To think that it isn't insane to have a 'just in case' bag?

WeeOrcadian · 09/11/2024 18:51

DH thinks I'm being overly cautious with this, I don't. So I thought I'd get the opinion of the hive mind.

I'm very forgetful and often get stressed if I haven't got something I need - even basics, like lip balm. It makes me feel even more unorganised than I already am.

It's a pencil case, so isn't huge, but it contains lots of essentials and some not essential items.

I have suspected ND (currently undergoing investigation) and I saw someone online had made one. Boom. Brilliant idea.

I tend to take it with me to work, just in case, hence the name of it!

Thoughts?

Excellent idea!

TwattyMcFuckFace · 09/11/2024 18:52

Sounds like a good idea if not having lip balm or other unimportant things stress you out.

I wouldn't give it any more thought really.

GetrudeCoppard · 09/11/2024 18:53

Depends what’s in it before I decide if it’s ‘insane’ 😂

coodawoodashooda · 09/11/2024 18:53

Excellent Idea

Makelikeatreeandleaf · 09/11/2024 18:53

Not sure what items you have in it that are causing controversy, but surely lots of people carry such things. I have a little pouch that I can move between bags with various things in it - paracetamol, lip balm, nail file, glasses wipes etc. May not be that everyone does that, but don't think it's unusual.

Min133 · 09/11/2024 18:54

I have one too. I think it's smart to have one. We recently had to evacuate our house with no notice and now I have an essentials bag including spare clothes for us in the car in case it ever happens again

Hankunamatata · 09/11/2024 18:54

You mean stuff that women usually carry round in their handbag?
Currently I have deodorant, wipes, hairbrush, hair ties, tissues, suncream, sanitary pads, mini first aid kit (accident prone kids)

Wednesdaysdrag · 09/11/2024 18:54

Depends on what’s in it.

Is it just a pencil case with a few bits in?

Surely lots of people do that anyway in their bag?

I am ND so may not be helpful but I have a stain one, lip balm, atomiser with my favourite perfume, spare pens, spare lipstick, hair clip.

I do mint call it anything, they are just in my bag.

DecafDodger · 09/11/2024 18:55

I don't even get what the issue is - women have handbags, we carry a lot ot 'just in case' supplies.

I travel a lot, I have travel cosmetics bag with travel sized of everything I use, and travel charger/powerbank/adapter bag always ready. Only practical, who wants to look for a charging cable in a foreign country in the middle of the night.

TheNightmareBeforeChristmas21 · 09/11/2024 18:56

It sounds absolutely fine and quite normal? I always have a hospital bag packed, which sounds really weird to people, but I have chronic illnesses and never know when I’m going to end up there in an emergency and it just reassures me knowing there’s one less thing to worry about. Just do whatever you need to do! X

TeenLifeMum · 09/11/2024 18:56

A phone charging thing I’d understand but being anxious about not having lip balm is not something I get. I do like to have a lip balm but it’s hardly emergency stuff. Mind you, I have an allergy that triggers my asthma and I regularly risk it and go out without my inhaler. It’s so rarely an issue.

Anotherparkingthread · 09/11/2024 18:57

I have a packed bag in my closet incase I need to grab a flight short notice lol. You're fine!

NeedToUnfreeze · 09/11/2024 18:57

I have two of these - one for essentials like lip balm, tissues, paracetamol, hand sanitiser etc., and one for makeup. I move them between different bags for daily use. Totally normal imo.

FriendsDrinkBook · 09/11/2024 18:58

I do this and so does my husband. We're both autistic , but it makes great sense to us. We're never without a phone charger , basic meds , lip balm , hand cream etc.

Not weird at all op.

Createausername1970 · 09/11/2024 18:59

Nothing wrong with this at all. I have a ziplock bag containing a box of lemon teabags, a pack of tissues, a £2 coin (emergency bus fare) and a black pen. It lives at the bottom of my laptop bag so it comes with me automatically on the days I have to go into the office.

mindutopia · 09/11/2024 18:59

Is that not just a handbag?

Unless you have a full first aid kit, a machete, 80 toilet roll and 2 weeks worth of rations, carrying a few essentials is perfectly normal.

I personally have a habit of taking emergency herbal tea with me because I’m fussy about herbal tea. I went into hospital for 5 days for a major operation and I took like an entire tea farm with me. 😂

yutulin · 09/11/2024 19:00

I have a wallet that contains tampons, towels, lip balm, hand sanitizer, pain relief and Imodium if that's what you mean? I don't use a bag very often so it's not always with me, but always with me at work, or if it's a longer day out and I have got a bag with me (be it mine or DH saddling the family back pack!)

TillyKister · 09/11/2024 19:04

Absolutely nothing wrong with this OP
I have one too, a makeup bag... I keep wipes, lip balm, mini sewing kit ( you wouldn't believe how often I've/ others have used that) hand gel, paracetamol.

Lots of women I know have very similar too.

ruethewhirl · 09/11/2024 19:06

I'm the same and I have one too. Men don't seem to get it though, my DH certainly doesn't.

Vax · 09/11/2024 19:09

What's in it?

I do similar - very handy and I'm never without this bag I might need.

You might want to add another £ to that emergency bus fare!

ChocolateLemsip · 09/11/2024 19:11

I was actually thinking of making up a bag of clothes, toiletries etc as the PP mentioned (who had to evacuate their home without notice). This doesn't seem to be what you're taking about OP, but as the climate emergency worsens I think it's a good idea.
I also have my medication kit which I carry around everywhere.

Pylwin · 09/11/2024 19:12

I have a little zipper makeup bag with essentials in it I move between bags.

It's got makeup, meds, work lanyard, tweezers lip balm, spare pen loads more stuff

buffyspikefaith · 09/11/2024 19:13
