Should we be worried about war

Seen a lot in the news about Ukraine using USA missiles against Russia. I've been thinking more along the lines that it won't start a WW3 and will resolve at some point without the UK getting directly involved in war. But there seems to be more and more tension and threats of an all out war recently.

Should we be worried about WW3? I haven't been prepping or anything but does make me wonder if I should start getting a few days worth of food in case. At the same time I don't want to go down the prepper hole and start getting over the top.

Both of those are frequently quoted as the only times a nuclear power has lost a war. It’s not a question of marching on Moscow. Biden has given Ukraine permission to launch a missile system supplied by the US and operated to a certain extent by the UK. If those missiles hit deep into Russia and cause significant destruction you can bet the farm this madman will consider that an existential threat. And where are all the voices now who were condemning Biden as having lost capacity and needing to step down ? If that’s really the case why have they allowed him to make this decision given that he may not have the capacity to understand the ramifications ?

Edited

The West had imposed restrictions on Ukrainian use of western supplied weapons that prevented them being used to hit Russian units in the rear, logistics and supply depots, and units forming up to advance to the front line. Russia has been free to use it's weapons (and those supplied by North Korea, etc) as it sees fit - including striking deep into Ukraine. Ukraine needed these restrictions removed in order to be able to fight effectively.

Biden's impaired decision making was in not making this decision sooner.

There are too many Putin apologists on this thread. And you're one of them.

Hididi11 · 19/11/2024 19:46

Let's be honest
Ww3 is happening already
It's just done remotely these days
UK and USA are funding what is happening in Palestine remotely
And real people are getting killed in Palestine.
Yes. A genocide.
It's been happening remotely for ages but has intensified in the last year.
Oh yeah
The UK and USA is also remotely complicit in the remote genocide in Lebanon.

Ww3 started a whole back. The media won't show you that. But when your family, friends, colleagues have lost homes, children, family, starved, burned alive in the refugee camps then you know.

Tbh I don't even blame people in not knowing. The media is more concerned about what a c** Megan markle is than the thousands of deaths in the middle east. Over 44000.
No aid allowed in either.

To add, to the person denigrating SAHMs: expect they are probably the geniuses you want in an apocalypse. I know I’d rather be in a bunker with a woman who can make a full meal out of a radioactive carrot and potentially deliver a baby, rather than a person who works in marketing.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 19/11/2024 19:47

Cyber attack is a good way of destabilising infrastructure and causing chaos allowing land invasion to happen more easily. Just a thought.

GenFair · 19/11/2024 19:01

is this still the case in the digital era we live in?

Yes. Facebook can't level your city with artillery or torture and execute your civilians.

Happyher · 19/11/2024 19:49

Mutually assured destruction (MAD) is the deterrent that’s held for decades. Russia has as much to fear from WW3 as the West does. If Russia attacks a NATO country with nuclear weapons Moscow will be annihilated within 30 mins. So will most of the Northern hemisphere. There is no preparation you can do. I firmly believe MAD will hold. I think if Russia nukes Ukraine NATO won’t respond.

The person who is bitter about sthm is probs bitter because she can't stay at home.

To all the sthm.....welldone for doing you!!!

Let's not slam others down. You want to stay at home then stay at home.

Guess what....you can even be a stay at home wife (gasp!!!!) with zero kids!!! At the age of 30!! Woop woop!!

Simple.

Atacms.

These and the UK/French missiles have already been used in Crimea, an area Putin considers rump Russia.

So people need to have a sense of perspective and calm down.

As i said earlier, Russia cannot even defeat a single nation, has used up huge numbers of men, equipment and missiles for tiny gain.

HRTQueen · 19/11/2024 19:55

Its not the war escalating in Ukraine/Russia that will set of WW3 its if China attacks Taiwan or something similar as they you will have three major wars happening

Im not worried about how it will impact everyday life apart from costs

I am concerned how long the Ukraine/Russian was will play out and also the ME but I don’t worry about my safety or safety of my family

It doesn't win wars.

You can't win the war and secure Donbas and the Crimea without boots on the ground. Drones in the sky, planes overhead, etc. are just area denial. If you can't live there, work there, live a normal civilian life on the territory, then you haven't (yet) won the war.

Unless you can imagine a new definition for "win" that doesn't involve that.

I guess real weapons are the only thing you can’t hack.

How I wish the world didn’t have crazy men as leaders.

Or instead of not thinking about it, just read the pamphlet. It has got really sensible and practical advice.

And also, we are very much expected by our Government to manage by ourselves for a week or two. And we are expected to be able to help neighbours and friends if needed. So not to waste time of those who has to help in real emergencies and not to be in their way.

They are very open with this, and this is why there are lists of what we need to have at home in this pamphlet Very easy to follow.

UK seem to either ridicule or bury their heads in the sand for some reason. I’m sure many of you would be pissed off if there was a cyber attack and nobody told you that you should have thought about having some water and food at home. You’d blame everyone else but yourself.

Tell this to our government.

TheKoalaWhoCould · 19/11/2024 20:01

Look, if there’s going to be a war we’ll probably all nuke each other to fuck in the space of days and that’ll be it. We’ll all be gone. So am I worrying about having some extra tins of beans in the garage now? Nope.

There’s calmness here.

A cold, calculating logic in fact.

Look beyond the battlefield to Washington and the Kremlin.

Look beyond the battlefield to Washington and the Kremlin.

@EverythingAllatOnceAllTheTime what do you mean?

MagicFox · 19/11/2024 20:14

She means there's a level of escalation management going on between Washington and Russia, broader than the battlefield

Ok, look.

Zelensky knows that Trump will be inaugurated in Jan. He knows that Trump will probably try to force him to sue for peace. He obviously doesn’t want that so by using Atacms now, he may provoke Putin - which means it will make it difficult for Trump to de-escalate.

Why do you think Biden is allowing Zelensky to use Atacms now?

The question is whether Putin bites, or bides his time for Trump. My guess is the latter.

That’s just a bit sad though. To expect to take full advantage of other people’s education but not care to contribute yourself. My dd is 24 and I’d be disappointed if she did nothing when she is perfectly able to.

But, that’s another discussion.

Hididi11 · 19/11/2024 20:24

Btw I don't have the luxury of not working. I need to work to pay bills and actually quite enjoy being at work.

But if someone isn't working and has an income coming in from whatever then good for them!!!

You don't have to work to be valued.

Everyone is free to do what they want.

In reality you’re not really a valued member of society though (if you are young and fully able obviously). By your family, but not much else. A bit like the Beckham kids. Using resources but not contributing much.

And no, not everyone is free to do what they want.

I have no idea why you think the use of ATACMS is in any way escalating the situation from Zelensky's perspective.

It's a minor political escalation from Biden, but only matching Putin's deployment of North Korean troops in Kursk.

Lyannaa · 19/11/2024 20:36

Zelensky knows that Trump will be inaugurated in Jan. He knows that Trump will probably try to force him to sue for peace.

Putin started this war. It's not Zelensky's responsibility to make peace happen so stop talking as though he's the one who set off this ugly war. Putin sycophants make me sick.

Alexandra2001 · 19/11/2024 20:37

I think the idea/plan/hope of the Democrats is to put the Ukrainians in the best possible military position, US now upping shipments of shells, air defence etc to UA before Trump.

On your early statement, Putin isn't interested in escalation management, if you want that, look to Xi.

Putin looks for weakness and to sow confusion and fear, like i said these missiles have been used extensively on land Russia considers its own.

Outoftheways · 19/11/2024 20:47

So how do you think this shitshow will actually end?

HRTQueen · 19/11/2024 20:49

Honestly more positive for Putin than for Zelensky

There is a more important war going on that potentially can have a far bigger impact to more people
