To be so disappointed in people - Trump voters especially

notsorighteousthesedays · 06/11/2024 06:43

I feel absolutely stunned that despite all that has been said and done Trump is likely to get the chance to make the world burn a little faster.

I am afraid for a future so full of anger and hate.

Massive turned out to vote so hardly indifference or winning because people did not vote. They did and chosen Trump.

Thank you.

I'm autistic so probably catastrophising here. I see Trump's win as a signal that women really are second class citizens, in 2024! No matter what we do, we will always be perceived as second class. Like we're branded from birth. The injustice cuts deep.

But the Democrats are also awful on women's rights. Look how Biden dismantled women's sports.

Neither side was good for women.

It speaks volumes about the majority of Americans. Racist, homophobic, misogynistic bigots-using the label of Christianity to excuse their beliefs.
Voting in trump, willingly, is like us voting in Tommy Robinson and Mr Bean

British here.

You don't speak for me - the majority of Americans are not racist, sexist or homophobic.

It's not only 'them'

What happens in America affects the rest of the world

And I do fear for democracy with him in power assisted by Elon Musk <shudder>

I wanted to cry this morning

I did cry when I watched Trump’s speech this morning.

Brit in the US:

Over the past 10 years the liberal's have shut down friendly political debate. If you are not a Democrat you are automatically shot down as being a Nazi supporter. This obviously has upset a majority. However they have just kept quiet and nodded along to maintain friendships, saving their true views for the privacy of the voting booth.

You cannot win thoughts and minds by shouting them down and demonizing them.

Really? This has been the case on both sides of the debate. It's just the nature of vitriolic politics in the US. I'm not sure where you get the idea that Trump supporters are all about friendly political debate and the Democrats aren't!

Do not try and kid yourself that Trump supporters are somehow the 'better' people in this and don't demonize the left.. that is so far from the truth it's laughable.

Really feel for women who care about their bodily autonomy. Will abortion be banned in its entirety?

JRSKSSBH · 06/11/2024 08:54

Butchyrestingface · 06/11/2024 08:45

It would have been unsurprising if she’d lost to anyone other than a glow-in-the-dark, rapist, convicted felon. I think some people are understandably a bit surprised by that.

I’m only surprised the Democrats didn’t learn anything from 2016 and decided to field a woman again. Bad move. Women can’t win in America. If the Dems want to run a woman again, wait until the Republicans do it.

Or field a woman who can describe her policies in detail and answer a question, clearly and simply. She lost in part because she came across as drunk or a bit thick on many occasions - word salad sums it up. Miserable voters who can’t afford a frozen chicken (price has doubled) don’t give a shit about trans rights. You can’t win an election on a single issue (abortion) and waltz into the White House if voters don’t trust you to improve their lives materially.

Beekeepingmum · 06/11/2024 08:54

No. Trump has said that he'll leave it for individual states to decide their own rules on it.

andIsaid · 06/11/2024 08:50

SO true.

Every. Time.

So many people are politically homeless there and they protest vote.

But this sweep is unbelievable.

I would be good if convicted criminals weren't allowed to stand though

Couldn't the Republicans have done better too? They've had decent men leading before

motheronthedancefloor · 06/11/2024 08:55

this is conflicting for women's rights.

On the one hand, the right believe women don't have penises but on the other, disagree with abortion, even in cases of rape or incest.

Shakeoffyourchains · 06/11/2024 08:21

I am absolutely sick of this rhetoric. The left are not to blame for anything.

Wanting a more equal society, where everyone, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, nationality and status is treated fairly is not woke. Wanting to ensure the planet and all it's inhabitants aren't exploited and decimated for the benefit of a few isn't woke. Both of those should be everyone's aim, yet here we are pursuing isolationism, xenophobia, bigotry, racism and elitism at the behest of rich, elitist men.

The left, here and abroad, have tried to explain time and time again why the issues working class natives face are not the fault of the equally downtrodden and working class migrant, but they don't want to hear it. Far easier to blame an asylum seeker for "getting all our money" than to accept that the elitist man they voted for lied.

If they don't want to listen to reason because they're wedded to the idea that "elitist man has my best interests at heart" despite all evidence to the contrary then that's on them, not the left.

Thanks for this post, I completely agree.

rainingsnoring · 06/11/2024 08:56

RoseAndRose · 06/11/2024 08:42

The Labour win here was a protest vote too.

There was none of the sense of support and optimism of 1997.

That's why the government is pretty damned unpopular already

I agree with you and suggested this in the initial post.

JeremiahBullfrog · 06/11/2024 08:56

Trump is a moral monster. That means the Democrats really should think properly about why so many people would still prefer him over them. (They should have been thinking about this for 8 years, but apparently haven't.)

US politics is all about posturing though. It's not clear what policies Trump actually wants to enact and even less clear he will actually be able to enact them. Part of the Democrats' problem is no doubt that they have spent 4 years doing nothing, but that's mostly just a feature of the American system. However, Trump will not necessarily reflect the system ...

Calling Trump "fascist" probably hasn't helped. Lazy Nazi analogues (which the right loves to make about leftists too) are unhelpful and just get in the way of nuanced analysis of all the bad things about Trump and his movement - some of which resemble Hitler and Mussolini, but actually many don't.

teaandcakeanyone · 06/11/2024 08:56

Shakeoffyourchains · 06/11/2024 08:49

Ofcom aren't planning on shutting down GB News, they're holding them to account when they breach the agreed regulatory standards and placing sanctions on them for doing so. Musk has banned many people from X, particularly journalists who he doesn't like, but as a private forum that's his prerogative, as it was when the platform was more left leaning.

Honestly, the victim mentality of the establishment right, is something to behold. The fact they've managed to convince people that "free speech" means "free to say whatever you want, as long as you agree with me, and any sort of challenge is shutting down debate" is one of the greatest pieces of manipulation we've ever seen.

Could not agree more

Well there was always a 50/50 chance trump would win from the outset and a white male v black female in a nation that is still widely and openly racist sexist and misogynistic in large swathes of the country it’s was always odds on for the white male - the US is a completely different beast to the UK there’s little in the way of ‘moderate views’ and they are fervent in their core beliefs.

Yep

Swivelhead · 06/11/2024 08:56

Where were the Democrats' concerns for women's rights when they spent Trump's last term obsessing reposting very old pictures of his wife, slut-shaming her incessantly? So liberal, so ethical.

She must be a very strong woman to be able to endure this again.

What nonsense. Believe this if you will. A lot of women have voted for Trump. Are they all stupid. No I don't think they are.

"if he has won, this will be the last election in the US for a good long while. Think on that."

Oh come on, this really is ridiculous. Do you really think that he will try to overturn Article Two of the US Constitution?

It's this level of hyperbole that lead many people to disregard what more moderate people on the left are saying.

He is on record saying exactly that.

Another2Cats · 06/11/2024 08:58

nokidshere · 06/11/2024 07:48

Sorry if I'm being thick, I'm assuming, since he hasn't yet got the magic 270, the premise is that she can't win now even if she gets all remaining states?

There are still seven states to be called. One of those, Alaska, is almost certain to go to Trump which will give him 269 votes - one short.

That means that Kamala Harris must win all other six states. If Trump wins even one of those six then he wins.

Trump is currently ahead in four of those states and Harris is ahead in two of them.

rainingsnoring · 06/11/2024 08:58

HebburnPokemon · 06/11/2024 08:45

They were better off economically with Trump?

No but things have definitely got even worse in the last 4 years.
My own opinion is that the great majority of the population in the US and UK has been totally and utterly let down by their political leaders for decades.

Well judging by women in lines being interviewed before rallies that I watched on YouTube I wouls say many are yes. The answers mostly conspiracy stuff or stuff that isn't factual. They drank tye kool aid of what trump had suggested yet when given facts they were not buying actual facts

I'm not a trump supporter, but isn't it best that we stay out of the Ukraine conflict now ? We are just asking for trouble by staying in it. I don't want to get nuked.

I fear we are more likely to get nuked if Putin goes unopposed. He is not the type to say ‘well I wanted x and got x so I will stop now’. His greed for power is endless.

AnnoyedAsAllHeck · 06/11/2024 09:00

NewstartOct2024 · 06/11/2024 07:42

It was Trump supporters that stormed the capital. They won so no need for violence now. They were preparing for trouble if he lost though.

I think the "summer of love 2020" proved quite well that the Democrats are well-equipped to commit unspeakable violence. There has been nothing to compare to the violence, destruction, loss of life, injury to LEO, loss of businesses and arson committed during those months. No matter how much the liberals want us all to forget, we will not.

Did not want either candidate in office, but this constant pandering of "liberals good", "conservatives bad" is exactly why we are in this deep-assed shit.
