Any Amazon UK employees. Phone and car keys of employee in parcel by mistake

Hi Mumsnet,

Posting for traffic. I received a can of paint via Amazon yesterday, in it was an iPhone and a set of car/house keys.

I have managed to get the man's name and ID via the health info but. I've found him on IG and msg him but no reply.

I am keen to return this phone and set of keys to this young man.

Amazon has been useless.

Any tips for how I can contact/return these items.

Thankyou

Anyone who loses their phone will call it to at least try and get it back. He will call when he realises it's gone.

Lexy70 · 13/11/2024 21:41

No missed calls since Mon night according to his notifications

You can often reply to texts on locked iPhones, or use Siri to call home or Mum or dad?

Orangeoranges42 · 13/11/2024 21:48

I’m sure people won’t like this and also doubt it’ll work… but can you see a photo from his IG and see if it’ll unlock the phone like face recognition.

i guess it won’t work but who knows

Error404pagenotfound · 13/11/2024 21:49

It is very strange that he hasn’t tried to call the phone. Also strange that they got their in the first place - you can’t take personal belongings onto the floor at Amazon as far as I’m aware.

If you know where he’s from, you could post on the local Facebook page to see if anyone knows him?

I think he lives in Middlesbrough so nowhere near the Highlands sadly x

I don't know if its possible to contact the individual distribution centres, but if he's from Middlesbrough he'll probably work at either Darlington or Wynyard (Billingham).

When I found a purse I called the bank of the card in there and said I have found your customers purse - can you call them with my details so that they can collect it. They said no that their call centre was incoming calls only so they were useless.

I then called a bingo brand as there was a card in the purse. They phoned their customer and connected me, and although it went to answerphone I was able to leave a message. So better customer service from the bingo company than a high street bank.

Op I'm not far from there but don't have SM, however I'm wondering if someone from there sees this thread and could post on the Middlesbrough Alerts page (or whatever their local FB page is) just a thought

LEWWW · 13/11/2024 21:52

Ask Siri to ring mam or dad, you won’t have to unlock the phone :)

Grabyourpassportandmyhand · 13/11/2024 21:52

I would imagine whoever dropped keys and a phone will presume they are stolen. Are the employees primarily non English speakers/students/contract workers? If you found him via his name alone, I'm presuming he doesn't have a generic name like John Smith so might be alone in this country.

Where is the nearest Amazon distribution centre to you? Would it be possible to send it back by tracked postage?

ineedsun · 13/11/2024 21:52

Can you use voice control / Siri to say phone home?

He won't be contactable via social media if you have his phone. I would ask the police to return his property to him. How did his stuff get inside your parcel?

Why not?

Bessica1970 · 13/11/2024 22:03

If you get Amazon involved, he might get his phone back but he might also lose his job!

SlightlyJaded · 13/11/2024 22:11

Can you get his birth date from his health/emergency info? Or from any of his socials? I found an iphone and managed to guess the password as it was the owners birthday (which was listed as part of emergency details). I called the last number which had a name associated to it, and it was her DH who was able to put her in touch with me.

Normallynumb · 13/11/2024 22:11

I'm really surprised he hasn't called his phone. That would be anyone's first thought.
The only thing you can do is hand it to police.. and that's if you have a police station in your town or city!
Our police station in a major SW tourist city closed down!

Bekindplease · 13/11/2024 22:13

Do you still have the Amazon box your order came in? It will have a site code on the label which is the location/warehouse the box was packed?

HÆLTHEPAIN · 13/11/2024 22:16

My friend works for Amazon in their warehouse and we’re near Middlesbrough. If you want to PM me just the name I can ask if she knows him.
There are also another couple of warehouses
close by though so it may not the the right one.

Good point

windowcovers · 13/11/2024 22:19

I can't help but just wanted to say I think you are doing a very kind thing in trying to track him down. Even if you can't, at least you know you've tried. Good luck!

Christwosheds · 13/11/2024 22:23

I wonder if he was robbed and someone secreted the stuff in there ? It’s v weird.

fashionqueen0123 · 13/11/2024 22:25

Id be trying to track him down too. There is no way the police will go to this effort.

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 13/11/2024 22:28

The police don't take lost property any more. I'd just wait and hope he eventually looks at Insta.

LovelyDaaling · 13/11/2024 22:32

Can you keep it charged and switched on in case he phones it?

Wibblywobblybobbly · 13/11/2024 22:34

Have you tried looking in Facebook for people with the same surname who live in Middlesbrough? Or posting on some
Middlesborough Facebook groups?

motelhotel · 13/11/2024 22:53

Tbf I think it's nice you are trying to track him down if Amazon find out he's done this they will probably sack him they don't have the best track record for kindness towards employees.
