I'm a big fan of Gemma Atkinson. Always had her down as a young mum. Yet i just read she is turning 40 tomorrow!!!

I'd be with you OP if it showed you how times seem to fly by.

I actually think it is sadder than strangers can carry on bullying and pushing onto other women their thoughts and won't accept the truth.

Everyone looks their age because we are that age. But societal pressures will mean that someone can be 30 but to someone else looks what they imagine 25 to be. Can also be they look 35. It's not that difficult.

No, not desperate at all. I don't actually care what age someone else thinks I look. Why on earth would I. It makes zero difference to my life. I use moisturisers so my skin is cared for and feels nice. Don't care about anything else. I happen to have good skin and no wrinkles but I expect they will come.

Gemma looks absolutely amazing and she keeps herself in great shape. She also has a great personality.
But she definitely doesnt have it all..I turned on the toddler club for dc one day and omg my ears at her singing 🤣 (lighthearted)

I also think most people who are "stunning" in their 20s will look good all their lives really.

I read this an awful lot on MN - people who haven't had kids ageing better than those who have had kids. Surely if ageing is predominantly due to genetics, it wouldn't matter whether someone is a parent or not?

Wrinkles aren’t the full picture anyway. I’m 57 and don’t have wrinkles on my face, but I look every single one of my 57 years. My ‘scaffolding’ has started to collapse and my face has changed from a sort of elongated oval into an oblong. Like Spongebob SquarePants🤣 My mum had fantastic skin, despite a lifetime of no sunscreen and eventually the almost inevitable skin cancer. In her eighties she needed a skin graft due to a squamous cell carcinoma and the dermatologist commented on her very youthful and wrinkle free skin. In fact the skin graft had to be taken from her neck as the preferred site (just beneath the ear lobe) was too taut. But still withal, she looked very much like a woman in her eighties.

She looks good for 40, I'm 43 and no way near in the same shape.

I like the fact she has a terrible singing voice , but still sings in front of others, it's inspiring.

It's refreshing that singing is for enjoyment, rather than only for those who are talented.

You told her to 'tell you the truth'. That is at odds with your post just now.

It is only women that push for this 'how old do you think I look?' nonsense and it is women who are asked. You asked for a reason. No need to say what that was.

I questioned earlier in the thread what a woman of any set age looks like. There is no benchmark other than the arbitrary comparisons that women make for themselves, comparing themselves favourably (or unfavourably) with women in the public eye. It's very sad, we should stop doing that.

Yes I do see your point but it would make me turn it off and avoid the show tbh. But then again a lot of kids shows are annoying!

I didn't say it was wrong if that is what women want to do fine , just that 40 is older than usual to be having babies and it is. Ask most people and 40 will be seen as being on the older side. Medically, 40 is ancient. Pregnancies in women over 40 are often more risky. It's fact. You seem to feel that i am personally attacking you but I'm not. Again, It's just fact.

This poster NEEDS someone to say 'of course you look 10 years younger than you are hun.' In their head these people are thinking 'what the F? She looks her age! Why wouldn't she?'

And you're right @LyingWitchInTheWardrobe it is only women who are desperate for people to say they look younger than they are, and only women who come on here and say 'this person and that person said I look like I'm in my mid 30s even though I'm in my 50s!' Fact is, no WAY do they look in their mid 30s if they're in their 50s. That person is either taking the piss, or lying to be kind, or they are terrible at guessing ages!

@SabreIsMyFave the reason I asked was because I was buying moisturiser. I was interested in what the shop assistant used and impressed as she looked really well with what she used. She then told me her age and how long she'd used it. No deeper than that.

Some of you are really coming across as spiteful and bullying. Some of you I know of old and I am surprised at you. Wouldn't have had you down as being bitchy.

It's not an "achievement" of course but it is a fact that some women (and men) look younger at a specified age and some look older. Some people work at it and for others it's genetic.

Fact is that lots of people of women have babies in their 40s. Maybe you just don't know any. Even if you just read threads on MN you would know that.

How can you possibly say that based on one post? Nobody else is taking it as seriously as you are! It can be mere idle curiosity. It doesn't matter whether or not you look your age, and I think things like your character, attitude, how you dress etc all affect that - the fact remains that what's on your birth certificate is your age, like it or not!

I've never asked anyone what age I look, but I've been told quite a few times by people who know me but didn't know my age who said I look younger when they find it out. It's a compliment, which I take with a pinch of salt!

I'm 40. I don't like when people say

"oh my God you can't be 40" to me.
Or.
"Oh my got I thought you were 30".

The insinuation behind it is

"I can't believe you are that extremely old age!"

I would like if someone didn't gasp and say "you don't look 40 " to me.

I LIKE being 40. I feel great!!

She looks great but not unexpectedly youthful for 40 imo. It's around the age of my peers and plenty look good. 40 isn't old.
