Breastfeeding a stranger’s child

I was recently told of a friend’s friend who under very specific circumstances was compelled to breastfeed a complete stranger’s baby. I find the concept quite disturbing. Think remote, small airport. One rug shop for duty free. But then again a starving baby is a starving baby.

As far as I am aware there were really no alternative options available.

That's lovely. Women used to do this all the time. And, of course, that was what wet-nurses did, too.

Didn’t this happen in ‘the hand that rocks the cradle’? The first scary fil
i ever saw and it still haunts me!

I think I'd do this in an emergency too. I've breastfed my nephew and SIL has breastfed my son. Both bottle refusers, only a month between them in age and in the early days we realised it meant we could actually take them both in turns and pop out for longer than an hour or so!

The milk of human kindness.

I would have breastfed another baby when I was breast feeding. I EBF for 7 months.
Breast milk is good for babies donated or not, when they are in a PICU for example.

I’d have to be stuck on a desert island with nobody but this other baby for me to even consider it tbh.

Donating blood is similar but less intimate

It's no different to giving a strangers baby a bottle of formula if you were asked. Why do you find it disturbing feeding a hungry baby the natural way? I would have quite happily helped a desperate Mum by feeding her baby when my children were babies & I was breastfeeding.
