To be so disappointed in people - Trump voters especially

1000 replies

notsorighteousthesedays · 06/11/2024 06:43

I feel absolutely stunned that despite all that has been said and done Trump is likely to get the chance to make the world burn a little faster.

I am afraid for a future so full of anger and hate.

Gender dysphoria is not just due to chromosomes. It can be caused by hormonal exposure in the womb, and there is some good evidence that exposure endocrine disrupters in the environment as a foetus causes gender dysphoria. There may be a very good biological reason why the number of transgender people are on the rise…more endocrine disrupters. And not all transgender people have gender dysphoria.

When you say these men somehow believe they are women, it is pretty possible that they are experiencing something due to hormonal exposure.

How many sports places are being “taken” from girls? What is the percentage? I would think it is small. And many countries have unisex toilets. So what? Again, what are the odds a woman would be assaulted by a transgender woman in a public toilet?

What are the odds of trans identified people being murdered for being trans in the UK?

Very low but that doesn't stop tras from removing women's single sex spaces and representation.

Women who voted for Trump ☹️
Turkeys voting for Xmas

Yet it was a democratic woman who could have EASILY avoided Roe Vs Wade being overturned. Explain that one

rayofsunshine86 · 06/11/2024 10:24

I've seen lots of posters mistakenly state she's a black woman. She's not, she is Indian.

I think both candidates are numpties, so let's see how the next four years pans out.

What makes you think that Putin won’t stop there?

Why would he? He seized Crimea in 2014 and if he wins now he will go on to expand his messianic vision of Imperial Russia.

lifeturnsonadime · 06/11/2024 10:17

Gosh you're really anti woman aren't you?

The answer to how many men should be allowed cheat in women's sport and how many men should have access to vulnerable women in what ought to be single sex spaces is 0,

The answer to how many children should be able to mutilate their bodies is 0.

Women's sports and spaces should not be available to any subset of men, no matter what they believe themselves to be.

Edited

I would say the one who is anti woman is the one supporting the person who wants to eradicate female reproductive rights, and that sounds like you. Please continue to spout off these non issues that have no impact on your life while supporting policies that will ruin a lot of women's lives for the worse and keep talking about how other women are anti woman. Any woman who supported Trump is either vile or stupid, end of.

Brit in the US:

Over the past 10 years the liberal's have shut down friendly political debate. If you are not a Democrat you are automatically shot down as being a Nazi supporter. This obviously has upset a majority. However they have just kept quiet and nodded along to maintain friendships, saving their true views for the privacy of the voting booth.

You cannot win thoughts and minds by shouting them down and demonizing them.

Totally agree with this, it's very similar in the UK I feel

AnonymousBleep · 06/11/2024 10:24

It's not surprising that a country that doesn't believe women should have autonomy over their own bodies hasn't voted for a woman president. Let alone a woman president of colour.

It's still hugely disappointing though - not to mention really worrying with regard to the wars in the Middle East and Ukraine.

I recommend people listen to the latest TRIP Leading podcast, an interview with writer Michael Lewis (Moneyball, The Big Short, The Fifth Risk). He had an interesting take on why people support Trump.

This is an excerpt from the transcript:

ML “My take is that they don't actually think that he's going to solve their problems.

They've given up on their problems being solved, and what they want is their anger to be stoked. They want to feel that someone feels something like they feel. Very oddly, and this is why I think Trump is just like personally critical to this movement.

If that bullet had taken out Trump, I think they would not be someone who stepped in and replaced him and the movement would move on just the way it is.

AC: What has he got that nobody else has got?

A genuine anger, a genuine kind of psychopathic anger at the world that comes from a chip on his shoulder from the way he was raised by his dad, from being a second or third tier New York real estate guy who was looked down upon by the first tier ones, by the culture of New York in which he was raised, which sort of rewarded this sort of this.

AC: But you've also got to have talent. Surely, you've got to have talent to be able to weaponize that, mobilize that.

ML: The fact that he doesn't have talent sort of makes it easier for people to relate to him, I think. What you see as deficiencies, I think probably are great strengths with his audience. So he's sincere in some way.

Even when he's faking it, he's sincere. At some deep level, he feels all that awfulness and they like it. I think that they like that.”

That’s so interesting. I think he’s absolutely nailed it.

Democrats need to field better candidates.

And stop insulting the electorate

This is 2016 all over again - they just refused to listen to what people were telling them.

Exactly

Like so many with extreme positions the hard left never learn, so continue to be surprised by results like this when the sensible thing would have been to field a better candidate - and preferably while they still had time to do it

Though no Trump fan I'm just hoping he doesn't get shot, but what really offends me is the angst over so many black and hispanic people voting for him. It's almost as if the Democrats feel they have no minds of their own and are owed their votes, but then that's the arrogance involved ... the same ugliness which, unbelieveably, led Kamala to depart without even thanking her party workers

ilovedogsme · 06/11/2024 10:26

Riiiight. Because men being in spaces meant only for women aren't likely to affect....women?

Tell that to the poor women at the Edingburgh Rape Crisis Centre.

The US vacillates constantly between wanting to be the leader of the free world and in some cases actively undermining cooperation systems between other countries that might negate that ambition). And then getting quite upset that for some reason people expect them to be leader of the free world and retreating. We are in the retreating phase.

But the US cannot back down because that is exactly what China wants and that is why they have been supporting Russia. If Ukraine cannot win the war or the war continues indefinitely, China may risk invading Taiwan, which could be the beginning of World War III and no country can stay out of it.

GettingStuffed · 06/11/2024 10:27

What worries me more than Trump is that he'll not see out his term and then Vance will take over and that man is evil.

I'm confused that so many posters are calling America a racist misogynist country and that that is a factor in why Harris didn't win.

How can this be so? America has had a black female vice president and of the two people on the ticket to become the next president,, one of them was a black woman.

If the country hates women and blacks, how was this allowed to happen?

1 and 2) Biden put her in, she wasn’t elected. I think many can deal with a black woman being in the shadows as VP but President is too much.

He seems to have won the popular vote across all demographics so her race and gender can’t be the only reason.

How is Trump going to reduce the grocery bills?

Exactly, considering he's an idiot who has no understanding of basic economics. But but tariffs. Tariffs will only raise the prices for end consumers, price increases means higher inflation. If he wasn't a moron, advised by morons, he would know that.

This democrat = good, republican = bad cliche is exceedingly reductive and silly.

Was it a republican who significantly increased the use of drone strikes in countries like Pakistan, Yemen, and Somalia?

Was it a republican who had the moniker “Deporter in Chief” for their record number of deportations?

No, that was all OBAMA. The demi god we all expected to worship. Carry on believing everything the media tells you.

It’s scary how gullible and uninformed most people are.

Edited

Trump was responsible for more drone strikes than Obama (technically he removed the need for white house approval for strikes leading to a much less restricted approach). So its not a democrat/republican issue. besides which, I don't think you can categorise it as a Democrat hating on Republican issue because whether you like or not, Trump's party is not like the normal Republican party. So the discussion is very different.

Never mind me...

AlecTrevelyan006 · 06/11/2024 10:28

Western civilisation is based on (in the main) Greek & Roman societeal principles.

Democracy comes from the Greek Demos.

Popularism come from the Roman Populus.

Both mean the same thing. Of the people.

The commentators on TV & radio getting upset that the ‘wrong’ candidate has won exemplify the issue.

Much like the surprise of Brexit it turns out ‘the people’ don’t think like University graduates who work in the media.

We need both main political parties in this country & the US to start actually taking people’s views seriously and not rubbishing everything that doesn’t chime with their ‘progressive’ world view as ignorant, far-right, bigoted or wrong headed.

Not a fan of Boris, Farage or Trump, but they cut through because they don’t treat 50% of the electorate like your racist drunken uncle at a family wedding.

No one who pretends men can be women for political gain, which opens the door to rapists in women’s prisons and the medicalisation and sterilisation of healthy children, is fit to govern. End of.

I don't think anyone in the UK particularly thinks Democrat = good, Republican = bad. At best most people think Democrat = comparatively sane, Republican = batshit.

Lyannaa · 06/11/2024 10:30

What I have taken away from this, today is that the UK can no longer reasonably align ourselves with the US and call ourselves allies any more. And that's ok. The world has changed. What we do need to do is to sort out our relationships with the rest of Europe and to start thinking for ourselves.

The US is being influenced by people like Elon Musk, who don't believe in democracy and would like to see an elite in power, with little agency for 'ordinary' people. Money talks.

I think one very slight silver lining in all this is that this Trump victory will shut the conspiracy theorists up who think that the Illuminati conspired to steal the 2020 election.

hairbearbunches · 06/11/2024 10:31

@Another2Cats Oh come on, this really is ridiculous. Do you really think that he will try to overturn Article Two of the US Constitution?

It is only ridiculous to those who are not paying enough attention. He's just a figurehead, he's actually a moron who can be very easily manipulated because he worships money. The likes of Bezos and Musk would like nothing more than subvert democracy and they're the ones shoving money up his jacksie. He's already on record as saying to voters "vote for me this one time and you'll never have to vote again."

I find those words chilling. We have been here before and we are not learning the lessons of history. Populations have always sleepwalked their way to fascism. This time is no different.
