To be so disappointed in people - Trump voters especially

1000 replies

notsorighteousthesedays · 06/11/2024 06:43

I feel absolutely stunned that despite all that has been said and done Trump is likely to get the chance to make the world burn a little faster.

I am afraid for a future so full of anger and hate.

Over the past 10 years the liberal's have shut down friendly political debate. If you are not a Democrat you are automatically shot down as being a Nazi supporter.

Sounds familiar 🙄

Agreed. Very conflicting.

I always found the right's anti-choice abortion argument directly conflicts with their "small state" argument. How do they square that one?

Neither side is right on abortion. The UK and most other countries could more reasonably say they have it right - up to three months abortion by choice is permitted and after that (or thereabouts) abortion for medical reasons is permitted. In the US, the women calling for total body autonomy ie abortion at chioce right up to term is not reasonable either. R v W as it currently stands has made life very difficult and dangerous for women, there should be a reasonable sensible policy applying across the entire of the US, not left up to individual states. Something middle of the road is right. What I am not sure about is what Trump means by pro life, I thought he was supporting something along the lines of the UK.

Vance has spoken about the fact that he is from a broken home and I can't remember the details but it is long the lines of his mother having had to put up with very unreasonable behaviour from his father and he is supportive of his mother, and is aware of women's issues, and I am fairly sure he is in favour of balance re abortion ie similar to UK stance.

It will be interesting to see if people who vote against Kemi Badenoch at the next UK General Election will also be dismissed as racist morons.

Edited

She'll be long gone by then.

Willyoujustbequiet · 06/11/2024 09:24

It's quite simple really.

Americans prefer convicted rapists to women.

I don't believe that the US will never vote for a woman, I just think the standards for a female politician are much higher - whether in the US or even here in the UK.

I don't think it particularly fair but that's the way it is.

Harris couldn't make the grade. She is not presidential material. Try listening to her attempt to answer questions - it was painful.

People who think like you need to do some very rapid self reflection and understand why Trump has had the landslide victory he has. There is only so far "all Trump voters are racist idiots" will get you. The world has had enough of the Left's DEI wokeisms and it's human nature to want a strong leader (even with faults). Honestly the lack of understanding as to what is happening is reflective of the arrogance held by many on the Left. Either learn or be prepared to be very very shocked going forward.

Define 'Left DEI wokeism' 😂

RedToothBrush · 06/11/2024 09:19

I think there's two things here.

The US population has long been indoctrinated into believing any kind of even mild socialism is bad.

This is on top of the quality of life for Americans now being lower than their parents.

This can't be ignored.

I think you’re right. I remember studying US and U.K. politics side by side (some time ago now) and was shocked by how the US electorate worked just because it felt alienating to me at the time.

But I’ve not grown up in America and whilst it’s easy to think they’re similar (language, we consume their films/tv/music etc) you realise they’re really not. There is a cultural difference.

Obviously having the NHS and then Obama bringing in Obamacare for it to be dismantled by Trump - I couldn’t understand why everyone would be against supporting less well off with their health care - especially given their healthcare system (it must be frightening if you’re poor). There but for the grace of god go all of us. Who knows when we’ll need help? But maybe that’s just my upbringing. I’m not flush but I’m happy to pay my taxes for these things.

Their electorate do seem to view things in a different way.

Feelingathomenow · 06/11/2024 09:24

if you’re going to play that game, I’ll just broaden it out, are you normally such a bigot generalising about groups of millions of people?

Well hang on. You started the game by calling people racist.

Any augment that involves accusations of Nazis, racists, bigots and people being ignorant are just too decisive to find common ground. the key to this is finding out why he won. I agree that it was a protest vote more than a vote for him directly.

DrBlackbird · 06/11/2024 09:28

It is a very ominous day for woman’s reproductive rights. Reading the Trump supporters’ comments here. I’m speechless. Far right does not equate to common sense.

So it’s ok to call a whole nation stupid? I don’t think that it is. Some pathetic “it’s not about race it’s about national characteristics” claim is a pointless separation of concepts. That person is still a bigot. They hate Americans not just a specific race. Same thing in my book.

The thing is who we’re Americans actually going to vote for? The democrats are dangerous to women too. It’s just they do it in a more manipulative manner. Sometimes it’s better the devil you know

Soukmyfalafel · 06/11/2024 09:29

I'm not going to get into a debate over this, although it is disappointing.

But it is the same as here. Two separate poles attached to the same shit hole of a planet. You choose one or the other. People need to change. We elect them. We listen to bullshit and take it as the truth without checking the facts. The real truth is very wealthy people give us the illusion of choice and we don't demand more. Most humans are messy and stupid and will always put themselves and opinions first, rather than vote for what collectively benefits everyone. Until that changes nothing will really change and you will get this flip flopping in politics.

Then you have snake oil twats like Farage promise the Earth and happily destroy it if it makes him money and people fall for it. It is baffling. Why do people fall for this?

Having said above, don't know what the answer to this is either. The only thing I am convinced of is Russell T Davies is actually nostrdamus, since Years and Years seems to be bang on 😂

wowzelcat · 06/11/2024 09:30

SpudleyLass · 06/11/2024 09:06

And yet for the Democrats choosing to alienate women by dying on the hill of mutilating children and exposing women and girls to increased assaults in what should be single sex spaces, is that not stupid?

Ok, I’ll get flamed for this, but I am going to say this. Transgenderism in nature is a thing. Not a common thing, but a thing. Many species of slugs are hermaphroditic…you know how they mate…and maybe you’ve seen them hanging from trees with a ring of slime and two protuberances. These are their penises…yup they are both transgender, boy girl meets girl boy. They hit each other with their dicks, those protuberances you see to force the other to be the girl.

In humans, one in 15,000 males is born and grows up as a girl. And neither these girls nor their parents know it. These girls do not discover anything different until puberty. Girls born with XY chromosomes are genetically boys but for a variety of reasons – mutations in genes that determine sexual development – the male characteristics are never expressed. They live their lives as girls and then women, and a few can even give birth. But genetically they are male.

Morris syndrome is now called 46,XY DSD: androgen insensitivity syndrome. These people have an extremely high level of testosterone and other male sex hormones, but the testosterone does not affect the foetal cells that usually develop into male sexual organs because of a mutation in the androgen receptor gene. These people therefore have male chromosomes but are women socially and in external appearance. They do not have internal female sexual organs, and they form testicles that remain concealed in the abdominal cavity

There are people who have gender dysphoria as well. We think this has to do with the level of hormones they are exposed to as a foetus, particularly testosterone. There is also a genetic factor as indicated above. In XY animals, it has been shown that environmental endocrine disruptors, through their anti-androgenic activity, induce a female identity.

Not all transgender people have gender dysphoria. This is not hooey I am making up. You can go to the Mayo Clinic website and read about it.

here are some papers
https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/adult-health/in-depth/transgender-facts/art-20266812

This small percentage of people have been used as scapegoats and terrorised to reinforce traditional gender roles for political reasons, as a dog whistle for the right. Women’s rights in the USA are going to decrease sharply…they already have with the overturning of Roe v Wade due to a Trump nominated Supreme Court. And, fascistic states have promoted pronatalism historically.

Democrats need to field better candidates.

And stop insulting the electorate

This is 2016 all over again - they just refused to listen to what people were telling them.

The idea that the prospect of a female black president left many Americans feeling personally "insulted" only makes me feel more contemptuous of Trump voters.

Accusations of fascism, racism, bigotry, callousness etc if you admit to being a conservative. I give it extraordinary that anyone asks that question. Watch BBC or Channel 4 and discern the quiet contempt for right wing views. This is one of the reasons why polling often gives the wrong answer. People cba to deal with noisy, opinionated, hate filled liberals. It is so tiresome.

It depends what right wing views you’re talking about. Once again, politics is more nuanced than the lefty liberals and right wing. That is what it’s been dumbed down to by populism.

FancyRedRobin · 06/11/2024 09:30

There's a lesson in this for left wing parties worldwide. People need a positive future to work towards.
They need politicians to create this vision, that they can sign up to it. Just telling people the opposite parties are terrible, just does not cut it.
I've been disappointed how Labour in the UK are communicating in this respect.
Bold action for big issues is what people want.

MorrisZapp · 06/11/2024 09:30

From our UK sofas the worst aspect will simply be his existence on our television screens. I actually can't remember his last presidency, perhaps I've blocked it out. Can we just ignore him?

casepoint · 06/11/2024 07:04

I'm not a trump supporter, but isn't it best that we stay out of the Ukraine conflict now ? We are just asking for trouble by staying in it. I don't want to get nuked.

Even more reason now for the rest of the world to support Ukraine. Do you think Putin would stop there?

FfsBrian · 06/11/2024 09:30

It’s a protest vote - and we will likely have Farage as our next PM.

Democrats are our Labour. They will just not listen to the people who are voting. They think we are stupid & gullible.

Look at what’s been found out about Ed Milliband.

We will end up with a hard right government and I could see this years back.

Onley · 06/11/2024 09:31

But Trump didn’t destroy the world in his last term. The world has gone to shit during Biden - Putin and Hezbollah have taken advantage of a weak President.

It will be fine like it was last time

RBG (a democrat) could probably have saved Roe Vs Wade if she hadn’t been so self centred.

Harris did answer direct questions. She was never unpleasant or rude to the interviewers. Surely even you can agree that Trump was boorish, rude and insulting when being interviewed by people other than his own supporters e.g. Tucker Carlson?

I agree with this. We have friends and family in the states who have voted for trump. They aren't idiots, they've just had enough and there wasn't a better alternative.

There was an interesting piece on radio 4 last week looking at the way political parties ignore and talk down to poorer, less educated communities. You can't just dismiss a massive part of the population by calling them thick and racist, they still get a vote.

Might be because the woman and her followers couldn’t actually define one.

What she and her supporters do or don't do doesn't change the fact that he was found liable.

Please show me one case of an assault in a bathroom by a trans person? I can show you many cases of an assault ON a trans person. Also, children aren't just going off one day and getting gender reassignment surgery against their wills or their parent's wills, that notion is incredibly stupid and simple fear mongering. It sounds like you took some soundbite, no doubt from Trump, did no research whatsoever and decided that was going to be the hill you die on. Well, good luck with that, if that's how you go through life I pity you.

She honestly won’t. The fact that you can’t see that is half the problem. The UK is not racist. We are a bunch of people who want to elect a politician who talks about subjects directly with plain language. I think we HAVE to move on from politicians not answering the question because they are scared of the backlash. Keir is still falling over his words and not wanting to offend a tiny portion of the population. Whilst he stumbles and prevaricates he looks weak. He has to form some opinions and stick with them or he’ll lose the next election.
