Any Amazon UK employees. Phone and car keys of employee in parcel by mistake

Hi Mumsnet,

Posting for traffic. I received a can of paint via Amazon yesterday, in it was an iPhone and a set of car/house keys.

I have managed to get the man's name and ID via the health info but. I've found him on IG and msg him but no reply.

I am keen to return this phone and set of keys to this young man.

Amazon has been useless.

Any tips for how I can contact/return these items.

Thankyou

Im not playing detective I'm just trying to help so that I don't have to bother the police which as they don't attend burglaries I am doubtful they will care about lost property.

@Fiery30 if you actually read my posts how could I sign into his IG etc. His phone is password protected

I would be very careful here OP - I am pretty sure that Amazon employees aren't allowed to take anything into the warehouse area, including phones. Just drop to police and bow out.

Outtherelookingin · 13/11/2024 21:08

Hopefully someone will accept your follow request. Try older people, they're more likely to accept 😄 and hopefully then receive your message.

@wanttokickoffbutcant thankyou that is sensible advice

We have a distribution centre in the next town could you take it to your local one?

Not sure why you are logging on to his Insta and Snapchat, sending follow requests etc. Contact Amazon, their helpline is good or else just give it to the police.

You haven’t read the op or the updates properly

Lincoln24 · 13/11/2024 21:12

I'm also genuinely curious as to how this could be a scam? Bearing in mind the value of a phone and a set of keys it seems an odd way to go about it.

Lexy70 · 13/11/2024 21:12

@socks1107 I'm afraid I live on a Scottish island and it is hundreds of miles to the nearest warehouse

You actually used his IG profile, under his login????
Forget social media. This is a grown man, he can call his own number or track his phone once he realises it's missing.
Or it could be a scam.
If you don't hear anything, take it to the police tomorrow in case he's been murdered and this was a way of getting rid of the evidence.

Only on Mumsnet could someone suggest something so ridiculous!

OP - just take it to the police or at least call 101 to log it!

Lexy70 · 13/11/2024 21:17

@WTF1974 I'm going to drop it into the police tomorrow

How are you in his IG & Snapchat if the phone is locked?

Falseshamrok · 13/11/2024 21:21

Omg why do people not read the op properly, SHE HAS HIS NAME FROM HIS EMERGENCY DETAILS which can be accessed without unlocking a phone.

eta - She has not access his actual social accounts or used his phone.

god dammit. 😂😂

🤯

MovingDilema · 13/11/2024 21:25

Losing your keys or phone is one thing, but they have to leave their phones in lockers to enter, so if contact the police as this is a bit suspect having both in there.

Lexy70 · 13/11/2024 21:26

@Falseshamrok thankyou so much FFS

Just take it to the police and stop trying to play detective. Its possibly a prank, likely a scam.

A scam which involves sending a phone and car keys to a randomer....

Some people think they're oh so clever spotting scams everywhere. What's more likely, an overworked, busy employee accidentally packages his own stuff up in a parcel or there's some elaborate scam involving sending out phones to randomers and hope that something or other happens?

Hope you get in touch with him OP. Do you know if he lives somewhere near you?

DancingTurtle · 13/11/2024 21:30

Fwiw I’d be playing amateur detective here too.

Lexy70 · 13/11/2024 21:35

I think he lives in Middlesbrough so nowhere near the Highlands sadly x

Classic scam.

There will be a knock at your door tomorrow, guy in a bald wig claiming to be Jeff Bezos. He will ask if you received keys and a phone in your Amazon package yesterday and when you say yes he will say congratulations, you have won my annual prize draw of a phone and a new car, come with me around the corner to see your new Ferrari.

He will keep saying it is just a bit further "round the corner" but will in fact lead you to a cashpoint. Once there he will remove the bald wig revealing himself to be a Nigerian prince who needs you to lend him £1,000 in order to release his family wealth, he promises to give you a significant cut of his immense fortune.

Be careful! Don't answer your door tomorrow! Take the phone straight to the police (via your backdoor)!
All the best.

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 13/11/2024 21:35

You can contact via phone but I'd suggest contacting Amazon on twitter, your details will be extracted and the staff identified and arrangements will be made to return it.

nongnangning · 13/11/2024 21:35

OP something a little bit like this happened to me in the summer. We found a phone in the street outside our holiday rental. No sign of anyone and it was about 11pm so we took it inside. Phone was locked etc. I put it by the bed to wait and see if someone realised it was missing and tried to phone it - they did, about 4am! Turned out they were a nightshift worker at the local supermarket (they realised on their 4am break that the phone was lost). We went down there with the phone at breakfast time and reunited phone with owner. He was very grateful. True story. So the owner of your phone may yet phone you up.

Differentstarts · 13/11/2024 21:36

It's just a bit weird if I lost my phone I'd be calling it. Something seems off

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 13/11/2024 21:37

And it happens all the time, packers put their stuff, customers send their keys in return parcels. It's a daily occurance.

StickyWikkit · 13/11/2024 21:37

Was your order actually from amazon, or another seller on amazon?

Lexy70 · 13/11/2024 21:40

@StickyWikkit actual Amazon not a seller on Amazon, I tried that thanks x
