This case is just beyond the realms of horrifying,

This poor child.

So if he was worried that her Mum would take her to Poland, why was the possibility of him taking them to Pakistan not an issue-especially if he had family around who would likely help!

If he was given custody, does anyone know what that means/meant in terms of her mum seeing her?

Oh wow your racism clearly shows. Nothing in ‘that’ religion approves beating up children.

I'm not racist pet. How do you even know what race I am for a start.

Honor killings only happen in certain religions.

It's a fact. Look it up.

For example honor killings of teenage daughters only happens in certain religions.

Sikhs, Hindus and Christians all do "honour" killings. There have been cases in the UK. In Egypt, Palestine and Lebanon, for example, Christians do it.

Also shouldn't you be angrier at the man that tortured and killed his child,

Than at me?

Yep, and they can use the 3d print from the scan in exactly the same way as a copy made from a physical mould. If anything it will be more accurate, as there won't be any "blurring" from movement whether inadvertent or intentional.

That they may but this is about what is accepted as evidence at a murder trial.

Let’s not forget that a court ordered this man custody - taking the child away from her mother.

Can we have accountability for the professionals involved please? CAFCASS, the family judge…

Edited

EXACTLY !!! This was, as ever, a wholly preventable tragedy. RIP Sara, you were let down by everybody who had access to you / power over your safety.

Soubriquet · 13/11/2024 14:56

One thing I just don’t understand, is how neighbours could hear screaming and not report. I couldn’t do that. If I hear a child screaming in agony like that, and adults yelling too, the police would be my first port of call.

Anonymousess · 13/11/2024 14:56

To the posters asking why he had custody of her and not her mother, it is covered here: www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c98e6zle170o

The jury heard that in 2019 Sara was living with her mother Olga Sharif, but then made allegations of neglect and violence against her.
She said her mother was smoking cannabis, not feeding her, leaving her alone with another child and burning her with a lighter.
Mr Sharif recorded the allegations in a video.
This led to a court order that Sara should live with her father and his new wife, Ms Batool.

My opinion is that he might have forced Sara to say those things about her mother to get custody of her? She was probably being burned by a lighter by him - considering what he went on to do.

It doesn’t matter whatever you are. You’ve made quite a discriminatory comment which would offend most people. Also honour killings happen in all religions and cultures so what makes your point exactly valid other than blatant racism and ignorance.

MissyB1 · 13/11/2024 14:56

Lisanoonan · 13/11/2024 14:09

I disagree. There is child abuse that is particular to different religions.

For example honor killings of teenage daughters only happens in certain religions.

But why the need to separate that out? Abusers will abuse, it’s something they choose to do, because they want to. The vast majority of men in the cultures you are hinting at will not be abusing anyone, because they aren’t the kind of people who would! Just like you find abusers in the Police/NHS/ schools, that doesn’t mean a police officer or Nurse or teacher is more likely to be an abuser.

a lot of cases that I've seen of honor killings in the news lately, have been from men who belong to the same handful of religions.

It's not the most important point in all of this.

What happened to her was disgusting

amIloud · 13/11/2024 14:57

He is a highly manipulative evil man, I truly hope he has met his match with our justice system and is destroyed. He needs to be locked up.

I then hope investigations continue into everything else.

Surely they will be exempted from jury service in the future. This case makes me rage and cry and it must be so hard keeping it together in the actual court room although I am sure they are totally professional. I also really feel for the first responders who found that poor child and the people who have collated all the evidence for the trial

They will be exempted. That hardly seems like adequate recompense though.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/nov/11/sara-sharifs-father-was-accused-of-abusing-three-girlfriends-court-hears

How was a child left in the care of this man? How does that history not, at the very least, immediately trigger SS to check the emotional and physical welfare of the child?

So many women who have suffered abuse from ex partners are forced to allow their children to have unsupervised contact with those men. Men who are abusive to partners more likely to be abusive towards their children.

The system supports abusive men.

Those sorts of comments are usually code for one particular religion. If that wasn't your meaning, apologies.

Just as any decent human I am angry this has happened. However that doesn’t take away from the fact that racist people like you see a tragic case like this and brush every person from a certain religion in the same brush :)

Great but a forensic ondontologist uses dental samples to compare against bite marks.

I thought they might have that as an option if people were not willing to comply with more invasive methods. Seems not.

I hope that all 3 are held to account.
Yet again it seems incomprehensible that between various agencies no one was able to join the dots that this is an unbelievably unsafe person to have custody of a young child/children.
The other children must be incredibly traumatised too.

First of all you're using racist in the wrong way.

Religion is not a race.

If you're going to abuse people on here, use a correct term at least.

I don’t think it’s a discriminatory comment at all, it’s true unfortunately. Their culture is restrictive of women, so naturally a double standard will follow. The people who don’t follow those standards are seen as “westernised”, it’s the exception as opposed to the rule.

I grew up in a city with a large South Asian population and girls I went to school with would be scared of the most mundane things eg what their parents would do if they saw them with bare arms in public. I’m just talking short sleeved school shirts or school-issued PE uniform. Girls would literally wear one thing when leaving their house, go to an alleyway, and change clothes to wear a different outfit to school. Literally placing themselves in an unsafe situation in an alleyway to avoid their parent’s wrath.

Other cultures abuse women too, sure. However it can be a widespread norm in that culture to restrict women to such an extreme extent, in ways other cultures do not.

Darling I’m not reading incoherent paragraphs. I . Also this just proves my point, throwing around the word ‘aggressive’ when you’ve clearly been outed. I guess if the shoe fits, it fits hahah ;)

murasaki · 13/11/2024 15:08

Well despite admitting to most of it, he didn't do the biting, as has apparently been proven, so someone needs convicting for that too. I'm not sure where the brother in law fits into it all here, as I think that wasn't him either. Just horrific all round. It seems the school tried to do the right thing. RIP Sara, I hope some justice is done.

I don’t disagree with what you’ve written. I do think it’s an issue pertaining culture. However my issue is blaming religion.
