Any Amazon UK employees. Phone and car keys of employee in parcel by mistake

Hi Mumsnet,

Posting for traffic. I received a can of paint via Amazon yesterday, in it was an iPhone and a set of car/house keys.

I have managed to get the man's name and ID via the health info but. I've found him on IG and msg him but no reply.

I am keen to return this phone and set of keys to this young man.

Amazon has been useless.

Any tips for how I can contact/return these items.

Thankyou

Have you contacted the police?

Lexy70 · 13/11/2024 20:00

No I've not contacted the police yet

I've got his Snapchat from IG profile and my son has msg him too. Just hoping with the reach of Mumsnet someone might know what to do x

He won't be contactable via social media if you have his phone. I would ask the police to return his property to him. How did his stuff get inside your parcel?

Lexy70 · 13/11/2024 20:03

It arrived iny Amazon delivery of paint all bunched up in the packaging paper. It arrived last night, poor guy must be going mad. Obviously if no joy I will go to the police

Have you tried making an emergency call on the phone? You can set up a number that can be dialled by anyone that doesnt need the phone to be unlocked. It might have a spouse setup.

Irridescantshimmmer · 13/11/2024 20:15

Be careful, in case its part of a hoax just in case they are waiting to pounce on you.

fgs call the police.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 13/11/2024 20:15

Yes, as PP said, does he have an emergency contact set up on his phone, ive got one for if I get hit by a bus, but when I lost my phone someone called it to let DP know they'd found it.

Lexy70 · 13/11/2024 20:18

Good idea re the ICE. I'll have a look. There is a memory stick on the keyring that my son has warned me not to use incase it is a scam. It seems very weird to me how the phone and a big set of keys could end up in the parcel.
It is apparently a 24 year old male.
I'll take it into the police tomorrow.
Thanks

Goodness how weird! I wonder if it was some nasty prank by a colleague.

@fashionqueen0123 thats what I thought, the bunch of keys is big and my parcel only had one can of paint in it.

@Longma I hope he might check his social media from someone else's phone

Can't find an ICE it is an iPhone and under health info is his name and nothing else. It is password protected to get beyond the front screen

A phone isn’t the only way to access social media. He may own or have access to a tablet, laptop or PC.

EmpressaurusKitty · 13/11/2024 20:34

If you can see his Instagram can you see if anyone with the same surname is following him & message them? They’d be most likely to be able to get a message to him.

Poor man, I'm sure it fell in the parcel and he didn't realise until it was too late

Good that an honest person received it. Does he live anywhere near you?

Lexy70 · 13/11/2024 20:45

I've just gone through his IG and made a tonne of follow requests hopefully one will accept.

I just want him reunited with his phone and car keys, he is a 24 year old male so going mad I'm sure x

Delphiniumandlupins · 13/11/2024 20:51

If you have the phone switched on he might track it. Or he could get a friend to call it.

Branster · 13/11/2024 20:55

You actually used his IG profile, under his login????
Forget social media. This is a grown man, he can call his own number or track his phone once he realises it's missing.
Or it could be a scam.
If you don't hear anything, take it to the police tomorrow in case he's been murdered and this was a way of getting rid of the evidence.

Lexy70 · 13/11/2024 21:00

No of course I didn't login to his IG I looked at his page and sent a few friend requests to his list of friends. I can't get into his phone it has a password

OP posts:
Lexy70 · 13/11/2024 21:01

Yes I'm guessing he could track it via his Snapchat locator thing or find my phone. Interesting

OP posts:
Ilovemyshed · 13/11/2024 21:02

Just take it to the police and stop trying to play detective. Its possibly a prank, likely a scam.

Fiery30 · 13/11/2024 21:05

Not sure why you are logging on to his Insta and Snapchat, sending follow requests etc. Contact Amazon, their helpline is good or else just give it to the police.

ThatOpenSwan · 13/11/2024 21:05

How could it possibly be a scam, what's the supposed outcome here? MN suspicion is bizarre.

aodirjjd · 13/11/2024 21:05

I doubt police will take it. Presuming it’s not a regional thing they don’t deal with lost property.
