To be so disappointed in people - Trump voters especially

notsorighteousthesedays · 06/11/2024 06:43

I feel absolutely stunned that despite all that has been said and done Trump is likely to get the chance to make the world burn a little faster.

I am afraid for a future so full of anger and hate.

What nonsense. Believe this if you will. A lot of women have voted for Trump. Are they all stupid. No I don't think they are.

Looks like internal misogyny to me.

Your post is amusing since it absolutely highlights the issue with left wingers. You make no attempt to address the substantive issues raised about why US voters are unhappy instead you use extreme language. Then you launch into a self-congratulatory rant about how virtuous the left is wanting world peace and an end to world hunger as though simply by dint of wanting good things your argument is obviously right. I am guessing you are comfortably off and many issues to do with wages, housing, availability of services, etc are not ones that directly affect you.

I am poor and I agree with her full stop. Trump in power last gave tax breaks for the rich and the poor didn't do as well as they thought. Also immigration helped America grow their construction etc is booming they rely on it. It's not the immigrants it's the posh bastards in the uk that don't level up areas like the last 14 years of tory gov

Democrats need to field better candidates.

And stop insulting the electorate

This is 2016 all over again - they just refused to listen to what people were telling them.

Yes those pesky vaginas get in the way of votes don't they!

She should have also included Hungary and Belarus.

No normal European democracies will be happy with this outcome.

We know that you love the orange maniac and hate the Labour Government, but in the same way as we need to suck up the fact that Trump has won, you need to suck up the fact that Labour won here.

Amen

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 06/11/2024 09:11

I think as usual America threw up two awful candidates and one of the awful candidates got in.

Disgusting of Thonberry to say that only N Korea and Moscow are happy.

Pretty accurate though tbf

And yet for the Democrats choosing to alienate women by dying on the hill of mutilating children and exposing women and girls to increased assaults in what should be single sex spaces, is that not stupid?

Please show me one case of an assault in a bathroom by a trans person? I can show you many cases of an assault ON a trans person. Also, children aren't just going off one day and getting gender reassignment surgery against their wills or their parent's wills, that notion is incredibly stupid and simple fear mongering. It sounds like you took some soundbite, no doubt from Trump, did no research whatsoever and decided that was going to be the hill you die on. Well, good luck with that, if that's how you go through life I pity you.

SimpleSnarf · 06/11/2024 09:13

He was always going to win.
The propaganda machine has won, in both America and across Europe - they’ve even convinced people the media is liberal and biased against ‘the right’ even though they own it…and that Elon Musk invented the stuff he simply bought 😂😂😂

Though, it has to be said, America’s ‘Left Wing’ is comparable only to a right side wing, flapping rightly, in the right direction at a right angle - that’s about how left it is 😂😂😂

Without RTFT

This is hugely down to the arrogance of Joe Biden leaving it so late to hand in the towel to someone that in their hearts the Democrats knew couldn't win, and until she became the candidate were roundly slagging off. You have to pitch a white, middle-aged man against Trump. This is not a time for diversity candidates no matter how fabulous they may be - and Harris wasn't that fabulous. Americans are (largely) stupid, greedy and unprogressive and you have to give them a candidate that this lump can accept.

Feelingathomenow · 06/11/2024 09:14

Unfortunately, the democrats have drunk so much woke Kool-aid that they will struggle to get the common vote. They are tied into things most people know are fake.

Human nature will take authenticity over fakeness most of the time even if it’s authentically terrible.

Deep down people know the world is fucked so we are down to resource protection - Trump played that card.

Yep, why would anybody else be happy? Even if you agree with his policies he's an unhinged, thin skinned narcissist and an absolute moron. Not exactly someone you want to have to deal with as a world leader.

Labour will be in for one term. They are deeply unpopular. The only reason Labour got in was we had an incumbent government that needed a shake up. Politics is becoming more right wing globally because people want borders and common sense politics. Until politicians recognise that we are going to get closer and closer to another world war.

I'd take awful over rapist any day of the week.

I guess comments like yours show what people really think of women.

What a ridiculous comment. It does matter how good a candidate is regardless of their sex. The democrats ran a crap campaign and switched their geriatric candidate midway. The election was theirs to lose and they lost it. They can’t expect success just because their candidate is a woman (just as they shouldn’t suffer defeat for this reason).

Protest voting against Harris because of Gaza is literally out of the frying pan and into the fire.

'The failure to try and understand why people are voting Trump will be the downfall of the left'- Exactly.

It's a protest vote. People are unhappy. They are struggling financially. They hate the establishment and Trump cleverly portrays himself as anti establishment (obviously that isn't true). They don't want to vote for the same thing.
This happened when Trump was voted in before and with Brexit here. Labour were also an anti Tory vote rather than a pro Labour vote. They will be out next time.

I agree with this.
Also Biden was so clearly unfit to run, yet they let him get partway through. A elderly man, with clear signs of both Parkinson’s and cognitive decline, it was bizarre that he was in office at all. The democrats seem to suffer from the same failing that Labour have here, that they are so convinced of their righteousness that they think everything they do is automatically the right thing, and ridicule people who don’t agree.

They are lemmings and have jumped off the cliff.

Unfortunately they may take the rest of us with them.

You cannot win thoughts and minds by shouting them down and demonizing them.

Trump’s managed it.

It is more than depressing.
It is frightening.
Biden's selfish initial determination to run for a second term jinxed the chances of a Democratic win.

Edited

This. Profoundly depressed and worried for the rest of the world about this result (and also just can't bear to see his odious orange face everywhere).

I heard someone say the other day that VP don’t have a brief, they are there for one reason only, to step over the Presidents dead body.

And yes, if Biden and his advisors had read the signs about his health and not ignored them, planned his exit , and taken time to find the best candidate and VP candidate ( which might or might not have been Kamala, who let’s face it got handed the shitty end of the stick) then the Democrats would have had a good shot at winning. I think Kamala has done better than many thought she would under the circumstances, but the failure of the campaign lies more at the Biden camp’s door than hers. We can only hope that the Democrats spend the next three years before the next declaration finding, supporting and training up a decent candidate, male or female, black or white.

Then if there is still an America left there will be a chance for its people to have a President deserving of the title.

Well, considering that the next Presidential Primaries are about 9 months before the 2028 election, there’s no chance of training up the next leader in the meantime. We can expect a bunfight for the leadership role in early 2028.

Backwoods57 · 06/11/2024 07:02

Brit in the US:

Over the past 10 years the liberal's have shut down friendly political debate. If you are not a Democrat you are automatically shot down as being a Nazi supporter. This obviously has upset a majority. However they have just kept quiet and nodded along to maintain friendships, saving their true views for the privacy of the voting booth.

You cannot win thoughts and minds by shouting them down and demonizing them.

This.

RedToothBrush · 06/11/2024 09:19

teaandcakeanyone · 06/11/2024 08:47

I’ve read a lot on here about the belief that Democrats have shut down the conversation and going with a ‘the people who vote Trump are just wrong’ alienates these voters.

Hmmm. I am genuinely trying to understand this. Not sure I could ever choose to vote based on that when Trump is the option.

I’d get that argument if the republican candidate was a half decent human being.

I read about typically Democratic voters not voting Democrat because of Gaza - they didn’t feel they morally could and were putting their vote to other parties/independent or simply opting not to vote. I get voting with your morals.

For this reason I simply don’t understand how you can vote for that man if you have any morals. So I’m more frightened by the self centred voting - nothing seems to be about the greater good.

Does the thinking go like this…

Let the world burn, I just want cheaper fuel.

Let him rape women, as long as it’s not me.

Let him flout the rule of law, it doesn’t really apply to him.

Let him put the state in charge of women’s bodies, and just hope I never need to worry about it for myself/sister/daughter

Let him get into bed with Putin to just boost his own ego (doesn’t even realise he’s being played by Putin), oh and it can affect other countries because it’s far away, and I’ll just hope it doesn’t affect home security

But at least I believe I’ll have more money?????

Whatever the policies were of either candidate, the character of the candidate should matter. It seems to have been lost.

I just see a vile man of few good character traits (if any) just be given the power to press a nuclear button if someone annoys him. He behaves like a child so much of the time. And now there are signs of rambling senility. This is a worrying time for the world. It feels a dark time.

I think there's two things here.

The US population has long been indoctrinated into believing any kind of even mild socialism is bad.

This is on top of the quality of life for Americans now being lower than their parents.

This can't be ignored.

Completely agree - Trump will support a scrotched earth policy in Gaza. Where will those poor people go?
