the sheep thing you will match him by giving up wearing the article he dislikes.

Dogsbreath7 · 21/11/2024 22:25

It could be put underneath loads of OTHER coats so it isn’t his go to. Or ask him not to wear it when out with you or insist on walking at some distance.

Does he also wear socks with sandals?🙄 Or shorts in winter? Maybe count yourself lucky😄

Didimum · 21/11/2024 22:26

I quite like it. It’s vintage.

Lyoness1953 · 21/11/2024 22:42

Cowboys wear jackets like that. Take it to the dry cleaners. you might be amazed by how it looks when it’s clean. 🤷‍♀️

whiteroseredrose · 21/11/2024 23:00

No. DH has a couple of awful jackets but he likes them.

Unfortunately I'm the one that has to look at him in them but it is his choice.

ThisCandidHiker · 21/11/2024 23:02

Send him over … could be a sexy look if he styles it out … I’ll help

LouH1981 · 21/11/2024 23:12

Lol, I can see your point. It’s definitely not to my taste either. Sending thoughts and prayers OP 😂😂

CrowleyKitten · 21/11/2024 23:23

I don't like it.
my husband has plenty of clothes I don't like.
I have things he doesn't like
but neither of us are controlling enough to get rid of things behind each others back, and we're comfortable enough to say "I hate that hat/jumper/etc" if asked.
but we wouldn't DREAM of damaging each others property, or laying down the law about what the other wears.

my husband is still in the habit of showing me something he's thinking about buying, and I'm honest. if I don't like it, I say "I don't like it, but it's not up to me. it's up to you"
I just buy stuff without asking his opinion, because, likewise, what matters is if I like it or not.
