Why the capitals for Scotland?

The fireworks have caused hearing loss, the poster is shouting and hasn’t realised.

and this is why there should be a ban on them being for sale. public displays only. it’s obvious because of a few idiots not knowing how to behave we can’t have nice things

Grumpyoldblonde · 14/11/2024 00:00

We've had fireworks for two full weeks until last Sunday night. 14 nights with a terrified dog and noises going on until past midnight.

I'd ban noisy fireworks, the colours are beautiful to watch but the bangs add nothing to the experience IMO.

Do we need more people attacking the emergency services with fireworks, setting them off along streets and into peoples houses? Planned public displays are fine, and pet owners can plan around them. There is no need to sell them to the public. The mess left behind in local beauty spots around here has been awful.

girlofsandwich · 14/11/2024 00:04

I agree, it's can be very distressing for people and animals and I don't think that's worth a bit of fun. I wouldn't mind if the bit of fun was a fireworks show that lasted a specified amount of time but where I live they have gone on for 2 weeks over halloween, beginning when it's not even dark yet!

spottedinthewilds · 14/11/2024 00:05

I agree!

A mare and her foal escaped near here last November, terrified by fireworks. They were then both mowed down by a car. Horrific.

ClairDeLaLune · 14/11/2024 00:05

Quiet fireworks exist. So just ban the loud ones. To me the joy in fireworks is what they look like. I don’t need any other senses stimulating at the same time. The bangs are completely unnecessary imo.

Caerulea · 14/11/2024 00:06

Ban for public sale, probably yes.

Ban from use entirely? Absolutely not.

Silent ones only? No, but have the option & official displays can decide which they use - I'd hazard a guess at which are more popular.

Where I am there are very few displays & we don't have a month long of random fireworks being set off by bellends - but I imagine it would drive you mad. It would me & I LOVE fireworks.

I'd also not limit to one night for the 5th - it means ppl miss out with only one opportunity. Only one place locally did them on the 5th this year & that was great cos I was working the weekend so couldn't take my kids. Tuesday I had a lovely evening out with my kids, D'il', her sister & my grandson - for his first proper fireworks display!!

As for dogs, yes mine are not keen (one gets quite cross) but they get much more upset by the RAF training above us with low, fast flying & the occasional sonic boom which is absolutely terrifying! Not to mention the coastguard helicopter. Thunder scares the crap out of them too.

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 14/11/2024 00:06

I would be happy to ban fireworks and just have organised displays. What actual joy do people get from watching shit ones randomly banging in their garden?

London was a fucking nightmare from Diwali onwards with banging at random - it was so loud and the fireworks I saw people letting off were just…wholly unimpressive. The impact on wildlife and animals too. Not to mention the hugely increased impact on the emergency services. It just isn’t worth it. Just ban the fucking things. They look shit anyway.

Crunched · 14/11/2024 00:09

I love fireworks but yes, I think they do need to restrict sales to people with appropriate facilities/safety awareness. My DDad letting off Catherine Wheels in the back garden was fun in the 80's, but we are all more aware of the dangers and the upset to animals now.

You're a man aren't you. Rarely see lack of empathy like this from women. When I was a kid I'd be crying about this type of news for days, never gave a fuck about fireworks. Your kids are probably little sociopaths tho.

Gosh are you really this selfish in real life? I fear for your children with this warped attitude you have.

Enough4me · 14/11/2024 00:14

I have no noise- scared animals or people in my life and love fireworks. However, I'm completely in agreement with you op. It's time to acknowledge that the damage to people and animals (particularly wild and outdoor animals) is too significant to ignore. I'd vote for a ban.

Why do you have the inability to spell correctly simple words, yet everything else is perfect? Almost as though the ones you’re choosing to misspell are typical slang spellings. Odd.

This is the email from Edinburgh Zoo.
Red panda update from Edinburgh Zoo

We are sad to share the loss of Roxie, our red panda cub.

Roxie had recently lost her mum, Ginger, but was responding well to specialist care from our expert team and was feeding independently.

Very sadly, she choked on her vomit on bonfire night and our vets believe this was probably a reaction to fireworks. Roxie had access to her den but the frightening noises seem to have been too much for her. We are also concerned that fireworks cause stress to other animals in the zoo.

Fireworks can cause fear and distress for pets, livestock and animals in zoos, so it is essential that the UK government tightens restrictions. We support calls from animal welfare charities to ban the sale of fireworks to the public, with only light displays being permitted at organised events.

We are asking visitors, supporters and members like you to contact your local MP and MSP and support the petition delivered to the UK Government earlier this month which called for tighter restrictions on the use of fireworks and was signed by more than a million people.

——

My poor dog is still petrified. I wish they could be restricted to just official events and sales banned. I have a family member who grew up in a conflict zone and they’re a nervous wreck this time of year too.

Are you a wind up?

A troll poster?

You cannot spell.

You lack empathy.

You're an idiot.

Yes they’re on the wind up. They like the bangs of fireworks, innit.

And this is the type of person I referred to in my post. They have absolutely no concept of how fireworks affect others and refuse to think about the damage they do wot wildlife, pets or humans. 🙄

Reporting you. You're clearly a wind up poster looking for attention.

Or you're just a very selfish, self absorbed, entitled prick.

Enough4me · 14/11/2024 00:23

Fireworks are 20 minutes or less of 'fun' on repeat across multiple areas which harms animals and some people. It's not worth it. Surely drone shows in dedicated areas are the way forward?
