Vicious XL Bully attack leaves five-year-old boy with life-changing injuries and needing facial reconstruction surgery | Daily Mail Online

Little Teddy needed 100 stitches in his face but was lucky to escape with his life.

Is it unreasonable now to ask the Government to give a warning in the media, that children are to be kept away from these dogs? Not to enter a house or garden where they're known to be? Even if told that the dog is safe, which they are not.
This little chap was visiting a home with his family when it struck.

XL Bully attack leaves young boy needing facial reconstruction surgery

A five-year-old boy has been left with life-changing injuries following a vicious mauling by an XL Bully in Scotland. His traumatised family who helplessly watched on in horror now want the breed banned.

People who own one should be forced to make this clear outside of their home, with a dangerous dog sign

They're so so dangerous, that poor boy

SerendipityJane · 08/11/2024 16:19

The incomprehensible and frustrating part is that in comparison to gun laws in the US this is so much easier to legislate against, we don't have the difficulty of the constitution process

We have worse. The tyranny of the thick.

DeepRoseFish · 08/11/2024 16:20

These dogs need to be illegal

This 100%.

The only people I know to have them are two brothers who have been known to me for 20 plus years and they are both violent psychopaths who have spent long stretches in jail. They also have them around their young children and grand child.

Only two types of people own these dogs - absolute knuckle draggers and brainwashed dog obsessives who believe they're sweet really and "it's the owner, not the breed".

Iheartmysmart · 08/11/2024 16:30

I used to work in a pet shop and a man would regularly come in with his XL bully. This was prior to the ban so she was unmuzzled. He used to say she was friendly as long as you didn’t make eye contact with her! Hmm that’s not friendly in my view.

Last I heard, she had been destroyed as she kept getting out of his garden and getting into the primary school playing field over the road. They actually had to put a protocol in place for the children in case the dog escaped.

ShouldIEvenBother · 08/11/2024 16:37

When a species becomes extinct it's generally regarded as a tragedy.

If this particular breed of dog becomes extinct it will not be considered a tragedy - and with good reason.

I am vegetarian. I love animals. I would like these dogs to be humanely euthanised in order to preserve human life, human safety, and other animal safety.

LivelyMintViper · 08/11/2024 16:45

There was a post on mumsnet recently with a mother saying she was worried about her child going on a play date in a house which had one of these dogs. She knew the mother of the other child and apparently she was very nice person. I believe she decided against it in the end I hope she reads this post and realizes that she made the right decision

Bingthings · 08/11/2024 16:52

They are a lethal combination. They are also absolutely lovely until the second they aren’t and then they are unstoppable. They just snap there’s no warning sign they go from loving family pet to killer in a second and that’s why they all need to be pts

Anothernamechane · 08/11/2024 16:58

I'm now in favour of a mass cull and I never have been with any other breed. Pre my daughter I actually own a staffie cross and she was a very sweet girl, but I still wouldn't have had her if I had kids at the time because they're still powerful dogs with a high prey drive.

XL bullies are monsters with a completely unpredictable temperament. Humans have created a dog that should never have existed

Just waiting for posters from a few threads back to come on talking about their massive, harmless dope of a dog. They seem to have gone pretty quiet.

Because they know they would have their arse handed to them. And rightly so!

Poor darling boy. He is so lucky to be alive. It is a shame that so many children are being offered up as dog food to these horrendous shitbulls. Parents who knowingly take they child to a house with a bully breed surely know by now the risk they are taking, and I think of their child is attacked, they should be charged with child endangerment.

I am vegan and totally agree with a total cull of these nasty breeds.

I do not allow my children to visit homes with dogs, let alone bully breeds.

This is the huge problem with these dogs though. They really are big soft gentle giants but they have something dreadfully wrong where they go from that to killing they just snap. Owners are so deluded and under the spell that they can’t see how it could happen with their dog . This unpredictability is what makes a cull necessary

I have children and a 'bully breed'. I still hate XL's and have said many times they should be culled. They are not the same as other breeds, not by a long shot.

Most bull breeds are strong. As are many other breeds. But it's the temperament, DNA and interbreeding that sets XL bullies apart.

McSilkson · 08/11/2024 17:16

Isn't that the third child attack by these dogs this week...?

QueenTweenandKingTeen · 08/11/2024 17:16

sunshineday20 · 08/11/2024 16:19

Awful dogs. I know a couple that split up over this. Friend was pregnant and her DP brought an XL bully puppy home one day and he couldn't train it. She wanted him to re-home before the baby came but he wouldn't. Ended up with her leaving over it and she won't allow access to the child now because of the worries over this dog. Problem is with these dogs is these attacks are in their nature, I think they have a kill drive. Pairing that with the stupid and unreasonable owners that seem to buy them constantly ends in disaster.

Good for her. Has he pushed to see the baby? I am interested in whether a court will side with her on this. What an idiot man to choose a dog over his own child.

At least. There will be more, but they don't all get reported.

You are fooling yourself, please protect your children. All bully breeds come from breeds bred to tear down bulls, or fight in pits. You are very lucky your dog hasn't turned yet, and maybe it won't, but there is an increased chance it will, over other dogs who were bred to herd or retrieve.

Bobkite · 08/11/2024 17:22

Thank god for MN when it comes to this subject. Some actual sense.

I am sick to the back teeth of the freak mutant dog sympathising morons all over FB.

"It's the deeeed not the bweeeed" - the absolute biggest load of bullshit I have ever heard. These things have been bred down from Pitbulls - Pitbulls are a fighting breed, bred to launch an attack, lock on and destroy. This instinct is now running amock in this country. A fighting breed's instinct taken out on humans and other animals.

Destroy the fucking lot of them. They are like guns. Nobody has a reasonable need for one and that's how they should be treated - like lethal weapons. Every single day they are not all culled is another day we are all at risk from another savage mauling.

For actual fuck sake. Just round the lot up and shoot them. Horrible bastard things. I love and own dogs but I fucking hate this type of bull breed. Hate them and their thick, scabby, twat owners.

I haven't heard that idea floated before but it is a damn good one!

If I knew where these devil dogs were I could change the route I walk etc. It would make parents think more and help protect workers who visit homes eg paramedics.

Put it this way I wouldn’t have any form of ‘bully breed’ around my children. Many other bully breeds have also attacked children in the past! And I really don’t want to hear “it’s not the dog it’s the owner” bullshit! I really could not give a shit! I would never let my child anywhere near a bully breed whether xl or otherwise! A staffy once attacked my horse, completely unprovoked and the only reason its jaws let go of her is because she seriously injured it with her hoof! Otherwise there’s no way that dog was ever letting go! And it was a pup at that! No way would I have any bully near my kids!

Bingthings · 08/11/2024 17:26

It needs to be a recognised safeguarding issue. No XL bully in a house where a child lives or visits

Yes like the sex offenders register.. If they're not all shot (my preferred option), We should all have a right to know where they live (and should be kept confined) so we can avoid them.

blueyismyg · 08/11/2024 17:27

@Mumofnarnia completely your choice. But comparing a staffy to an XL is utterly pointless. They are incomparable. I don't have a staffy either but I don't have the same feelings towards them as I do towards XL bullies.
