If your Dh owned this coat, would you make it mysteriously ‘Disappear’

I hate it!

He has lots of lovely clothes, new coat this winter, but always pulls this horror out. A hillbilly, scruffy, donkey jacket.
I realise it’s up to him what he wants to wear and he’s a grown man and it would be wrong for it to mysteriously‘Disappear’

But…would you make this coat mysteriously disappear?

No...I would feel on edge all the time, if my possessions started disappearing and I found out dh was responsible.

Itiswhysofew · 20/11/2024 15:59

No, but I wouldn't walk beside him when he's wearing itGrin

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 20/11/2024 15:59

I quite like it 🫣 I have Covid though so not quite trusting my brain lol. I do think though that if he loves it there’s not a lot you can do

Anywherebuthere · 20/11/2024 15:59

How would you feel if he did that to your favorite/most comfortable clothes? Or if he got rid of something you really treasured without your permission?

TTPDTS · 20/11/2024 16:00

Can you spill something on it? Tell him his bum looks big in it?

Perhaps slowly stitch it tighter around the seams (shoulders and waist!) until he thinks it doesn't fit anymore?

Merrymess · 20/11/2024 16:00

He might not like some of the clothes you wear. Might not be so funny if he chucked them out.

mathanxiety · 20/11/2024 16:01

I'd borrow that for myself.

Overall, though, please don't make it disappear. You probably wouldn't like it if he did that to something you loved.

ByHardyRubyEagle · 20/11/2024 16:01

It’s a bit Delboy-ish, but each to their own!

pandarific · 20/11/2024 16:02

I’d probably tell him I was doing a charity shop clear out, go through his wardrobe and put anything worn in a bag, including the jacket. I’d ask him to check the bag and take out anything he wanted to keep and HOPE that he took the jacket out too.

If not, I would tell him it’s getting raggy looking. I’d look for a newer / nicer version, link him to it and suggest getting him it as an upgrade for Xmas or something.

Cantbearsedwiththosepeskyelves · 20/11/2024 16:02

@TTPDTS 🤣🤣🤣

No, I'd gently suggest he takes it to dry cleaners, though.

On a completely different note, I don't know why but those coats always look like they smell bad.

No idea why, but every time I see someone wearing them I associate them with a bad smell.

Perhaps way back in my childhood someone smelly used to wear one? 😳

Back in the 70s Afghan coats were popular and they were very whiffy when wet. The coat in OP's picture is vaguely similar but probably a different material, so I doubt it would have that particular livestock aroma about it.

I can't see the problem with the coat but I suspect many here would refuse to go out with my husband whose preferred winter garb is umpteen layers of t-shirt, half-zip fleece, gilet, zip up hoodie etc, all topped off with a flat cap. He seems to have something against coats.

MessyNeate · 20/11/2024 16:04

Some of these replies 😂

I'd be tempted OP. DH has these hideous Jordan high tops which he paid £100+ for. I think they are the ugliest shoes in the world. I'd prob put them on a toddler not a 43 year old man 😂

But as previous poster says. They are in the wardrobe, out of sight out of mind, DH has worn them three times in two years maybe Grin

lightsandtunnels · 20/11/2024 16:04

haha I would definitely lose it OP or have a terrible accident with a bottle of bleach or food colouring perhaps?

Many years ago, maybe 15 years plus, my DH had a vest that was absolutely vile (a t shirt type vest not one you wear under a shirt) and it used to come out every summer. For me, a vest on a man is an absolute no no and it looked awful and gave me the ick big time. He's still looking for it ...

Bluevelvetsofa · 20/11/2024 16:05

My DH insisted on buying the most hideous shirt during lockdown. I expressed my distress, but didn’t tell him not to wear it. He quietly slid it into a charity bag a few weeks ago. He wore it once.

Boing98 · 20/11/2024 15:47

No, because I'm not abusive or controlling.

It was clearly meant tongue in cheek. Answer to the question, yes. It's an ugly garment.

Cantbearsedwiththosepeskyelves · 20/11/2024 16:06

It doesn’t smell and isnt dirty, just looks it and scruffy!

I'd really want that coat to disappear! Obviously, I wouldn't do it, but I'd really, really want it to. DP has some shoes that I would cheerfully throw on a bonfire but I instead I grit my teeth and try not to think that he looks as though he has an orthopedic condition each time he wears them.

Same here, I quite like it and I too am unwell! It does look very warm.

pictoosh · 20/11/2024 16:08

Mmm...dunno. I'd have to see it on. I'm not usually convinced by this style of jacket but I'm not anti either. Depends on who's wearing and what with.

muddyford · 20/11/2024 16:10

My DH has a very warm long winter coat with a hood that's moderately waterproof too. But I found it abandoned in the cloakroom at work 22 years ago and brought it home after some weeks and asking all my colleagues. He has other coats but drags out this manky item every winter. I suggested I take it to a charity shop (textile bin...) But he clasps it to his manly bosom and refuses to part with the damned thing.

professionaloverthinker · 20/11/2024 16:10

@Boing98 ffs....bit dramatic!!

Breadcat24 · 20/11/2024 16:11

it looks warm but i'd give it a clean.

Delphigirl · 20/11/2024 16:12

All I throw out of DHs are socks with absolutely no heel and toe left and boxers in tatters. I would like to throw out lorroloads more. You can’t do it. You might hold it up and ask him if it is time to bid farewell to it and if he agrees chuck it in the bin before he changes his mind…. I reckon that works about 1 time in 4 so worth a go

Mammma91 · 20/11/2024 16:12

It would accidentally fall off the coat hanger, hanging out the wardrobe for his favourite of the 3 cats to discover, therefore he will never take it back from said cat. It has to be the right cat that gets attached to it though, so it tugs on his heartstrings too much to take it back. We too have a coat of horrors, which ‘mistakenly’ made its way up the loft with the Christmas decorations last year. I was pregnant at the time .. baby brain and all that. 😝😂
