To be so disappointed in people - Trump voters especially

notsorighteousthesedays · 06/11/2024 06:43

I feel absolutely stunned that despite all that has been said and done Trump is likely to get the chance to make the world burn a little faster.

I am afraid for a future so full of anger and hate.

I need to stop worrying about my looks so much. If a man that orange and fluorescent can be the most powerful man and ‘lead the free world’ then ive more options than I realised.

How come this election was democratic but the last one wasn't? How did the Democrats not manage to 'steal' this election when they're actually in power, unlike last time? I assume Trump won't be contesting the result seeing as he won, but we all know he'd have claimed the election was stolen if he hadn't. Could you explain why please?

‘Too big to rig’ this time I think.

Good morning everyone! It’s a great day to be alive.

YouWish123 · 06/11/2024 12:02

This is the second time Trump has run against a woman, and the second time he has won. In my opinion, part of the problem might lie in a public hesitation to elect a female president, which could be influencing the outcome more than Trump’s political abilities.

Why punish people who've worked hard to earn more with extra tax? Talk about 'tell me you're a communist without telling me you're a communist' just by that very dull statement.

Stop being bitter about people that earn more and put the effort into being better yourself.

And I would rather starve than live with the shame of going on benefits. There is no dignity in handouts

You think I'm a communist! You have got no idea of what I earn. I am now retired but I was a higher rate tax payer.

What is your education level? You certainly don't know what communism means.

So if you lost your job or became disabled and couldn't work, you would literally starve to death rather than apply for any benefits? I don't believe you. Anyway, right wing well off people do like benefits. If they didn't, they wouldn't be moaning about the means testing of child benefit and the winter fuel allowance.

And how did that trade war turn out for Trump? US continues to buy Chinese goods via ASEAN and Mexico just as Europeans continue to buy Russian oil via India. The US and European electorate are so clever /s

That may be true on the US side, but if you look at it from the Chinese side, the impact of the trade war is obvious. Foreign capital is leaving, unemployment is so high that the government no longer publishes it, the real estate market is collapsing, the regime's legitimacy is weakened, and it is in great trouble, which greatly reduces the possibility of its invasion of Taiwan. If the China policy remains unchanged and China continues to grow, it will be very dangerous when it cannot be contained. In addition, the Biden administration has not changed Trump's China policy, which means it is effective and the two parties have reached a consensus.

Only if you are a white male.

Gymnopedie · 06/11/2024 12:03

Under the circumstances Harris did well to get as close as she did.

The ONE glimmer of light in this is that thanks to the American system the world can't have more than four more years of Trump. (Unless he changes the system. He's threatened to but I don't think even he could swing that one).

If we can get through the next four years without too much damage we can breathe again.

I think this post, probably inadvertently, illuminates the issue of fostering division and ill-will very clearly

Your ignorance is showing.
Are you actually trying to say Kamala harris Is stupid?
Fucking Mortified for you, how do you tie your laces?

Kamala, what would you do different to Biden?

Errm, nothing comes to mind

Kamala, you are in charge of securing the boarder, but you have never visited it, have you?

Well, I’ve never been to Europe either, so

THIS is your preferred candidate?????
I suggest it’s you that can’t tie shoelaces

hairbearbunches · 06/11/2024 12:04

@Navyblue214 I don't like this result either, but I wouldn't say Trump is Hitler. It's not that he doesn't want to be a dictator. He may want to, but there are many obstacles in the American system that he can't overcome to get there. I think today, the only person who can be compared to Hitler is Xi Jinping, the real dictator.

Hitler didn't arrive on day one in full on dictator mode, but once you've made it to the top job, it doesn't matter how many obstacles there are in your own particular country's system, you have the power to overturn all of it. Unless we learn the lesson of history, we are doomed to repeat it.

Well there was always a 50/50 chance trump would win from the outset and a white male v black female in a nation that is still widely and openly racist sexist and misogynistic in large swathes of the country it’s was always odds on for the white male - the US is a completely different beast to the UK there’s little in the way of ‘moderate views’ and they are fervent in their core beliefs.

Weird how we didn't see anything about race in the run up to the election, apart from the democrats about how great it was to be female and black and how lucky the electorate was to get the chance to vote for her.

Sounds like a DEI hire to me.

thats not true in America. The president does not have the power to change very much unilaterally.

it's bullshit polarisation like this that means the democrats lost.

I am more disappointed that even one person voted for the empty vessel that is Kamala Harris. She stood for nothing, said nothing and has achieved nothing in her 4 years.

I am pleased for the US that they have Trump and all his team. They are lucky.

All this Hitler stuff is genuinely hilarious. People will believe anything.

Well done Oregan

Learn more…Opens in new tab

Oregon law protects a pregnant person's right to have an abortion and there are no legal restrictions on abortion access:

No restrictions: Oregon has no restrictions on abortion based on how far along in pregnancy you are, and there are no required waiting periods.

Medication abortion: You can access medication abortion pills by mail within Oregon.

Parental consent: You don't need parental consent to get an abortion if you're 16 or 17, but you do need parental consent if you're under 15.

U.S. citizenship: You don't need to be a U.S. citizen to get abortion services in Oregon.

Out-of-state residents: You don't need to be an Oregon resident to get abortion services in Oregon.

The two main types of abortion are medication abortion and procedural abortion, and both are safe and effective. The type of procedure you have depends on how far along you are in your pregnancy and the provider you choose.

The June 2022 U.S. Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade did not change Oregon laws protecting a pregnant person's right to have an abortion.

pregnant person

Ugh. That’s a reason right there. People don’t want to vote for anyone who can’t use the word woman when it matters most.

And that is why I'm totally aware of the implications of the new Trump presidency.
And yes, it's frightening.
