If your Dh owned this coat, would you make it mysteriously ‘Disappear’

I hate it!

He has lots of lovely clothes, new coat this winter, but always pulls this horror out. A hillbilly, scruffy, donkey jacket.
I realise it’s up to him what he wants to wear and he’s a grown man and it would be wrong for it to mysteriously‘Disappear’

But…would you make this coat mysteriously disappear?

It's not great and is giving driving instructor imho, but no OP, you can't destroy someone else's belongings. Sorry, but you know that really.

SabreIsMyFave · 20/11/2024 16:56

YABU. How ridiculous, trying to control what your husband wears! Imagine if the shoe was on the foot and a man was trying to control what his wife wears? If my DH 'hid' something of mine away so I couldn't wear it, I'd lose my shit. But he's not controlling and manipulative and abusive so he would never do that.

Also @Cantbearsedwiththosepeskyelves you really shouldn't have posted on here if you only wanted opinions and views that support your ridiculous idea. Of course some people see this as controlling, (and some see it as abusive) because you're trying to control what your DH wears. I'm sure you will say you're being 'light-hearted' though. 🙄

That recent? It has a 70s vibe for me, worn with shoulder length hair and flares, kind of Bay City Rollers era but without the tartan.

Yes, a 70s/early 80s vibe. OP, maybe a bit of reverse psychology. Buy him a pair of vintage Farah Action Slacks and a skinny fit big collar shirt. Show him a picture of a male catalogue model from the period looking into the middle distance and tell him you like the look so much you wanted him to have the whole ensemble. It might cast a seed of doubt on it.

PuddingAunt · 20/11/2024 16:57

i have disappeared clothes... they were literally falling apart, beyond repair. Still upsetting... even though the owner agreed with hindsight that they looked like a scarecrow.

@Boing98 Oh ffs, slightly dramatic…I’m not abusive or controlling, I just have aversion to this coat

But this is abusive and controlling behaviour.

Avocando · 20/11/2024 16:58

I quite like it 😂

I have a pair of silver boots that DH hates and every time I wear them he calls me Ziggy Stardust.

Doesn’t stop me though

People have different senses of humour. You only have to go on Tiktok and read the comments to see the amount of people who don't get satire.

WillowTree33 · 20/11/2024 17:00

Yes.

Angelofmycoins · 20/11/2024 17:03

@Cantbearsedwiththosepeskyelves is it real sheepskin or not? That would make a difference.

Maray1967 · 20/11/2024 17:03

ClaudiaWankleman · 20/11/2024 15:49

I’d put it away at the back of the wardrobe and position all nicer coats in front of it.

Yes, I think I’d do this. I would make it harder to find ...

rickyrickygrimes · 20/11/2024 17:04

Only if he has complained about looking like a scruffball. Then you can ‘advise’ him, but even then I would never sneak anything out.

DH frequently complains about looking / feeling rubbish in his clothes. I sympathise (he is short and wide - not an easy shape for men to shop for), i suggest, I advise etc. Then he goes straight on wearing the same scruffy, poorly fitting, faded, unflattering clothes - and keeps on complaining 🙄. I lose the will to live. He wears this one ancient navy blue fleece every single day - then complains because he’s got no smart coats (he doesn’t buy any, and he expects to only need to own one coat for all purposes). Or he’ll go to the opposite extreme and buy like a really formal, fitted wool coat that doesn’t fit his lifestyle or his clothes style - and it’ll just hang in the cupboard, unworn for years until it’s given away.

i wish he’d just adopt a uniform ie cotton / wool trousers, white T-shirt, wool / cotton v neck jumpers in his favourite colours, a couple of pairs of leather trainers, and look smart all the time without actually having to think about it.

Loub1987 · 20/11/2024 17:05

I like it! Clearly my taste is off 😂

Back in the 70s Afghan coats were popular and they were very whiffy when wet. The coat in OP's picture is vaguely similar but probably a different material, so I doubt it would have that particular livestock aroma about it.

I can't see the problem with the coat but I suspect many here would refuse to go out with my husband whose preferred winter garb is umpteen layers of t-shirt, half-zip fleece, gilet, zip up hoodie etc, all topped off with a flat cap. He seems to have something against coats.

This made me laugh 😆 my DH is the same - he bulks himself up with loads of t-shirts, a massive hoodie and two or three wool jumpers over it so he’s all puffed up and can barely bend his arms… makes him look ridiculous! I wish he would just wear one of his many coats. I think it makes him feel manly to not ‘need’ a proper coat 😂

Doggymummar · 20/11/2024 17:08

But, yellow robin reliants are a bit nippy this time of year on the way to the market. But don't worry , this time next year he'll be a millionaire.

“Giving driving instructor” 😂 💀

Katemax82 · 20/11/2024 17:09

I used to have a jacket like that 😂

sweeneytoddsrazor · 20/11/2024 17:09

We would call that a sheepskin jacket round here.

This is a donkey jacket

TooMuchRedMaybe · 20/11/2024 17:10

I like it, but I have quite a thing for hippie-ish clothes.

Leatherette shoulders😆

Autumnweddingguest · 20/11/2024 17:11

I did actually help an almost identical coat disappear from DH's wardrobe. But to be fair, it wasn't his, it was his father's. DFiL is about a foot shorter than DH so the coat didn't fit him and never would. When I asked if I could take it to the charity shop he said no, because it had belonged to his dad. His dad is still alive and well and DH can rarely be arsed to drive and visit him now he's old, so I didn't feel sentimentality over his old car coat deserved wardrobe space.

Mine is obsessed with being able to remove layers when he gets hot, which he can't stand. Coats make him overheat.

WonderingWanda · 20/11/2024 17:11

It's hard to answer because my dh is way more stylish than me and this is so far from anything he would ever wear. He has never baulked at anything I've worn and I have terrible judgement so would have to bit my tongue if I hated it.

Bubblemonkey · 20/11/2024 17:11

People would be screaming abuse if someone’s husband was posting this….

Westofeasttoday · 20/11/2024 17:12

No. Just get over it.

Honestly how would you feel if he did this to your favourite coat that he hated.

Tina159 · 20/11/2024 17:12

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 20/11/2024 16:44

Just show him this and say, "I think that dog has exactly the same jacket as you."

Then he may stop wearing it...

If he looks half as cute as this then YABVVVVVU OP.

TBF it looks cosy and I'd probably wear it. I do admit to having left some of DH's clothes at the bottom of the wash basket so he can't wear them though. If he wants them that much he can wash them himself.
