Given that Trump is elected.

OP posts:
RestitutionGranted · 06/11/2024 10:25

I definitely won’t be going there any time soon and will strongly discourage DD from doing so.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 06/11/2024 10:27

I have no desire to go there anyway but I would need to check what the law would be if I had an ectopic pregnancy whilst over there, and to be honest even needing to check that makes me not want to go there.

PauliesWalnuts · 06/11/2024 10:29

I know there are very few governments that are perfect, but I have a baseline of acceptable behaviour from a humanitarian point of view, e.g. women, racism, death penalty, dictatorship so I do make a point of avoiding those countries. I know my tourist pennies won't count for much but it does help me sleep at night.

As you say he got elected. You either respect democracy or you don’t. Wouldn’t have been my choice but I don’t get to vote in American elections.

Not visiting the USA will achieve nothing but there are lots of other places you can go so your call.

Up to you. I wouldn't let Trump spoil my holiday plans.

Can people not see it's a hugely diverse country. And the reasons people vote they way they do is complex? I'll keep visiting, just like I've visited Hungary and Italy this year.

I'll certainly be visiting my best friend in super liberal Vermont but we also plan to spend time in Georgia and North Carolina.

Most of my American friends are Democrats. Some are (shock, horror, Republicans) When we visit, they'll welcome us, we will have a wonderful time and we will put politics aside because we are grown ups capable of accepting not everyone thinks like us.

If you are woman of reproductive age you are right not to go.

I agree.

MarriedtoSeamus · 06/11/2024 10:35

My best friend is supposed to be off to Florida tomorrow and is seriously considering not going. I’m not sure I would be going tbh

PlumViper · 06/11/2024 10:37

LeighaStand · 06/11/2024 07:49

Maybe, unreasonable, but feels very unsafe. Very unwelcoming, very divided.

Not a country I want to spend time in.

having a new leader does not suddenly change humans ???

berksandbeyond · 06/11/2024 10:24

I would be scared to go if there was even a tiny chance I was pregnant, because if something goes wrong they’d rather I bled out or die of sepsis than treat me because the foetus is more important in their eyes / law.

Exactly.

That's crazy. What does she think will happen?

TheWinterWillWash · 06/11/2024 10:40

Why do you think it feels divided? He didn’t just win the electoral college convincingly, he won a majority of all votes. A majority of Americans want him…that seems more united than divided.

Oxforddictionary12 · 06/11/2024 10:45

Your feelings are valid OP. You might be okay as a tourist but god forbid don't get pregnant with complications out there though. I personally wouldn't want to visit a country where it's acceptable to have guns and Trump is president. How anyone can even dream to support him is beyond me- for the many multiple reasons people have listed above.

The UK is equally divided.

Lobelia123 · 06/11/2024 10:48

I despise Trump. Im shocked and disappointed by the election result. I still think youre being silly, bordering on ridiculous.

Boohoo76 · 06/11/2024 10:48

Only if I was pregnant and then it would depend on which state I was visiting but that was the case before the election. It was also
something that I had to think about when I was pregnant with my second child as I suffered with pre eclampsia and HELLP syndrome with my first so I had to be careful about which countries I travelled to to ensure that I could get prompt medical attention. It meant that some EU countries were off my travel list. It’s not just the U.S. that outlaws abortion.

IWillAlwaysBeinaClubWithYouin1973 · 06/11/2024 10:48

USA is expensive, and yes, now I do consider it more dangerous so just not worth it. I've been twice so that was nice, but no way would I ever go there again, and would definitely discourage DDs, but that's unlikely as they feel the same as me.

Grow up. Another misogynist.

TheDonaldJT · 06/11/2024 10:51

Oh get a grip and go on your holiday. Or cancel it and go to Benidorm. Whatever.

Ebeneser · 06/11/2024 10:54

I’d go. I’d feel safer there as a woman than I would be in somewhere like India or a UAE state.

Ok Confused So don't go. I'm not sure anyone but you will care.

Nogaxeh · 06/11/2024 10:56

We visited the US in 2017 for a family wedding during Trump's first Presidency. It was fine.

You're living in a country that is exactly the same.

Go, don't go, I doubt anyone would care either way.

Absolutely insane.

stayathomer · 06/11/2024 11:04

If it was to live I’d have a different answer but everything will go on as usual in the us and I think individuals would have been better in more danger if Kamala got in to be fair (from his supporters)
