To be so disappointed in people - Trump voters especially

notsorighteousthesedays · 06/11/2024 06:43

I feel absolutely stunned that despite all that has been said and done Trump is likely to get the chance to make the world burn a little faster.

I am afraid for a future so full of anger and hate.

So who has won? Or has it not been decided yet? Sorry, I’ve always struggled with following/understanding politics 🙈

Thank god I don’t live over there .. I live here ..….

Where an abortion is a medical procedure not a moral judgment
Where healthcare (though shaky at times) is free at point of need
Where if I have a chronic illness I get my meds, and not worry if I can afford my next shot of insulin
Where gay marriage is legal, and celebrated
Where childhood diseases are limited due to great free vaccination programmes
Where judges are not political appointments
Where we have a political system that means there are 12 political parties, and 15 independent candidates that can take part in debates
Where school books aren’t banned for fear they turn our children gay

USA .. land of the free .. I think not

Agree, I will never take my family to America for a holiday. We do take things for granted in this country we have so good compared to other countries.

@thepariscrimefiles

Give me one example of a trans child being castrated by the Democrats.

If such cases existed you would condemn them, right?

The castration of a child, yes. But nobody is doing that.

Thanks for quoting twitter or x to support your point. Always a reliable source, that platform owned by Elon Musk. Renowned for its journalistic integrity it is.

I prefer the Independent myself

"After condemning the Iraq war and boasting about pardoning Dick Cheney’s then-chief of staff Scooter Libby, who was convicted on perjury charges in 2007, Trump lined up the former vice president’s daughter in his crosshairs.

“His daughter is a very dumb individual, very dumb. She’s a radical war hawk,” Trump said to some cheers.
“Let’s put her with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her. Let’s see how she feels about it. You know, when the guns are trained on her face.”

Did you watch the video?

He was saying it's OK for people who are in a safe country to be happy to send others to war, but if you were on the front line with 9 guns pointed at you, would you say the same?

Do you really not understand it?

@MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot how about we get involved if they actually come for us though ?

It's naive to think they're not already coming for us. We have:

  • Evidence of Russian interference in our voting system;
  • Multiple Russian cyberattack attempts on multiple UK systems;
  • Novichok nerve agent used on UK soil, causing the death and injury of UK citizens (even the UK's chief police officer at the time said he thought it could be construed as an act of war).

It doesn't have to be all out nuclear war. Modern warfare tactics are way more subtle than that - and far more sinister as a result. They're already coming for us, and they were even prior to the invasion of Ukraine.

Agree. Trump can be as wildly unfit for office as he likes but the Dems have to find the perfect candidate or it's their fault he wins?

No, they don't have to find the "perfect" candidate at all. They just needed to find a competent candidate.

Trump isn't a loyal Republican or even reflective of what the Republican Party used to stand for which is why so many senior Republican's are repelled by him.

But voting for chaos and turmoil will impact on the Republican party's future. Just like voting for Brexit has impacted on the Conservative Party here.

Trump is all about Trump. He couldn’t care less about being President in that he has no aspirational ideals for the country, he just wants everyone to tell him how great he is.

Now in some respects that could be good for the US as maybe the grown ups will take the lead in steering the good ship Trump, but equally if he gives jobs to the likes of RFK and let’s them instigate their crackpot ideas then hold on tight, it’s going to be a bumpy, and potentially deadly for some, ride.

So what did you think about what I actually said, can you put a number on how many women and girls have to be raped or assaulted, before you'd stand up and say something is wrong with putting men in female spaces?

Call me a Trump supporter all you like, I'm in the UK and have never even voted for the Conservatives.

People like you are why Trump has won.

Exactly. If by highlighting the dangers that women face by people who insist males can be women and have a right to be in their spaces and sports, that you automatically equate this with being a Trump supporter who ‘hates trans peepul’ it just makes one look thick as fuck.

So true. I feel that rich people are just in charge now. They can tell the rest of us how to think through social media. Everything is a war of conflicting opinions. Feels pointless to even try and fight it.

Would people who advocate for war still say the same if they were on the front line? He's not saying she should be lined up with guns pointing at her.

A bit hard to call right wing fascist voters anything but what they are, when you are brown and the person they are trying to deport..The riots after Southport brought that home to me.

As JD Vance succinctly put it " I love my wife Usha because she is a good mom, even though she is brown". When Trump won last time, my brown family in the US saw an absolute uptick of violence and " Go back to Mexico" threats.

Nice bit of misquotation/spin there.

Vance's actual words, found by me in a 10 second search on left-leaning fact checking site, Snopes, is as follows:

Kelly: You mentioned Usha. [News anchor] Joy Reid in that montage of media reactions I played, suggested that what your comments get to is that: the only valid version of America is a white woman who stays at home. That's your position according to her, you only value white stay-at-home moms.

Vance: That's just so disgusting Megyn. I love my wife so much. I love her because she's who she is. Obviously, she's not a white person, and we've been accused, attacked by some white supremacists over that. But I just, I love Usha. She's such a good mom. She's such a brilliant lawyer and I am so proud of her. But yes, her experiences have given me perspective in the way it's really hard for working families in this country.

They are from his interview with Megyn Kelly 3 months ago, which included a conversation about how strong and brilliant women have been his backbone throughout his life, from his grandmother and sister who helped raise him when his father was absent and his mother was an abusive addict giving him an horrific childhood, to his brilliant wife whom he met at Yale Law school (which he got into as a working class kid getting a scholarship via serving his country in the armed forces), and who taught him how to have a loving relationship and family of his own. He's talking about how his grandmother was as strong as nails, then says about Usha:

"Usha is more sophisticated [than his grandmother] in the ways of the world, but I think what unites them as one, they're very tough, two, they're incredibly protective of their families, three, they're very smart."

He then gushes about Usha having introduced him at a convention, and that she's a tough act to follow because she's so beautiful/smart/charming and that he wanted her to be herself in that address because he loves her and thinks the world will fall in love with her. He talks about how she rejected having a speechwriter, but wrote her own speech and said exactly what she wanted to say. And he was so proud of her.

He clearly sees he as so much more than merely "brown" and a "mom"

I recommend people listen to the latest TRIP Leading podcast, an interview with writer Michael Lewis (Moneyball, The Big Short, The Fifth Risk). He had an interesting take on why people support Trump.

This is an excerpt from the transcript:

ML “My take is that they don't actually think that he's going to solve their problems.

They've given up on their problems being solved, and what they want is their anger to be stoked. They want to feel that someone feels something like they feel. Very oddly, and this is why I think Trump is just like personally critical to this movement.

If that bullet had taken out Trump, I think they would not be someone who stepped in and replaced him and the movement would move on just the way it is.

AC: What has he got that nobody else has got?

A genuine anger, a genuine kind of psychopathic anger at the world that comes from a chip on his shoulder from the way he was raised by his dad, from being a second or third tier New York real estate guy who was looked down upon by the first tier ones, by the culture of New York in which he was raised, which sort of rewarded this sort of this.

AC: But you've also got to have talent. Surely, you've got to have talent to be able to weaponize that, mobilize that.

ML: The fact that he doesn't have talent sort of makes it easier for people to relate to him, I think. What you see as deficiencies, I think probably are great strengths with his audience. So he's sincere in some way.

Even when he's faking it, he's sincere. At some deep level, he feels all that awfulness and they like it. I think that they like that.”

https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/leading/id1665265193?i=1000675378702

This makes complete sense to me.

He somehow embodies the feelings of the disillusioned, marginalised, angry people who have long since given up on the American Dream. He is an angry, spitting, seething voice for all that they cannot express and even though they don't believe he will 'make America great again' - at least not for them - they feel comforted by having someone speak their rage for them.

He has a very crude way of speaking but the argument he was making is one that anti war liberals have made for decades especially during the Bush years.

It's a Trumpish take on asking politicians whether they would be willing to sacrifice themselves or their loved ones in wars started by others.

The castration of a child, yes. But nobody is doing that.

From CNN

https://edition.cnn.com/2023/08/23/health/gender-affirming-surgery-study/index.html

The study found that a fraction of gender-affirming surgeries – about 7% – were done on patients ages 12 to 18, but some experts think that number sounds high. Wright said the majority of these surgeries tended to be among 17- and 18-year-olds and were the less-invasive procedures like breast or chest procedures

There are children having healthy body parts removed in the USA.

I don't know how many castrations there v removal of healthy breasts but it is untrue to claim that no children are being mutilated.

Gender-affirming surgeries in US nearly tripled from 2016 to 2019, study finds | CNN

The number of gender-affirming surgeries done in the United States nearly tripled between 2016 and 2019, a new study shows.
