If your Dh owned this coat, would you make it mysteriously ‘Disappear’

I hate it!

He has lots of lovely clothes, new coat this winter, but always pulls this horror out. A hillbilly, scruffy, donkey jacket.
I realise it’s up to him what he wants to wear and he’s a grown man and it would be wrong for it to mysteriously‘Disappear’

But…would you make this coat mysteriously disappear?

I’d give to someone with a cat or dog, it would make a cosy bed.

usernamesareharddamnit · 20/11/2024 15:46

No, because that would be nasty. I understand the temptation though.

Boing98 · 20/11/2024 15:47

No, because I'm not abusive or controlling.

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 20/11/2024 15:47

I would undoubtedly want to make it disappear, but no I wouldn't. I don't ask my husband's permission/approval of what to wear (and certainly don't look an oil painting all the time LOL), so I grit my teeth and bear his worst bits.

Except when he comes downstairs in e.g. checked trousers and striped shirts. Then I send him back to get changed. 😂

WonderfulUsername · 20/11/2024 15:47

Would I try to control what clothes another adult chooses to wear?

No of course not.

I'm surprised you have to ask.

username358 · 20/11/2024 15:48

Del Boy? I wouldn't make it disappear, no.

Lentilweaver · 20/11/2024 15:49

My DH has about 10 really old scruffy shirts. I am tempted to throw them out but I don't.

Luckymoo · 20/11/2024 15:49

Yabu I’d be furious if dh threw away or hid things from my closet.

ClaudiaWankleman · 20/11/2024 15:49

I’d put it away at the back of the wardrobe and position all nicer coats in front of it.

Cantbearsedwiththosepeskyelves · 20/11/2024 15:49

@Boing98 Oh ffs, slightly dramatic…I’m not abusive or controlling, I just have aversion to this coat

ChimpiestoftheChimps · 20/11/2024 15:50

I wouldn't do it but I'd want to... much like my DHs beret which often gets pushed to the bottom of the hats/scarves basket. It was found again recently and tragically appears to have been a delicious snack for a moth. (hasn't stopped him wearing it though ffs).

Cantbearsedwiththosepeskyelves · 20/11/2024 15:50

@ClaudiaWankleman I do that 😂but he digs it out

ShabbaRankz · 20/11/2024 15:50

It will come back into fashion one day. No id not make him get rid of it. Thats wrong

microwoods · 20/11/2024 15:50

I actually quite like it 😂 but yes I have thrown a couple of bits away before, namely scruffy trainers that he won't get rid of!

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 20/11/2024 15:50

Men do seem to get attached to (fearsome) ancient garments. DH also has many lovely clothes but favours a rather grubby Aran sweater. ( I dread how it would dry…)

He doesn’t get any dinner when he is wearing it though.

Singleandproud · 20/11/2024 15:50

No, I'd call him 'Del boy' everytime he wore it though.

Allfur · 20/11/2024 15:50

It looks quite cosy

DecayingRelic · 20/11/2024 15:51

oooh that looks warm I would wear that

Lentilweaver · 20/11/2024 15:51

I just grit my teeth. He WFH so has definitely got much scruffier. I have a deep aversion to a couple of his shirts but I wont throw them out ( though I could probably get away with it).

I agree! Not abusive or controlling OP. I've "hidden" an awful item of clothing my husband wears. He burst out laughing when he found it. I also stopped wearing a coat he didn't like so fair is fair!

Topseyt123 · 20/11/2024 15:53

No. I wouldn't make it disappear and nor should you. I'd be beyond furious if my DH did that to something of mine. 😠

I don't see what's wrong with it. It's not a style I would personally choose but if he likes it then it's surely fine? I actually quite like it.

Personally, I really don't care that much about the clothes or coats that my DH wears and he barely notices mine either. That's how it should be.

Bigcat25 · 20/11/2024 15:55

No. We don't lie to or deceive each other. My husband would be furious if I deliberately and sneakily got rid of his stuff.

WonderfulUsername · 20/11/2024 15:56

On a completely different note, I don't know why but those coats always look like they smell bad.

No idea why, but every time I see someone wearing them I associate them with a bad smell.

Perhaps way back in my childhood someone smelly used to wear one? 😳

BigDahliaFan · 20/11/2024 15:57

We've developed a Code which basically goes, I think it's time for the disposal ceremony...for anything that has had it's day. He does the same to me.

Ponderingwindow · 20/11/2024 15:58

we keep our most active use coats by the back door and other coats in a closet. Dh’s awful coat got put in the closet when I was putting away some other coats. For him it was out of sight out of mind. It’s now at the very back of the closet and he hasn’t touched it in years.
