To be so disappointed in people - Trump voters especially

notsorighteousthesedays · 06/11/2024 06:43

I feel absolutely stunned that despite all that has been said and done Trump is likely to get the chance to make the world burn a little faster.

I am afraid for a future so full of anger and hate.

Its not anger its fear.

That's what happens when you have daughters and see people want rapists in charge.

People who think like you need to do some very rapid self reflection and understand why Trump has had the landslide victory he has. There is only so far "all Trump voters are racist idiots" will get you. The world has had enough of the Left's DEI wokeisms and it's human nature to want a strong leader (even with faults). Honestly the lack of understanding as to what is happening is reflective of the arrogance held by many on the Left. Either learn or be prepared to be very very shocked going forward.

We know that you love the orange maniac and hate the Labour Government, but in the same way as we need to suck up the fact that Trump has won, you need to suck up the fact that Labour won here

Labour will be in for one term. They are deeply unpopular. The only reason Labour got in was we had an incumbent government that needed a shake up. Politics is becoming more right wing globally because people want borders and common sense politics. Until politicians recognise that we are going to get closer and closer to another world war.

Exactly- somewhat ironically diversity has actually driven people more apart as it’s concentrated on differences rather than similarities. It has driven tribalism. No amount of electric cars or recycling of yoghurt pots is going to counter over population, consumerism and the natural reaction of resource guarding.

I teach my kids to be kind, honest, fair.

Where are the leaders we can look up to?

We might not always have the same beliefs but we should be able to respect our leaders.

StMarieforme · 06/11/2024 09:21

I made 5 lovely friends in the USA earlier this year. One is a Turkish gay man who lives with his disabled partner. They all are rejoicing. I cannot get my head round it. Truly.

maydaymayday1 · 06/11/2024 06:55

Well it's young women I feel sorry for. They will be the victims in this.

And anyone who isn't an able bodied straight white male.

We would have voted Trump in our household.

We also voted conservative here.

It has becoming increasingly apparent that you are demonised for having any different view other than the left is best.

People are allowed to vote in their best interests.

Can you explain how citing Trump would be in the best interests of any woman, or any ordinary person?
Conservative is a bit different - they had made a mess but they aren't in any way as extreme as Trump and his team. I don't agree with people who voted Tory this time, but it's a choice I can begin to understand. Trump is not.
And in not being 'allowed' to disagree, Trump has made very serious threats against the life and liberty of people who disagree with him. Doesn't that worry you at all?

Thank you.

I'm autistic so probably catastrophising here. I see Trump's win as a signal that women really are second class citizens, in 2024! No matter what we do, we will always be perceived as second class. Like we're branded from birth. The injustice cuts deep.

She didn’t lose because she’s a woman. She lost because she was a rubbish VP and would have been a terrible president.

SilkyWoo · 06/11/2024 09:22

I’m over the moon! Trump all the way!

People can say "well, it's democracy, people can vote for who they want", and "this is what happens when the left shut down debate" ad infinitum. And they will. But when all is said and done, millions and millions of people have voted for a man accused of rape, accused of vile criminality and open and obvious hatred of homosexuals, people of colour, disabled people, a man who wants to strip women of their rights over their own bodies, a man who does not really see women as people at all. And voting for that kind of man to lead the most powerful nation on earth, who will make the world even more unstable and unsafe in every conceivable way, is unforgivable.

100% this.
All the justifications of WHY it happened cannot erase the fact that people chose this vile man. Justifying it doesn't wash away the stench of condonation and the complicity in what you know is coming, especially for women and minorities.

It is in the interests of those wishing for power, to keep a large part of the population ignorant and bigoted, in order to have an easy route for fanning their diiscontent and anger into flames at the whim and will of the powerful

This works best for authoritarian/conservative candidates and isn't confined to the US. You see it time and time again in the same rural, uneducated, poor regions. The ones who never seem to understand that they are voting against their own interests even when they are suffering the consequences. Those same regions where whole communities will vote for who their church leaders tell them is 'God's chosen' candidate. Which, in the US, was never going to be a black woman as I'm sure most people know but few will admit.
The first sign of any change in the status quo in those southern US states and it is gerrymandered right out of there.
The whole US voting system is inherently racist, and there is absolutely no political equity, yet the US clings to it with a passion that speaks volumes 🤷‍♀️

Yes those pesky vaginas get in the way of votes don't they!

No idea what you're talking about.

I was responding to OP but the same applies to you. Trump is not going to rape your daughters.

Maybe stop with the hysteria and hyperbole and stop stirring up stuff online.

It's done.

Lentilweaver · 06/11/2024 09:23

I think all parties need to focus on jobs and the economy. That is clearly what the majority care about. Kamala didnt talk enough about that. Or maybe I missed it.

Ghosttofu99 · 06/11/2024 09:23

After Brexit and Trump mark 1 I’m not surprised anymore.

"Any Trump voter who is not a straight white Christian man, deserves what's coming to them".

Shocking comment and underlines the point entirely. This attitude is why the left continue to lose support.

But it doesnt though - If you're not a WHITE MALE and you voted for Trump then who else do you have to blame?

Seriously, you voted for a CONVICTED CRIMINAL literally, how stupid are you?

SpudleyLass · 06/11/2024 09:22

No idea what you're talking about.

It's quite simple really.

Americans prefer convicted rapists to women.

Savemydrink · 06/11/2024 09:22

She wouldn't have been as bad as Liz Truss. Nothing like.

This isn't about race it's about national characteristics

if you’re going to play that game, I’ll just broaden it out, are you normally such a bigot generalising about groups of millions of people?

Willyoujustbequiet · 06/11/2024 09:24

Might be because the woman and her followers couldn’t actually define one.

Not as stupid as those who all assume everybody talking about USpolitics mist be American.

To quote Biden "If you don't vote for me, you're not really black".

That is the attitude that I'm talking about.

herecomesautumn · 06/11/2024 09:26

Ytcsghisn · 06/11/2024 07:22

Awwww, how sweet. You’re disappointed. Why don’t you lecture them about woke virtues and climate change. Then tell them how stupid they are for voting for Trump. That’ll teach ‘em.

It’s this kind of ‘oh aren’t they stupid and aren’t we the enlightened ones’ attitude that makes people actively vote for Trump.

Well if that's their reason, then they're even more stupid.

youheard · 06/11/2024 09:26

Feelingathomenow · 06/11/2024 09:24

I said Americans are largely stupid, greedy and unprogressive - largely because obviously not very many of them. I stand by that and this vote has proved it definitively, not that I love by any means everythign about the Democrats.

No hyperbole. Just fact.
