To be so disappointed in people - Trump voters especially

1000 replies

notsorighteousthesedays · 06/11/2024 06:43

I feel absolutely stunned that despite all that has been said and done Trump is likely to get the chance to make the world burn a little faster.

I am afraid for a future so full of anger and hate.

He has a very crude way of speaking but the argument he was making is one that anti war liberals have made for decades especially during the Bush years.

It's a Trumpish take on asking politicians whether they would be willing to sacrifice themselves or their loved ones in wars started by others.

Exactly!
You said it much better than I did.
It's obviously what he's saying, even if you don't like how he's saying it.

Another2Cats · 06/11/2024 10:59

No, they don't have to find the "perfect" candidate at all. They just needed to find a competent candidate.

A woman has never won the election Kamala Harris is an attorney and that still wasn't enough. They should have put a man up against Trump he would never have won.

wowzelcat · 06/11/2024 11:07

ItsFunToBeAVampire · 06/11/2024 11:03

It's not a violent comment though.
It's literally what I said.

Would people who advocate for war still say the same if they were on the front line? He's not saying she should be lined up with guns pointing at her.

Having violent fantasies about a woman being shot by a firing squad isn't violent. Right-oh. That's why Trump was investigated for his remarks by an Arizona prosecutor. This one is from Reuters

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/trump-suggests-liz-cheney-should-face-firing-squad-her-foreign-policy-stance-2024-11-01/

Speaking to a local TV station on Friday, Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes said Trump might have violated state laws that prohibit death threats.
"I have already asked my criminal division chief to start looking at that statement, analyzing it for whether it qualifies as a death threat under Arizona's laws"

But of course, all these comments Trump makes about grabbing women by the pussy, that immigrants eat cats and dogs, etc, we are just misinterpreting him, because he is such a fine human being.

Jaxhog · 06/11/2024 11:08

I hope Canada is reinforcing its borders.

Lovelyview · 06/11/2024 11:08

thepariscrimefiles · 06/11/2024 10:48

You care so much about women that you support an adjudicated sex offender who talks about 'grabbing them by the pussy', who appointed 3 conservative justices on the Supreme Court (including a sex offender in Brett Kavanaugh) to overturn Roe V Wade? You don't care about women, you just hate trans people.

Do you think the cases that @ItsFunToBeAVampire highlighted are OK? The Democrats actively put legislation in place to enable them. Can you see that women's rights are a wider issue than abortion? Can you see that people who want to protect women's rights might have had a difficult decision to make at this election?

thepariscrimefiles · 06/11/2024 11:08

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 06/11/2024 11:01

Exactly. If by highlighting the dangers that women face by people who insist males can be women and have a right to be in their spaces and sports, that you automatically equate this with being a Trump supporter who ‘hates trans peepul’ it just makes one look thick as fuck.

Rapists should not be in women's prisons. Not sure why you've spelled 'people' as 'peepul' as it just makes you look 'as thick as fuck'.

Whatafustercluck · 06/11/2024 10:59

It's naive to think they're not already coming for us. We have:

  • Evidence of Russian interference in our voting system;
  • Multiple Russian cyberattack attempts on multiple UK systems;
  • Novichok nerve agent used on UK soil, causing the death and injury of UK citizens (even the UK's chief police officer at the time said he thought it could be construed as an act of war).

It doesn't have to be all out nuclear war. Modern warfare tactics are way more subtle than that - and far more sinister as a result. They're already coming for us, and they were even prior to the invasion of Ukraine.

Ask yourself this… do these actions come BEFORE or AFTER the annexation of Crimea? As for the Uk citizen… who is a former double agent… well, it’s crude but not random is it?

bamboosockmonster · 06/11/2024 11:11

we lived through it before. we have no control over it. can't get stressed about it, although I am disappointed and upset. I can't let it ruin my life though. Focus your energy on doing something positive instead, perhaps promoting activities that are counter to Trump's politics or protecting the environment or something.

That’s how I imagine people with the intellect and comprehensions skills (or lack of) that you’ve shown with your comment speak.

Calling people right wing facsists and Nazis is how we got here.

Bollocks - if you do not fundamentally believe in far-right nazi things ppl saying you're a far right nazi will not suddenly turn you into a far right nazi.

I've been called both things for voting to leave the EU & for thinking men cannot be women yet I'd sooner cut both my hands off than vote Tory (not that I think they are far-right nazis but they are too right-wing for me) let alone the knobbers at Reform.

It's just such a lazy fucking argument

You might have to an influx of Americans will come your way.

There are a lot of Americans who have already left....Portugal is a popular destination. I left 20 years ago with the passage of the Homeland Security Act. My historian spidey senses were tingling. Glad I did.

SassK · 06/11/2024 11:15

He's won the popular vote this time too.

Only the second president in US history to achieve two non consecutive terms. Quite an achievement 🙌

AnonymousBleep · 06/11/2024 11:15

Also - can one of the Trump apologists fans on here explain how the Democrats managed to 'steal' the last election, but not this one? We all know that if Trump had lost, he would have kicked off with all the law suits and riots etc, but strangely I don't think that will happen now he's won? How come when the Democrats are actually in power, they're less good at stealing elections than when they're not?

It truly is a mystery for our times.

OvaHere · 06/11/2024 11:16

I feel weary about the prospect of the continuous over the top news cycle for the next four years. It felt like it had calmed down until the election campaigning began. I know what the US president does or says is always going to be news but I hope it doesn't eclipse everything else in the way it did 2016-2020.

Another2Cats · 06/11/2024 11:17

HecatesBees · 06/11/2024 09:42

Erm, In the US, the women calling for total body autonomy ie abortion at chioce right up to term is not reasonable either If a woman needs an abortion at any time, then who are you to say she cant.

No one is calling for abortions at birth, all women want is the ability to have a safe abortion if they need it.

"No one is calling for abortions at birth"

You are mistaken. Abortions on request up until birth are freely available in Oregon. You can literally request an abortion the day before the baby is due.

The laws are similar, I believe, in New Mexico, Colorado, Minnesota, Michigan, Maryland, New Jersey and Vermont.

It didn't really eclipse Brexit though did it? What fun times the years from 2016 onwards have been.

So every single person that voted for him to ensure a win is unintelligent?🤣 ok then…

No, I didn't say every single person that voted for his is unintelligent, I said Americans are largely unintelligent. Some unintelligent people will have voted for Harris. The fact you can't extrapolate from a basic sentence isn't a sign of high intellect though.

Livelovebehappy · 06/11/2024 11:18

CatalinaLoo · 06/11/2024 08:31

It’s not an accusation. It’s a genuine question. And I’ll ask you the same question @Livelovebehappy ; Trump is a racist. That’s not an opinion - it’s fact. There are multiple examples of his racist language and actions. He’s also a misogynist. So - answer the question. What does it say about you that you support a racist and a misogynist?

Just because I support a party and their policies, I don’t have to agree with everything said by the candidate. If you’re a Harris supporter, do you agree with open borders, and that men should be allowed in womens’ sports, or that illegal immigrants can get free sex change treatment? To answer your question, I’m not racist, but not sure you will be satisfied as I’m absolutely against open borders, so guessing you will say that goes hand in hand with being racist….

DonnaBanana · 06/11/2024 11:18

The problem is Kamala Harris has had four years to prove she's any good at the job by being VP and what has she achieved? Even if you hate Trump and dislike the things he did, he can point to having done all sorts of things that his supporters like. What has Harris done for liberal voters? A Harris presidency would be four years of status quo and voters seem to want action.

SharpOpalNewt · 06/11/2024 11:19

I feel gaslit that he is even allowed to stand as a candidate in the US let alone actually become president, twice.

Putin will be very happy that his puppet was re-elected.

IMBCRound2 · 06/11/2024 10:15

I was way too emotional and now can’t edit or delete the post - teach me to write after a sleepless night crying!

Trump policies will result in the death of children . I just find it incredibly difficult to wrap my head around the idea that someone would vote to bring in policies that will end up with children dying. Refugees, war, climate change, poverty…

I'm not sure that some women care really after reading this thread.
Women are actually dying in the US due to the restrictive abortion laws Trump was responsible for. Real, dead women as a direct result of the last Trump presidency.
Can't say I've heard of anyone dying because a trans women beat them in a swimming race but, apparently, it's a much bigger concern.
If these women cared SO much about women and womens rights they wouldn't support/condone someone who is very open about how little he values women.
How is one able to reconcile such hypocrisy?

romatheroamer · 06/11/2024 11:19

Livelovebehappy · 06/11/2024 08:07

Come on, the majority of opinion on Trump is absolutely negative on all MN posts today…

Well I'm not going to go through all the thread but since your response I've read six positive or anti-negative comments in the next few posts.

blessedday · 06/11/2024 11:20

I am delighted by Trump's victory.

It's good news for women and girls everywhere that the most powerful politician in the world can say categorically what a woman is. Trump, Vance and co will not be afraid to stand up and state that a man cannot magically become a woman just by virtue of putting on a dress, a wig and a bit of lippy.

Trump's administration will also put a halt to the sterilisation and mutilation of children and the gender-woo ideology infiltrating schools. It's a good day for democracy and for women's rights.
