So they’ve had two red pandas die in a short space of time? That’s incredibly sad.

caringcarer · 13/11/2024 23:32

It makes me so angry. Fireworks were going off yesterday here and not just one or two. They went on for about 5-6 minutes. They start on Nov 1st and Nov 12th we still them. There should be a law saying only 5th November and no other days.

Fireworks shouldn’t be on sale to the general public. That doesn’t mean you couldn’t still have proper licensed events in appropriate places. There would still be noise but it would be predictable and contained. Banning them for sale to the general public would avoid the week+ of fireworks going off at all hours, being launched at police, fire services and businesses and sold on to children.

OliviaRodrighost · 13/11/2024 23:36

It’s disgusting. I live in Edinburgh and there were a bunch of really horrible incidents with gangs of marauding men/boys causing havoc with fireworks etc. There was a really horrific video where a firework was put through an innocent family’s letterbox and you can see an explosion through the window. Terrifying. The sooner they are banned the better.

Maybe we should ban red pandas being stuck in a zoo in Scotland which is entirely not their climate and a miserable existence for them

My thoughts precisely.

Lalaloveya · 13/11/2024 23:39

Makes me sad to think of the terror faced by babies and children getting
bombed in Gaza for the past year. With nothing to protect them other than a flimsy tent. The trauma must be beyond belief.

nocoolnamesleft · 13/11/2024 23:39

My personal feeling is that fireworks should only be available on sale to individuals with an appropriate licence to run organised shows. But then I did once have a young thug throw a lit firework under my car as I was driving out of work, so I may be biased.

JMSA · 13/11/2024 23:41

I would just ban fireworks. They cause more trouble than they're worth. They can also be an excuse for scumbags to go on the absolute rampage, placing huge unnecessary stress on the emergency services. I work at a secondary school in a city; due to our proximity to a deprived area where there is total carnage every Guy Fawkes, the Council ordered us to leave the school building by 4pm. Afterschool provision in the primaries was either cancelled or cut short, I can't remember.
In my opinion, it's ridiculous that this particular day of the year is even still a thing.

twilightermummy · 13/11/2024 23:42

One dog collapsed and died around our end from the stress that the fireworks caused and another had a stroke.
It wouldn't be so bad if there was just one public event per locality on bonfire night however, they've been going off since Halloween here. I don't know how people afford them as they're so expensive and they are always a bit crap really.
With so much dog ownership and obsession now, I'm really surprised there hasn't been more of a call to end them. It really put my dog off going on walks 🙍

ObieJoyful · 13/11/2024 23:43

I saw a silent firework display, set to music, in Italy. It was absolutely stunning.

I usually hate fireworks because the noise makes me really anxious. I enjoyed this one so much though.

There were complaints about a local display because silent fireworks had been sent by mistake. If they’d stuck some music on, I think it would’ve been a hit.

HermoinePotter · 13/11/2024 23:43

Ah it was just a red panda wasn’t it? Who gives a fuck? 🙄 I do.

MN is full of posters who simply post for attention a lot of the time. They must get some sort of warped joy posting shit.

Fireworks should be banned, I never understand why some people get joy out of setting off things that bang and light up the sky for a few seconds. Just buy silent ones if you want to see them light up sky, anyone that sets off fireworks knowing that it affects many people and animals is selfish imo. The same goes for Chinese lanterns or balloon releases, there’s a certain type of person who has no shits to give letting off any of these things….

motherofbabydragon · 13/11/2024 23:44

all of these people that are fire work enthusiasts please explain what is wrong with limiting it to only public large displays? that way it would be for one night rather then the full month at a arranged time so it does not last all night either

I haven't seen the video but I'm in Edinburgh too.
I'm guessing it took place in Niddrie 🙄

What’s your damage, Heather? Got shares in a firework factory or something?

motherofbabydragon · 13/11/2024 23:49

They really should be November 5th only, though.

Tryna get er down to tell her wat u said

you sound either 5 or very immature. Either way, you’re boring.

Keeptherings · 13/11/2024 23:53

I agree that they should be limited to key dates, public displays, quiet fireworks ect. But I really don't know that it isn't the lesser evil for the baby panda. It would have either lived a miserable life in the zoo or the zoo would have euthanized it as they often do once the babies have attracted a few more visitors and their cuteness has worn off.

Yeah my neighbours have their own display in their back garden. I have a dog, and not once have they warned me about them.
Thankfully my dog is ok with fireworks.
