Stop me if you have already heard this the last few days, I am trying to make sense of how I feel about Trump and other right leaning wins:

“Woke” issues being pushed to where they have been, has empowered the right by giving them something real and legitimate to campaign against. Something more than their usual transparently false bogeymen.

In general, Authoritarianism, compelled speech, no debate. Specifically men in women’s sports, in women’s changing rooms, unfettered immigration, being asked to ignore the evidence in front of our eyes.

This is happening across the world, Italy, France, Germany, USA, UK.

I remain entirely committed to progressive taxation, a social safety net, collective bargaining, workers rights, public schooling and health services as well as the rights of everyone to live contented, unmolested lives.

I reject identity politics in their entirety. For example, I consider terms like “Woman of colour” to be the epitome of divisive, racist, sexist thought patterns that seeks to infantilise people and move their locus of control from internal to external. Disempowering people and making them victims.

You haven't left the left, and the left hasn't left you. You just happen to be economically left-wing and socially right-wing. It's a recognized position, as is the opposite. Neither position is mine. I am both socially and economically centre-left, prevented from being very left by a distrust of sudden radical change. So most of us have our contradictions, and there's no law that everyone has to have a consistent left or right approach on anything.

That being said, I do consider Trump and Vance to be MONSTERS OF PURE EVIL, in a way that I don't regard mainstream Tories in the UK.

Moreover: it exasperates me when concern about women's safe spaces is equated with Trumpian conservativism about gender, and used to justify the latter. Both may lead to a rejection of self-ID but for totally different reasons. Trump isn't interested in women's safe spaces, as his own personal behaviour amply demonstrates. He and especially many of his supporters want clearly-defined gender roles, and to see women kept firmly in their place.

American women obviously want that though as he's very open about how he feels about women. He's very popular with both sexes and his contempt for Harris as a woman was clear throughout the election.

They overwhelmingly voted him in so his very conservative and 'traditional' values are obviously appealing.
