Stop me if you have already heard this the last few days, I am trying to make sense of how I feel about Trump and other right leaning wins:

“Woke” issues being pushed to where they have been, has empowered the right by giving them something real and legitimate to campaign against. Something more than their usual transparently false bogeymen.

In general, Authoritarianism, compelled speech, no debate. Specifically men in women’s sports, in women’s changing rooms, unfettered immigration, being asked to ignore the evidence in front of our eyes.

This is happening across the world, Italy, France, Germany, USA, UK.

I remain entirely committed to progressive taxation, a social safety net, collective bargaining, workers rights, public schooling and health services as well as the rights of everyone to live contented, unmolested lives.

I reject identity politics in their entirety. For example, I consider terms like “Woman of colour” to be the epitome of divisive, racist, sexist thought patterns that seeks to infantilise people and move their locus of control from internal to external. Disempowering people and making them victims.

I didn’t leave the left. The left left me.

Reasonable?

I am horrified that some people think it’s fine to produce and illustrate books aimed at young children with images of people in bondage and with scars from removal of healthy breasts.

I read things like this mentioned often, but I've never seen or heard any of it and I have school aged children. Can anyone point me in the direction of this material?

Also about the food prices rising under Biden, I thought that was wide spread as we in the UK had the same problem under Conservatives?

Do you mean like Grandpa’s Pride? Aimed for 3-6 year olds. Written by a they/them who states he likes to use “hidden imagery” in his illustrations, which include an atlas, called MAP, the pi symbol in bubbles, the “love is love” pro paedophile slogan and men in bondage gear during the parade.

“Look in the mirror”

Bill Maher speech

He's right and that's exactly what the Tories are having to do.

They are protected under the Equality Act which provides an exemption to a GRC. If you type "Equality Act 2010" you'll find it online.

Are you suggesting that currently only biological women can enter a female toilet or changing room?

What happens if that is not observed by someone with a GRC (or otherwise as the case may be)?

Seasmoke · 11/11/2024 23:10

Lovelyview · 11/11/2024 22:53

I wanted the left to stand up for women's rights. Which they totally failed to do.

Theÿ never have really. The unions opposed women's equality in employment, and have been a major blockage to Labour having a female leader. The enthusiastic embracing of trans rights can be contrasted with the snails pace in which they embraced women's equality.

CraftyPlumViewer · 11/11/2024 23:11

EasternStandard · 11/11/2024 23:00

There was divergence at the GE, changing the EqA which I assume Labour voters did not want

Also I notice pp saying they don't care / no one cares at the same time as pointing to shifts for politicians. It's due to women who HAVE actually created backlash that there is this shift at all. And no thanks to pp who have worked against that.

Yes, I recall that, in the run up to the election, they said they'd change the Equality Act to provide that sex means biological sex - a change that they were already aware was likely unlawful (for the same reasons the UK had to adopt the GRA) and Badenoch had previously said was legally "unworkable".

Excuse me for not being dim enough to believe them.

Sure

Can you link to where it was unlawful? I don't recall that being the response of the EHRC

Yes, that's the kind of thing I'm talking about. I've honestly never seen it before. And I thought the map was because it was a picture of a map. I have no idea about the other meanings either or where people get their info about them.

But I also don't see how that's down to a political party. Surely that should be raised with publishers and book shops if these things mean what you're saying they do? They certainly don't get taught in schools.

It depends on the organisation. There is an exemption in the EA which says that even people with a GRC can be prevented from entering a space if you can show such action is a proportionate means of achieving a legitimate aim.

For example, it's legal to have women only positions in jobs. Refuge space is another legitimate exemption and so on.

It's not the law that needs to change, it's the wrong interpretation of the law. John Lewis for example, think it's the law to have mixed sex changing rooms. Schools are building mixed sex toilets because they don't understand the law.

Organisations have been captured and it's going to take a while to turn that around.

You mentioned toilets and changing rooms. Can you link any now which refuses entry to someone with a GRC?

Now Starmer has said it's happening, which of those places do it already as claimed?

Gender ideology absolutely gets taught in school, and this institutional capture is enabled at governmental level.

Why does a 3 year old need to see a book with grandpa wearing bondage gear? What the fuck is wrong with Goodnight Moon?

AConcernedCitizen · 11/11/2024 23:27

Nobody in America gave a shit about "woke" at the polls though.

Americans are terrified because the cost of their food has gone up 25% (IIRC) in the last few years, fuel prices are rising and they have an illegal immigration issue.

Trump campaigned on solving those problems, while Harris campaigned on Trump being a threat to democracy.

When it comes down to it, we care about food, shelter and jobs much more than the fairness of woman's sports. That's what wins elections.

You're behind the times! Starmer has said many times that biology is important and that protecting women's spaces are important as have other members of the Labour party.

What would you like Starmer to say on immigration?

No he hasn’t. He has refused to say what a women is and if women’s rights are as important as men’s. He’s a prick and a misogynist.

YANBU OP.

I am Jewish, and have always identified as left-wing. However i have been horrified by the change to the left over the last few years.

The left has become an absolute cesspit of anti-semitism. Many prominent left wingers now parrot IRGC propaganda, and justify the beatings and murders of Jews in Israel and across Europe. Cornyn and all those who campaigned for him opened the floodgates to these vile anti-semite, and all who supported him should feel ashamed.

It has now reached the point where I feel far more uncomfortable in the company of left-wing people than I do in the company of Tory voters, as I know that the left-wingers are significantly more likely to hold anti-Semitic views that their centre-right counterparts are.

I would never vote for someone like Trump or Farage, but I do despair at the current state of the left.

It depends on the organisation. Organisations can prevent anyone with a GRC if there is a legitimate aim. Glasgow and Clyde Rape Crisis for example, have become independent as they don't agree with Scotland Rape Crisis policy of being trans inclusive.

JK Rowling set up her own rape crisis centre which legitimately disallows trans women.

Streeting is supporting the nurses whose changing room became available to men. The NHS is currently captured as are many organisations.

However the law has always been the same and always allowed exemptions to a GRC.

The conversation is related to Starmer

Starmer said that single sex spaces should be protected

with this claim for toilets and changing rooms

They are protected under the Equality Act which provides an exemption to a GRC. If you type "Equality Act 2010" you'll find it online.

That is not currently true.

Great. Women use the women’s toilets and men use the men’s toilets as they always have. Everyone is respectful of that as they always have been.
can we all move on now please?

They might be angry about the woke agenda but who is really going to vote on concerns about a man being in a woman’s changing rooms when it’s an everyday struggle to pay bills and buy food

but time and time again when asked at the polls why have you voted Trump the response was the economy

followed by immigration

why do people not want to listen and decided for those voters what their agenda was as it suits their narrative
