To have the dog in the bed with us?

I bathed her this morning for the first time in well over a year as she rolled in poop. This was the result… she sleeps under the duvet with us every night.. how am I not ill? 🥴

Wet dog smell does not bother me. A nappy will make me heave.

Well that’s the difference isn’t it. The nappy I find goes away much faster. Even if it stinks. The wet dog smell sticks into the fabric of the car. Much like someone smoking in the car.

All things I’ve done. I’d rather buy a car from a child person over a smoker or a dog owner. Dog owner over the car smoker only just.

Last time my dog had a bath, was after he fell in pond 9 years ago.

I genuinely think that is the last time my own dad had a bath too. He is vile.
Humans can be gross too 😅

BondStreet · 18/11/2024 21:41

I think sleeping with dogs is really quite gross. Dogs are dirty animals, I just can’t imagine it.

Ew all you dog cosleepers... you've turned your bed into a dogbed. You sleep in a dog bed. That is rank!

Bet their immune systems are better than yours!

Wellingtonspie · 18/11/2024 21:16

Surely you must just smell like dog all day long.

Someone stood near me in a shop the other day and they just reeked of dog. 🤢 Obviously they were ‘nose-blind’ but it was so horrible. 🤮

Onlyvisiting · 18/11/2024 21:41

My current 2 dogs are very short-haired and dirt just falls off them so they are generally really clean.
And even if they weren't, I'd rather have a gritty bed with good snuggles than a clean lonely one!
And they asleep under the coveres because they feel the cold, but also I much prefer it to being pinned down by the on top the duvet.

Where would I be without a sausage shaped foot warmer in the winter months?

Same here!

I am sure they did not care. Dogs can enhance our lives so much.

A gritty bed. Come on. Some of you must be having a laugh here

Agreed! I couldn’t care less if someone thought I smelt of dog. My dogs are my best friends.

wafflesmgee · 18/11/2024 21:43

Barf.
Gritty bed.

I think these people have better immune systems because they smell so bad nobody goes near them.

JOKE

Oh hello! The anti dog brigade have turned up to say how gross everyone is for letting their dogs sleep in/on their beds. In their own houses,

It never takes long does it… 🤣

Haha it’s not anti dog to express an opinion that it’s a bit rank.
Dogs are great, but I assume people that let dogs sleep with them are general quite smelly / dirty people.
Or slightly oddball single pringles who cosleep with animals due to the lack of a fellow human being to feel close to.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 18/11/2024 21:44

wafflesmgee · 18/11/2024 21:27

That is absolutely disgusting.

About 25 posts in! I was expecting it to be a lot less.

My dog is very restless so he sleeps on/in a duvet on the floor, but he's allowed to come and sit in while I have my morning tea.

Tina159 · 18/11/2024 21:44

wafflesmgee · 18/11/2024 21:33

Just out of interest, how often do you wash yourself? Why do you assume your dog accumulates magic dirt and bodily excretions that is somehow different to your own?! Yuck.

Well tbf I guess dogs don't wipe their arses and run around outdoors without any shoes or clothes covering them? Also most people shower a lot more than dogs get washed.

doodleschnoodle · 18/11/2024 21:44

Ah MN dog-owner bingo. Nose blind, disgusting, wet dog smell. Keep em coming.

The best thing to do, OP, is to ignore the bath ever happened and continue happily as you were with your snuggly pal. And dark sheets Grin

My DP sleeps in my bed with me and my dog.

I don’t think they were even aware of it. In my experience most people with dogs don’t think either they or their homes smell bad. The ‘nose-blind’ thing is so real!

Like when the whole bus is empty but that stinky person just has to come sit next to you like a shitty homing pigeon.

But some of us have been dog owners. I now have cats. They are also not allowed upstairs. Also smell when wet and don’t say cats don’t get wet. One of ours plays in the fucking water bowl bastard 🤬

Why would they care? I don't. My dog nearing the end of her journey, and I am going to fucking miss the hell out of any smell she makes right now... from her general smell to farts.

Snap! 😅

Talking of bus, someone got on the bus the other day with a dog that stank so bad you could smell it on the top deck the moment they got on. Honestly it was horrible.

Onlyvisiting · 18/11/2024 21:46

Children are objectively gross in many ways (hands in pants then on your face, incontinent, vommity, nose picking etc) yet people don't bat an eye at sharing beds with them. I get not everyone will want a pet in their bed and that's fine. You don't have to have one. Doesn't make it inherently disgusting just because you don't like it.
