Apoplectic that ITV have chosen Queen Camilla to host a documentary highlighting the domestic abuse of women when she was King Charle's OW for many years and complicit in his abuse of Princess Diana.

World gone mad!

How was she complicit? I get being the OW is not sisterly but I don’t see how she’s responsible for anything Charles did.

pizzaHeart · 11/11/2024 20:26

When I saw it I automatically assumed that she had personal experience. I don’t know yes or no but I think it’s something you assume with documentaries of these nature.

username7891 · 11/11/2024 20:28

She's not a sister but to give her credit (and I'm a firm Republican) she has spoken out on domestic violence for years.

Lifeglowup · 11/11/2024 20:28

She hasn’t abuaed anyone. Camilla has long been concerned about domestic violence. I have wondered if she or someone she knows was a survivor of donestic abuse. Statistically she will know lots of people.

Raquelos · 11/11/2024 20:28

I don't buy that. She will bring much-needed attention to a subject that desperately needs more lights shone on it. The public narrative peddled by a woman deeply damaged long before her dysfunctional marriage and who's been dead for decades just doesn't trump that.

Raquelos · 11/11/2024 20:31

Also apoplectic!!! 😂🙄😂

KatyaKabanova · 11/11/2024 20:31

She's supported charities and initiatives about domestic violence. She's using her position to publicise the issue and shine a light on it.
It's not about her.

Came here to say the same, I am staunchly not a Royalist, but this has been something she has chosen to educate herself on and the more the spotlight shines on the topic, the better.

SleepingStandingUp · 11/11/2024 20:34

So you're accusing King Charles of Domestic Violence? Is infidelity really considered DV?

Completely agree. The more people who talk about this the better. She can attract much needed funding to the cause.

mynameiscalypso · 11/11/2024 20:35

I love Camilla and this is a very worthy cause. She seems to have a natural ability to connect with people.

Createausername1970 · 11/11/2024 20:36

I am fairly sure I have heard Camilla talk about this subject before.

Diana was big on landmines, I seem to recall, but other than having relatives who served, I don't think she had particular first hand knowledge.

Camilla is damned if she does try to put her position to good use, and damned if she doesn't.

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 11/11/2024 20:36

Women of a certain age and certain status have often been told to shut up and put up. She is saying that this can happen to anyone.

She’s not hosting a documentary. The film is about a year of her life and as a longstanding supporter of abuse charities it’s inevitable that it would include her work with them. The more the issue has a light shone on it the better.

Reddog1 · 11/11/2024 20:39

I’m not a royalist and I am happy to criticise this grasping, greedy lot at any time, but even I’d stop short at suggesting that Camilla mustn’t talk about DV just because she was Charles’ sidepiece.

The two things aren’t linked.

I wouldn't have thought so. If it is, wasn't Diana unfaithful as well? I think she cheated on Charles and was involved with married men after Charles.

I very much regarded her as the OW initially and didn't have much time for her. But over the years I have definitely changed my mind about her.

EdithWeston · 11/11/2024 20:42

I think she's doing good work on this.

She's been working with charities on this for years, irrespective of whether there is press attention, so it's not as if she's plucked it out of thin air.

It's a great shame that there has been so little attention to her charitable work on this. Ditto that done by the Duchess of Edinburgh against VAWG, FGM and rape as a tool of war.

KatyaKabanova · 11/11/2024 20:44

@EdithWeston - excellent points, also I agree with you about Sophie. She's had a lot of involvement with this issue, sadly a lot of it has gone under the radar.

Greywool · 11/11/2024 20:46

I remember her interview with Emma Barnett on Woman’s Hour a couple of years ago, a lot was on violence against women and girls, and it was an interview that influenced how I think of Camilla (positively), whereas before then I hadn’t taken much notice of her.

Yes, absolutely. I’ve been talking to my mum recently and she’s only really now realising how many of her peers (in their 70s) are in abusive or controlling relationships. It’s just not something she was ever taught to see. I hope that Camilla might be able to shine a light where others of her generation will see and get support.

FaceLikeACrackedScreen · 11/11/2024 20:48

I remember reading something ages ago about her grandfather assaulting her pregnant grandmother. Ultimately they divorced.

TennisLady · 11/11/2024 20:49

This is something that actually made me feel more positive about Camilla. I hadn’t realised until last year that she was so involved in this.

I mean having an affair with a married man , is obviously emotional abuse to the wife, Diana.

So let's be clear, Camilla has been abusive to someone.

Edited

This is ridiculous. The person who damages a marriage by having an affair is the one in the marriage.
