To try and find some good teens books that don't push the LGBTQ agenda?

Trying to get some books for my daughter who is in S1, books are either too young or they all have a blurb that alludes to the main character's sexual preferences. Would love it if anyone could recommend something your pre-teens, or young teens are reading that don't include those topics? They already get enough information about it in school and the internet.

I had a friend with body dysmorphia and ED. It sounds like hell on earth, she is slim and beautiful but thinks she is fat and ugly. It's so sad.

I'm glad I responded to this thread because it's important to learn about other people's lived experiences.

It's a horrible thing. So sad, whole lives ruined by dysmorphia. They have to voice train too because HRT doesn't make their voices higher so it can absolutely tear them apart.

You're such a good person for actually listening. It's something most people don't even think about because they might never (knowingly) meet a trans person. You've restored my faith in humanity. Thank you.

@ChocolateTurtles thank you for listening and taking on board what's said.

Things like misgendering can cause such trauma for transpeople.

Having gender neutral toilets (as in, enclosed single cubicles, not even open plan toilets) is a contentious issue on MN so just be careful, you might get all sorts jump on you now

This is a very sad post. My parents had no idea I was gay, nobody did and it was lonely. I read so many books (I can assure you they were mostly had heterosexual agendas and didn't turn me). I wish my mum had allowed me to feel I could be what I wanted and I also wish there had been books with gay characters back then so I felt less alone. Teenagers should be allowed to see all sorts make up the world.

Exactly. The idea that having gay characters in some books now is part of an ‘agenda’ is fucking ridiculous. It is just representation as is having black characters, or more female heros…
I’m gay, not a single gay character in ANY book I read, everything single relationship Inread was heterosexual… it didn’t make me straight. Any more than children now reading about a character with 2 mums or a boyfriend isn’t areas of a girlfriend is going to ‘turn’ gay.

The main thing we’re in danger of is creating a generation more tolerant of differences…
