What needs to be invented that hasn’t been yet?

We need car radio that we can pause. There was a quiz on the radio earlier and I waited ages for the answer but eventually had to go to a meeting. I wish I could pause it and start where I’d turned the engine off. Same as a rewind for when you start the car at the end of a song you love.

What else needs to be invented?

I haven't managed to rtft but... a much less invasive way of carrying out smear tests. I absolutely loathe them.

I'm in Australia, and they are self administered now. I've just done this and it was brilliant. Completely painless.

A Talk to type function on mumsnet. I hate typing on the phone.

Edited

Your phone can do this, surely? I can choose talk on any text box except passwords.

A mute button for barking dogs. And politicians.

They would be an absolute nightmare to furnish.

I lived in a non square house and it was almost impossible to find furniture that both fitted and looked good in any of the spaces.

@Lisanoonan. Check out the works of Bart Prince ( below ) or his tutor Bruce Goff’s Shinenkan has circular internal spaces ( the walls are made of gin bottle slag too.)

Underwear that 100% neutralises the smell of farts

and eliminates the sound at the same time.

MissyPants · 13/11/2024 02:54

A train that you drive onto in your car and just sit in your car on it/or walk about the train/whatever and drive off at your stop. Just like an actual train but like a drive on thing.
Would cut congestion/traffic jams and travel/driving time!

Better dentistry. And cheaper implants and more widely available. And duvet covers are impossible.

ChessieFL · 13/11/2024 04:32

Some sort of device that when you wake up in the middle of the night it tells you how long it’s going to be until you get back to sleep. Then if it tells you you’re going to be awake for 2 hours you can go and do something productive/read a book etc and just get back into bed and go back to sleep at the appointed time, rather than just lie there for 2 hours trying to get to sleep and getting more and more frustrated that you can’t. You’d still be tired but at least the time wouldn’t feel wasted.

Alternatively - a device that sends you straight back to sleep when you wake up in the middle of the night!

Garlicpest · 13/11/2024 04:35

In yet another development that will come too late for me, dental stem cell therapy is making progress! Other animals can grow new teeth, and scientists have been trying for some time now to make it happen for humans. It's worked in the lab, animal trials have been largely successful, and human trials are already underway. It's not problem-free yet, but it definitely looks like this will happen.

SharpOpalNewt · 13/11/2024 04:42

I can pause live radio in the car if listening via Sounds and Android Auto.

Machines than not only launder clothes but iron them and put them away in the wardrobe.

One language for all of Europe to learn, so everyone can communicate.

While also keeping their own languages.

Edited

Wasn't that Esperanto?

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 13/11/2024 06:12

@Whitegrenache that already exists

endofthelinefinally · 13/11/2024 06:34

You can easily fit a code operated lock to your door. Just make sure you always have the next set of batteries handy.

Hey I looked online. No they're not what I meant.

I see women's safety panic alarms, where if you press a button on them, they make a loud noise.

I meant a womans panic button on a bracelet, where if you press it, it immediately calls 999 for you.

My elderly mum has a panic button, where if she falls , she presses the button on her bracelet, and it instantly gets an ambulance to come out to her house, without her even having to speak to them.

I don't think a panic button exists for women's safety where if you press the button on yout bracelet it calls 999 for you and gives them your location, without you having to even talk to them.

But maybe it does and I haven't seen it. If anyone's seen it sure you can let me know

There are a couple of apps that do this on your phone one is Hollie Guard (named after a woman from Gloucester I think who was murdered). You programme it with emergency contact details and if you're being attacked you shake your phone and I think it starts recording audio and contacts your emergency numbers. Worth looking up. I think there are other similar ones.

A bracket on the wall to hang up your hairdryer so you have both hands free (to style your hair or out on make-up or play on your phone or whatever).

That exists. Just go and buy one

Fairislesweater · 13/11/2024 06:59

A theatre with seats where everyone can see. I’m so sick of looking at the back of people’s heads because the seats are not staggered or on enough of a slope.

A quicker way to search for things on Netflix and You Tube rather than spelling it out letter by letter (unless there already is and I am missing it!).

I think there is - a friend has one and it's like she's living in the future. It’s a little stuck thing and it has a voice control button that can search all her apps.

GiantHornets · 13/11/2024 07:54

A wifi bath. So I can tap an app when I'm on my way home and it runs a bubble bath ready for me

I have a bath like that, with a WiFi controlled mixer tap. Never used it as I’d need to remember to put the plug in (and add the bubble bath)

maydaymayday1 · 13/11/2024 08:14

A little button on your body (hidden away) that folds away your womb nicely when you are finished with it (could also be folded away until you want it)

Do not click on the product description for the thing that looks like a black banana. It's too traumatising.

Southlondonbynature · 13/11/2024 08:24

If u get given cash and no time to take to the bank, a machine which can transfer the cash to your account, kinda like u can scan cheques to your bank account

Not sure what u would do with the money once its in the account though, maybe the machine can shred it?

Limer · 13/11/2024 08:40

A thermostat that can be fitted to the human body, e.g. a little dial on the belly button. If you're cold, you can turn it up and you'll immediately start burning fat to heat yourself up. It would help with weight loss and heating bills!

And to echo a PP, differently shaped beds. I'd like a slightly convex one with the highest point at my hips, I often sleep with a pillow there to get the right effect.

A chiller that works like a microwave.

Our local wine shop used to have a machine that you put the newly purchsed
wine off the shelf in and it chilled to cold or extra cold in minutes it was brilliant, the shop closed and i have never seen one since.

And don't newer tellies have voice activation, sure i have seen a tv ad where they talk to the tv.
